Taos, New Mexico
High Mesa Cottage is located on a 1.1 acre lot about fifteen minutes from the ski area and ten minutes from Taos Plaza. The house was built in 2004 on a mesa about five hundred feet above the town of Taos, and offers stunning 360 degree views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Rio Grande Valley. No house in the area has better views of New Mexico's highest peaks and O'Keefe's much-painted Cerro Pedernal. No highway noise can be heard on this quiet lane as it is surrounded by open space, horse properties, and just a few other houses. Not many surrounding lights make ideal conditions for viewing the night sky on the deck or from the private hot tub located just outside. A high-speed wireless broadband internet connection is present allowing guests to keep in touch with the rest of the world.
Inside, the house has a modern, open floor plan with a large kitchen opening up to dining and living areas with 12 foot viga ceilings. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops, and high-quality cookware and utensils. The living room has an adobe kiva fireplace as well as an entertainment center with satellite TV, bluetooth stereo, and DVD. Radiant heated floors throughout the house make walking barefoot a pleasure. The house features numerous custom touches such as limestone windowsills, skylights and ceiling fans in each bedroom.
The master suite consists of a large bedroom with king-size bed, five-piece bath, and large walk-in closet, along with a satellite TV. The other two bedrooms have queen beds, large closets, and mountain views. The second bathroom and bedroom are at the opposite end of a long hallway from the master suite to allow for privacy. The third bedroom is off the living area with french doors and shades for privacy.
Once here, we are convinced you will agree that this is a very special location and will want to return. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Please take a look and call or email for more information.

This is our second trip to High Mesa Cottage. We were so excited to find available dates to stay. As before, the hosts and facilities were out of this world. Everything was spot on as promised. The scenery is great. It was peaceful and quiet. We will definitely return every chance we have.
Loved the views from every room of the house. Bed in the master bedroom was comfy. Kitchen has everything you need, although paper towels ran out & no replacement. Plenty of cloth towels though. If you’re a coffee drinker you might want to bring some. Looked like there must of been coffee before they ran out. These however are small annoyances compared to everything else provided. The home is beautiful and at the same time homey. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
I have rented a number of VRBO properties in Taos and liked each one, but the High Mesa Cottage has been our absolute favorite. The Good Stuff includes: the house is very well kept. EVERYTHING worked, great water pressure, comfy beds, TV that made sense, kitchen filled with loads of equipment and cooking utensils, quiet setting, beautiful scenery, and the yard...let me wax poetic on the yard. I think it is at least a half acre, maybe more, completely fenced. As happy as we were about the house, my dog Jenkins was even happier about the yard. Seen a dog smile before? Jenkins never stopped. The house has a smaller private patio garden with several seating areas- we spent lots of time enjoying the beautiful Taos weather as we chatted and had coffee. Jenkins were there, too, and yes- he was smiling. We had a full-sized truck, trailer and motorcycles and the driveway was accommodating and easy to maneuver. The location was good for us- in Arroyo Seco just a few short miles from the plaza and shops of Taos proper. If you are looking to be right in the middle of the shopping and traffic, this place will not be your first choice, but otherwise, it should be. Oh, and one other thing- I have rented probably 25 VRBO-type homes over the years and this is the FIRST TIME an owner called me to make certain I had received an email she sent about check in. The owners really care about their property and the folks who are staying there, and that absolutely SHOWS in this property!
This property is as described. The location was perfect for us. We do not like being right in town - just close enough to enjoy the amenities. Great views and very comfy.
I love the fall in the mountains with the aspen’s turning color. My son fished, my wife and daughter shopped and my sister and I went sightseeing in Red River and the Valley of the Utes.
Always love staying here! Everything was perfect with the exception of the following: spiders, centipedes and crickets and the dishes weren’t very clean..,other than that, it was perfect!! Thank you! (Home Defense will resolve the critter problem in the High Desert).
Enjoyed our stay very much. Quiet and peaceful location, but not far from activities in Taos & Red River. Communication with Ellen was great. Highly recommended!
We will do it again!
This house was all we could have asked for and more. We enjoyed every minute- a great layout, the views were great and the amenities were awesome.A really comfortable and scenic place! Thank you so much for offering it to us.
Wonderful stay. Everything was provided and worked. Perfect place to cuddle and relax after skiing. Favorite part was watching the sun rise and set over the mountains. Even had a deer come by for a visit. Would love to plan another visit here, location was in the middle of everything we wanted to experience.
