In the garage you will find a complete bike workshop with an 8-bike floor rack. We have a bike stand, air compressor and a selection of bike specific tools. Tune up your bike as needed, or do more extensive work if you wish. The tools and space are yours to use during your visit. The garage has plenty of space for secure bike storage, and you can park one car inside.
This charming 1965 mountain retreat is your perfect home base for exploring DuPont State Forest and the surrounding area. The single-level layout is comfortable and convenient, with three of the four bedrooms having an attached bathroom. There is plenty of space at the large dining table for groups, and the screened front porch is a relaxing place to unwind and enjoy the peaceful wooded setting.
In the den you will find a 55" 4K TV with Direct TV. While we have high speed DSL internet, 700-800mbps, streaming is not always reliable.
The house is surrounded by large trees and has a magically mossy backyard. The neighbors are friendly, especially Neighbor Bill, but very private. Do not trespass on their properties. If you are lucky, you’ll meet Bill. Just be on the right side of the fence. And that fence is his, so no hanging anything on it.
While we cater to mountain bikers, all are welcome. The trails are equally suitable for hiking and equestrian use, and you will find a lot of enjoyment as you explore DuPont's many attractions, including waterfalls made famous in the Hunger Games. Other nearby attractions include the Holmes Educational State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, and Gorges State Park. We are located right between Brevard and Hendersonville, both known for outdoor festivals, shopping, breweries and restaurants. Biltmore Estate is an easy day trip and well worth a visit. Also be sure to check out Asheville while you are here for its unique combination of culture, attractions, music and breweries.
Please note that DuPont does not allow e-bikes, including pedal assist, on the trails. Trails are for multiple use, so please be considerate of hikers, equestrians, and other riders. All bathrooms are attached to bedrooms so keep this in mind if you are planning to sleep in the King bedroom.
We are so excited to host your visit! The Pete Key Properties team welcomes you and is here to help create a memorable experience. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or need anything at all. We hope you enjoy your stay at Happy Shack Mountain Biker's Retreat!

Overall we had a great time in the Happy Shack! Incredible location next to some great trails! Only things missing from the house were cereal bowls and a toaster! Thanks for making our weekend adventure so great!
There was slight confusion over the listing, which the property manager cleared up for us in a timely manner. We enjoyed the secluded nature and the screened in front porch. The house was a little dated, and two of the bedrooms without ceiling fans got a little warm at night. Having a good washing machine and dryer setup was awesome after hiking and competing in a muddy obstacle race.
