Baker City, Oregon
This, one of a kind, rustic log home tucked into the base of the Elkhorn Mountains is anything but rustic when it comes to amenities. It is a large (5200 Sq. Ft.) home located on 250 acres bordered by Wallowa Whitman National Forest. There is scenery, hiking, snowshoeing, wildlife and big starry skies right out the backdoor. You are within minutes of The Elkhorn Crest Trail and many Wilderness access options. Anthony Lakes ski area is 19 miles away. It is a 10 mile trip into Historic Baker City.
Please be aware that this is a "country experience". This means that there is more dust, especially after a hot, dry summer. There are also flies that migrate into the house during warm days accompanied by cold fall nights. This lasts for 3-4 weeks from late September until mid to late October. They are harmless but admittedly annoying. If this is a concern for you then please check with me before renting during this time of the year.
Seven plus bedrooms and four baths accommodate up to 16 people. Air mattresses are available for overflow. It is a perfect spot for a group retreat or workshop. The main living areas are well suited to meetings or workshops in a relaxed, elegant setting. WiFi access lets everyone stay in touch with customers while enjoying a few days of team building. Please note that wifi is Satellite which means 3-4 average users but not high performance as one might want for multible video game streamers.
Behind the house there is a grassy, wooded area with a large fire pit, water access and picnic table. Make smores, tell stories or simply listen to the elk bugling across the meadow. The house has a large wrap around deck, including a furnished, covered area (we lounge over coffee and breakfast here in warm weather) near the kitchen/main entry.
The house was built in 1979 with large diameter, hand hewn spruce logs. We recently completed a three year renovation project that provides top quality finish materials and modern amenities. The casual but elegant feel of the house is accentuated by hardwood floors, granite countertops, oriental carpets, chrystal chandeliers, antique furniture, leather couches original artwork and fine bedding. It has a gourmet kitchen (farm sink, professional, dual fuel range) capable of feeding a crowd. Two massive floor to ceiling stone fireplaces grace the main living areas, both upstairs and down. There are spectacular views out every window.
There are two open loft bedrooms. One with two twin beds and one with a queen bed. There is a catwalk between bedrooms overlooking the living room. The privacy is a bit limited here but the charm is not.
The main floor hosts a large entry way for depositing all of your outdoor gear, aforementioned kitchen with counter seating for 8-10, dining room with seating at the large table for up to 14 and a comfy conversation area of leather sofa and chairs, an additional sitting room with sofa, four comfy chairs and TV/DVD, small bath with toilet, shower and sink, large 'spa' bath with jetted tub and two sinks, small sun room perfect for a temporary bedroom or warming up on a winter day. Most of the main floor has high vaulted ceilings of knotty pine tongue and groove planks. For those requiring a main floor (No Stairs) bedroom option, the sitting room can be closed off with curtains and the hideaway queen sofa bed can be set up.
Downstairs are five more bedrooms, two bathrooms and an expansive game room. The master bedroom (Pineberry)has a queen bed, pull out queen couch and TV/DVD. The master bath has a toilet, shower and two sinks. The pink (Ladyslipper)room has a queen bed, large closet and child's pop up, portable 'crib'. The (Cedarberry)room has a queen bed and large closet. The blue (Huckleberry)has a double bed. The yellow (Sunburst)has a double bed. The game room has a pool/ping pong table, foosball table, TV/DVD/Wii and access to high speed network. Please note that the Blue Room is in a corner location reachable through either the Cedarberry or Sundburst rooms. It does not have direct access.
Beautiful house that was spacious and set in an amazing area. This was a great escape from the city. Tons to do and had everything we needed for our stay.
We recently had a small get together with a few family members we had not seen in 14 years. The accommodations at BG were perfect for our small group. We had plenty of room for privacy as well as visiting in lovely, comfortable surroundings. The weather provided serious heat, some smoke, then rain, so we did not take much advantage of the outdoor seating accommodations. Two suggestions: (1) We could not find a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Fortunately we didn't need it, but the one we eventually discovered near the downstairs fireplace would not have been available in the event of an emergency. We'd suggest more and more prominent fire extinguishers and/or fire blankets. (2) Idiot-proof directions for the entertainment center would have been much appreciated. We had to spend waaaaaay too much time figuring things out to play videos and/or watch a movie. And, sadly, missed the Women's World Cup final due to inability to determine how to get reception. Otherwise, we LOVED our visit to GB, and would recommend it to others. Thanks, Robin, for sharing this lovely place (and your amazing landscaping).
The lodge was great and the views from the deck fantastic...we loved it. The only issue we had was the representation of bedrooms and baths. The corner 3 bedrooms ran together which created a small issue for two families and the baths were misrepresented, in actuality, there are only 6 bedrooms and three baths. Other than that, it was a fantastic stay and we will probably rebook in the future. Thank you.
This property was absolutely perfect for our small family reunion. The setting is idyllic, the log home is gorgeous, and the kitchen was well stocked. What a perfect place for sharing meals, visits, and relaxed time together as an extended family. Thank you for the privilege!
Everything was wonderful. We've stayed before and hope to keep returning.
This house was amazing!!! It was a wonderful set up and beautiful scenery from mountains to wildlife. The house had something for everyone from kids to dogs there was never a dull moment. So thankful to find this place and excited to come back again soon! Robin & Katie we’re both super easy to work with very responsive! Thank you so much!
Great place to stay with groups. We've come back now for more fun.
We had 3 inches on new snow around the ranch. Each day club members were able to get up to Anthony lakes to ski. We even took a short trek on snowshoes around the property. The kitchen was so accommodating for our dinner prep and we loved all sitting at the large family dining table.
This property is awesome. Great for large groups and all ages. In the winter, kids can go sledding right in the property with parents watching from inside. Highly recommend.
Always a great place for our group to gather!
Everything perfect, highly recommend
Good Bear Ranch is an excellent choice for large gatherings. This cabin has views that never end. The host was very friendly, responsive and very detailed on how to check in and out! We had a wonderful time and would recommend Good Bear Ranch highly. Thank you so much!! Monica
We had a wonderful 5 day stay at this lovely home. The kitchen was well equipped and the house so family friendly. We would love to return.
Everyone had a wonderful time. The kitchen had everything we needed to stay in for the weekend and have family cooked meels. The beds were very comforable and the entire house was very clean and comfortable. We were lucky enough to get a nice snow and used the sleds in the garage for lots of fun time sledding down the hill with the kids! I would recommend this for any family reunions or just a nice quit place for relaxing! beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful!
Fantastic rental, beautiful property, great conservation ethic
We loved our stay at Good Bear! The outdoor space was just perfect for the mornings and for taking in the cool air that comes down from the mountains in the evenings. Space to spread out and relax or play. Highly recommended!
We stayed here for a family reunion with a large three generation group ranging in age from 10 to 79. It’s a great space for a big group. Robin and Katie were responsive and helpful with our planning and arrival. The house was lovely, beautiful construction, and well equipped with plenty of dishes, cookware, towels, and linens. The kitchen was perfect for cooking and eating together and the house overall was spacious with lots of different places to hang out, chat, and relax. And the view is spectacular! The outdoor seating and wrap around deck were our favorite spots, and the kids and dogs loved being able to run around the partially fenced yard. The pool table was a hit with the teens—no one turned on the TV or Xbox the entire weekend. The house is about 20 minutes from Baker City and 40 minutes from Anthony Lakes. We had a wonderful time.
We used the property for our friends yearly get together. We spent tinn my e enjoying the surrounding and Baker city. The property has everything you need for your stay.
