Dive into a rich array of Old Tahoe history! Fleur du Lac Estates, ("flower of the lake"), is a stunning, 15-acre, gated lakefront community on Lake Tahoe's glorious west shore, and the former summer estate of Industrialist Henry J. Kaiser. Impressively, in 1938 Kaiser led 300 men in building his estate in 30 days so he could host a party to celebrate the completion of the Hoover Dam. The architectural design featured what is known as the “Tahoe Vernacular” and This style is characterized by a rustic exterior, with stonework, heavy timbers, and ornamental ironwork. Features of this design still permeate the historic property, and to this day the interiors of the 22 homes on the estate still boast knotty pine, rock and comfortable, lodge-style furnishings of the Old Tahoe era.
For those who enjoy more glitsy Hollywod connections, The Godfather: Part II was filmed at Fleur du Lac in 1973, and presented an accurate view of both the exterior and interiors of the time. Now, 50 years later, the luxury compound offers an abundance of additional amenities not available at any single lakefront home: swimming pool / hot tub, tennis courts, bocce ball courts, fitness area, boat slip, Yacht Club with a commerical kitchen and dining area and a Clubhouse with a pool table, shuffleboard and game tables. With sprawling colorful gardens, lush lawns and the most beautiful blue views silhoutted by majestic mountians, the setting is arguably the most breathtaking one can experience at Tahoe.
It is no coincidence that your vacation rental home at Fleur du Lac is Unit #1, for it is truly the best home offered for 30 night rentals in the complex. As an end unit, you have unobstructed, panoramic lakeviews, a stone patio practically sitting on top of the water when lake levels benefit from plentiful snowfall, and wonderful serenity amongst the cool breezes rustling between the trees. Inside, a large great room, with floor to ceiling windows, brings the beauty of Lake Tahoe to your living space. A wet bar, wood burning fireplace and dining area create an atmosphere for entertainment. The kitchen, tuck away in an adjacent area, is outfitted with everything a chef desires for such entertaining. Each bedroom is en suite and provides luxury linens and pillows to ensure a restful night. Lastly, the office space at the entry has a cozy fireplace and table for those days in which you need to attend to some pressing work matters. The owner desired to keep her home true to it's original orgins with its interior design; she genuinely hopes that you will relish the history of the area in which you are staying as much as others have from decades prior.

Winter Driving
Many highways, access roads and/or driveways are steep in Tahoe/Truckee and may be icy in the winter. To ensure your safety, it is critical that during November 1st - April 30th brakes, windshield wipers, defroster, heater and exhaust system are in top condition. Tires need to be properly inflated and the tread must be in excellent condition. Always carry tire chains, even if driving an AWD/4WD vehicle. Make sure the chains are the proper size for your tires and are in working order. You may find valuable winter driving tips from the CHP here: https://bit.ly/3IKiY7n
Summer Patio Furniture
Patio furniture is available for your use during summer months only. All outdoor tables, chairs and loungers are put into storage in the fall, in order to protect the furnishings from winter weather. Barbecue grills, however, do remain outside for your enjoyment.
Be Bear Aware
Black bears are very common in this area and have become habituated to human food and garbage. Because bears no longer have a strong fear of humans, you may encounter bears during your spring, summer and fall stays. Feeding bears is illegal. Leaving food outside, trash accessible, or doors and windows unlocked is likely to cause significant property damage to homes and to vehicles. Please take a moment to learn how to be Bear Aware, so that we can continue to live in harmony with our wildlife.
