Cain City was founded as one of the stops along the Fredericksburg and Great Northern Railway. It was a thriving town and until just about 30 years ago part of the old bank was still standing just a short distance from Hill Cottage.

Located only a few miles from Fredericksburg this delightful quaint, little cottage boasts phenomenal views. The yard has a wonderful array of birds. The outside patio has comfy chairs and charcoal grill and is ideal for watching our feathered friends, rabbits, deer, and all the other nature so abundant to the area.

The Adam's family built Hill Cottage in 1912, and also were founders of Cain City. Pine floors, pristine white trim, fluffy white lace curtains, and rich rose walls enhance the playful mix of patterns in the floral sofa and plaid armchair creating a warm and inviting glow in the living room. Enjoy the Direct TV with DVD player. Two bedrooms (both with queen-size beds) are found on both sides of the bath. Comfy reading chairs are found in both bedrooms along with antique dressers and chests. The bath has a claw foot tub with shower.

A completely equipped country kitchen has a range/oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. The adjacent dining room has a table for four and antique china cabinet. Windows are conveniently arranged to enjoy the countryside views. The large patio and screened-in porch both have comfy chairs to sit and relax. Broadway Cottage is next door and also sleeps four—makes a perfect getaway for eight people.

The house was in a great location to Main Street in Fredericksburg to Luckenbach. Great view of the hills, Cute older farmhouse. Few minor things wrong. The tub had hair in it, toilet could use a pumice stone scrubbing.Understanding this is an old house. Overall had a peaceful weekend.

Very cute house with spacious back yard! The house is very comforting and had cute little decorative rooms. It would be a cute place for a girls trip! I enjoyed my stay and the host were responsive.

Enjoyed this old, antique house..but it needs some tender loving attention, a good cleaning. And it would be nice to have a TV in the room

The house was secluded enough to be relaxing and peaceful but close to Fredericksburg’s main attractions. It could have used a bit more tidying before our arrival. There was food from the previous tenant left in the fridge and dead crickets in one of the rooms along with a dead scorpion behind the door. The rest of the house was quaint and what would be expected of an old ‘farmhouse’.

Plus side - this place was very cozy and quiet. Downfalls - the coffee pot was dirty and the coffee and creamer were very much expired. This is the first bnb we have stayed in that didn't provide coffee, water bottles, or something quick for breakfast, such as granola bars or oatmeal packets.

Loved the location. Comfortable beds, furnished well. Kitchen was well equipped. The bathtub and floor are dangerous. Unstable, slippery, and no handrails. One of our party could not safely use it.

I don’t know where to begin. Obviously the photos of this house are quite old. The ripped screen at the entry door where we were to get the key was the first clue. Refrigerator door handle was filthy, rugs had not been vacuumed either. Of the 4 exterior doors, only two had deadbolt locks on them, so we never felt safe. The sofa looked like someone just woke up from sleeping on it with the throw piled in a heap on it, so we never sat on any of the furniture except for the wooden chairs in the dining room. The curtain was falling down from the window behind the sofa. The toilet had so much Lyme deposit, it didn’t look sanitary, and the seat was broken. The shower curtains had a significant build up of soap scum on them so we never used the shower. All drains were caked with Lyme deposits, in clouding kitchen sink. Then we checked our bed sheets, and discovered human and animal hair in between the sheets, both pubic hairs and long hairs. We slept on top of them. We thought we might sit on the nice rocking chairs on the front porch, but they had not been cleaned all winter, so we couldn’t sit there either. Needless to say, we could not get out of there fast enough. I do not know where all the positive reviews came from, but they clearly didn’t stay there this year. I asked the manager for a refund as soon as I saw the condition of the house, and they agreed to refund only the $25 cleaning fee. Avoid this place like the plague! And watch your little ones…decon mouse traps.
