It was a nice memorable stay.Beautiful home in a great location
Property was 3 miles away from advertised location. This was explained as “VRBO glitch,” but I don’t see evidence that it’s been corrected. It’s a lovely house with lots of little things that don’t work, mostly at a nuisance level (non-functioning, deadbolt, lights out, wrong Wi-Fi password) I give Dylan a lot of credit for responding quickly to questions, but sometimes his responses were to just repeat instructions that hadn’t worked the first time. One thing that really does need some attention is the heat. It’s a wall-mounted propane heater, which has to be lit with a quirky Piezo, electric, pushbutton lighter that doesn’t work all the time. when it doesn’t work, there’s a strong smell of gas. It’s only an issue in the heating season, but it seems like a safety issue. We just piled on the blankets and put up with low temperature . The rooms have individual fan/air conditioner units, which are billed as heaters but, so far as I can tell, are not. The small space heater in the bathroom worked well. on the positive side, there’s a lovely kitchen, and beautiful, shiny hardwood floors. The bathroom is very nice too. There is no fold out bed or futon in the living room, but couch cushions on the floor worked just fine for us.
The back of unit is an apartment complex. That was used to store piles of garbage bags, the abundant parking was really parking for the tenants in the rear apartments, who came and went as they should but it made sleeping a challenge. The unit has an interior gas heater with no external vent so the CO2 was a concern to me. Owners had inefficient electric heaters but it was historically cold in LA the weekend of my visit. We were cold the whole time. Not sure non vented gas heater would pass any house inspection. The house was not ready at 3:00 and the guy who cleaned the unit left water bottles out front, the front door dead bolt was installed upsidedown, the place smelled like strong chemical from a plug in air freshener. The wood floors were trashed, the tiles chipped and missing in the bathroom, the bathroom window broken most of the mini blinds were broken, any light fixture with more than one bulb like the chandelier had just a few bulbs in it, the tv wasn't connected to any service and the controller seemed not to work. The kitchen table seats had food left over from a previous tenant on them. It is located next to a club and hooka bar that was loud at night on Friday and Saturday nights. And I was forced to either put down a $1,500.00 deposit or buy $49.99 insurance. I was not impressed. And yes, I took pictures.
It was overall a good experience. It has a great location. Within minutes to local grocery store, restaurant and universal studios. All the supplies in the house were just perfect. We only had issues with one sofa sleeping bed. But we managed it well. Overall good place for stay for a family.
