Eagle River, Wisconsin
We love the open floor plan of the kitchen / dining / living room. The house is approximately 1400 square feet all on one convenient level with unique retro decor. There is a detached garage you are welcome to use (as well as anything in it - water toys, adult bike, etc). Toward the east side of the home is 278-acre Bass Lake, where we enjoy 100 feet of private frontage. Max lake depth is 16' - plenty deep for waterskiing and tubing. Fishing success is better known for pan-fish, bass and big pike, but there are muskies and walleye.
We have two story windows overlooking a terraced rock pathway to our pier, bench and seasonal 12' rowboat with oars. For added fun, we have a fishing kayak and paddle! The pier and boat are taken out of the water after October 1. If your visit is after this time, the pier and/or boat may not be available. The wood fireplace and cathedral ceilings in the living room make this the place where you'll love to hang out. In the summer, the lakeside breeze off the large screen doors is great, but we also have two box fans in case you need them. We have 8 patio chairs and 2 lounge chairs on the covered deck overlooking the lake, and a charcoal barbecue. Enjoy privacy on the lake side queen bed bedroom with sliding glass doors. The other bedroom has a double bed and a twin bed. The queen hide-a-bed sofa in the living room sleeps two. There is also a bunk room out in the garage. Although not heated, the room can be a nice escape for the kids to use during summer months. Please note - We don't allow smoking. Up to two pets are welcome - no more, no exceptions. We furnish two adult life jackets, two child life jackets, water toys, games, puzzles, and a 10-speed bike. No laundry machines or services nearby, but Eagle River is 5 miles away and has a laundromat.
Plan on bringing your own disposable items (paper products, soaps, charcoal, lighter fluid, etc). We supply the clean linens, house towels and kitchenware. Our dining room table seats six. You'll want to bring your own beach towels, fishing gear, skis or snowmobile, depending on when you're visiting! The snowmobile trail runs east and West along Hwy 70 near us. To reach it from the house, just turn left out of the driveway (1572 West Bass Lake Road), then turn right on Cranberry Road, and then when you reach Hwy 70, the trail is right there. It's the same route as driving to the cabin from Eagle River, in reverse. Bring a cell phone because there is no phone service or wifi. We have ice cube trays, but you may choose to bring extra ice. Bass Lake has no public boat launch, but your private boat can be tied up at our pier.
(NOTE: Big Bass Resort is NOT currently offering boat launching as a service).
We allow eight people maximum occupancy. A separate, unheated room in the garage that is NOT a bedroom, has a bunk bed set and a queen pull out sofa. Do not plan on using this room as a bedroom as it is not equipped with detectors or heating/cooling.
June, July and August are only available to be reserved for a week at a time, with a Sunday arrival. We absolutely feel in love with this cute little cabin on Bass Lake. The check in process was easy and well explained in the notes. First impressions as we entered the cabin: dirty, filthy floors that haven’t seen a sweep or a mop in ages. We couldn’t just walk on it and swept the floors ourselves. We got a half a ft tall mount of dirt by just sweeping the living room. Also, the coffee machine was missing the pot. We contacted the manager and they told us we can buy a pot and they will reimburse us. We decided to just make instant coffee. These are the only issues we had. The cabin is otherwise a wonderful place to be and enjoy the lake breeze and clean pine air. We loved the cabin vibe: retro 70s-80s furnishing, paneling, vinyl records and a player, tons of old books, diaries that belonged to ppl in late 1930s, just so much random stuff that was mesmerizing to read. We enjoyed the nightly bon fires, grilling (although the charcoal grill is on its last breath too). We will be coming back to the cabin but we’ll bring our own grill, coffee pot, bedding sheets (the ones provided had holes) maybe even a vacuum to clean the floors. But we would love to come back and stay there again. It’s a slice of Heaven right here in the backwoods of our own state.
Our third time at this property-we love everything about it! We hope to be back next year!
We had a great vacation! The Bass fishing on this lake is great. This was our second stay here and will be coming back for sure.
We had a great time for a winter weekend and will be back in summer for a week. Needs a little TLC but over all it's a beautiful place
Beautiful view.... great location! Would definitely rent this place again.
A group of five girlfriends, up to Eagle River to attend Cranberryfest 2022. Weather was gorgeous, lake was gorgeous surrounded by the fall colors and we had a blast. We loved both the first and real wood fireplace. The house was equipped with everything we needed.
It was a fishing trip and every thing was fine
Dowdy....really ugly tile work in kitchen and bath and the kitchen cabinets were on their last leg....the beautiful blond wood walls and ceiling were affronted......I don't think the property description mentioned that there was NO wi-fi or TV. There is a tiny monitor and DVD player......left a few days early......rather be bored at home
The place was a little out dated for me but my parents loved the retro vibes. The netendo brought back memories of my childhood, and got to show my nieces and nephew what video games were like 20 years ago. Loved being on the water during the day and catching toads or sitting by the fire at night. Awesome little shops in town but wished they stayed open a little longer. Lots of daddy longleg spiders but didnt see any ticks and little mosquito.
The property is not maintained very well. It has lots of potential. Being on a lake I would think you would want to see it. Trees could be trimmed. Caught some good sized bluegills the first 2 days, then all the fish shut down for the rest our stay.
Second time here. The property is very nice and private, the location is outstanding. Great fishing and overall nice lake for swimming. A few things to note: the house needs serious updates, it seems that nothing has been updated since our last stay a few years ago (same leaky fridge with even more problems this time). Cleaning person must not be very thorough, which is sad (the bed sheets in one bed weren't changed). Regardless because of the location, we still loved our stay. Hopefully the owners start taking care of the house! It can become an outstanding property with just a little investment.
What we loved: the view!!! The water! the cottage! The albums! Proximity to all of our favorite places in Three lakes and Eagle River. Our second stay and we loved every minute of it. Thank you.
Beautiful property on a beautiful lake. However when we checked and there was someone else’s bar of soap in the shower and popcorn all over the floor. After washing a small part of the floor (I normally don’t feel the need to clean the floors when renting a VRBO, but they seem very dirty ) it was completely a different color. It’s like no one has washed the floor in years.
