Fern Creek guests enter a captivating peace-filled space (a separate apartment in the lower level of our home) surrounded by forests and gardens where all kinds of life flourish. Take a walk in the woods or on the country roads that wind around the hills in our neighborhood.
We are a zero energy solar powered small farm on five acres, which includes a forest of evergreen, maple, and oak, nearly two acres of attractively designed vegetable gardens, orchards, and berry fields, and a charming hen house and an even more charming goat barn and yard, (home to our five Nigerian Dwarf goats, Clara and her daughters Julian and Katerie, and Hazel and her daughter Oakley. Fresh fresh fruit, vegetables, and eggs from Fern Creek can be purchased in the Fern Creek Market (adjacent to the apartment) as seasonally available, along with a variety of small batch preserved items, our own Sageworks Soapery goat milk soaps, fair trade organic chocolate (made in the NW) and other locally produced snacks. (The small bars in the bathroom are some of our goat milk soaps, which you are encouraged to take with you when you leave).
Guests stay in a 1250 square-foot apartment in the lower level of our home. It has a separate entrance, private courtyard, 9-foot ceilings and good natural light. Unique features add interest to the space, like the kitchen and bath cabinets built from reclaimed lumber from a barn in Gaston. French doors off the master bedroom (king bed) lead to a private patio. The second bedroom holds a queen bed in the most quiet and dark room of the apartment. A Jack-n-Jill bathroom has doors separating three rooms (sink & toilet/shower/sink) making the bathroom feel more like 1 1/2 or 2. The open design kitchen, dining room, and living room make you feel like you’ve entered a place with room to breathe. Stay two nights or seven and rest in the beauty and quiet of this small working farm.
Homemade cookies (Mark makes famously popular Ranger Cookies) will be on the table when you arrive along with a complimentary bottle of local wine for guests staying three nights or more. The apartment includes a private courtyard, 50" flat-screen TV, wireless Internet, ironing and bath amenities. Organic, fair trade coffee and tea, organic oats, brown sugar and dried fruit are stocked in the fully equipped kitchen. We grow our food sustainably, and solar panels supply all of our electricity. Our goal is to live as gently as we can and to that end cleaning supplies and bath amenities are Earth-friendly.
Guests are welcome and encouraged to walk through the forest, check out the orchard and gardens, and sit in the gazebo down by the creek. We do ask that you stay out of the chicken house and visit the goats from your side of the fence unless I have a chance to introduce you. Mark and I live in a separate space upstairs, so you’ll hear us patter around when we’re home, and some evenings the smell of our homegrown popcorn may waft downstairs.
We maintain a minimum of 27 hours airing time between guests, and implement some enhanced cleaning routines that include cleaning frequently touched surfaces (e.g. light switches, door knobs, stove and cabinet knobs, faucets), rotating and airing out pillows and opening windows.

Very nice quiet home away from the city, Beautiful surrounding area. Would definitely stay again.
We loved everything about it. Spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. We wished we'd had more time to stay and relax there.
Had a wonderful stay! The home is immaculate and the grounds are beautiful. Our hosts were very welcoming. Everything was perfect.
This is a 2-BR lower-level apartment where the owners live above. The positives: surrounded by beautiful orchards, gardens, chickens, and goats. Has a hot tub, living room, dining table for 4, and all appliances except a dishwasher. One thing to consider: you WILL hear the occupants above. On our stay we heard constant footsteps and running by children. Also, if you're arriving at night, the roads are VERY dark and it is a bit difficult to find the driveway turn into the property. Other than that, we had a great stay!
Stayed here for 3 nights in the middle of a week long vacation to the PNW area. This was our home base for the southern Portland area and about an hour away from Silver Falls state park. The property is the first floor of a large home, with 2b/1ba, and a full kitchen. Plenty of space to stretch out and the accommodations were immaculately clean. Highlights were the serene surroundings, we loved getting to feed the chickens and goats, and hot tub at night after a strenuous hike. Owners were available and communicative and Lisa has a shop next to the apartment where we could buy farm fresh eggs for breakfast use, as well as handmade soap. Would absolutely recommend coming here for a peaceful, restorative visit.
The property was beautiful, the home was extremely comfortable and well-appointed. Lisa is an amazing host, there were very tasty cookies waiting for us when we checked in. Kateri and Hilda, the kidds... so cute. Fun to watch all of the goats interact with each other, and to also feed the chickens. Wish we had more time to explore. We will definitely be back. The market was adorable, and of course, we left with goodies made from goat's milk and then some.
We liked this rental very much. As birdwatchers, we have been very excited to be surrounded by birds all over the property and in the area. The rental is very confortable and the kitchen well equipped (oil, vinegar, sugar, coffee, tea, etc). The communication was also very easy.
The farm is beautiful and the apartment is perfect. Very spacious with a warm, inviting feel, and very private too. You’ll love it here!
This property was beautifully clean, thoughtfully and thoroughly stocked. So many thoughtful details! Handmade soaps, compost bin, tea selection, French press, and enough dishes/serving ware to host a lovely family dinner. Beds were very comfortable. The location and property are beautiful and relaxing. We appreciate spending time at your beautiful home, and look forward to staying again in the future!
We enjoyed a wonderful weekend getaway in Oregon wine country. We couldn't have chosen a better place! Highly recommend for those who want a peaceful retreat!
What a great experience. Lisa and Richard are so gracious and easy to work with. She leaves special little things that make you feel very welcome. By far the best VRBO that we have stayed at. We hope to be able to visit again in the future. You can't go wrong by staying at this beautiful place.
Wonderful place to make our home base while visiting wine county. Peaceful and quiet with sweet goats and chatty chickens. The little extras like goat's milk soap and full assortment of spices were very welcoming.
Fern Creek Farm is a gorgeous place tucked away from the world. It somehow managed to be both remote, and convenient to several nearby towns with plenty of amenities. It's quiet, peaceful, and welcoming; there are chickens and goats to feed, birds to watch, and an excellent dog named Oliver. The owners are pleasant and accommodating, and essentially invisible after we checked in. Stay here if you're looking for a harmonious break from the world.
A beautiful modern apartment on an organic solar powered farm. A lovely garden with chickens, goats and Adirondack chairs on the patio. The apartment was the perfect base of operations for a few days of wine tasting. Close enough to restaurants and coffee shops and yet a quiet spot in the country. Comfy beds, home made cookies and a hot tub— it ticked all the boxes.
Wonderful everything! Just what I needed, plus wine and great weather!
Great place to stay and very relaxing. Beautiful property.
This stay was way beyond our expectation of a class AAA EXPERIENCE. Our best VRBO experience so far.
We were in the area for a wedding and stayed with our two young children. They had so much fun exploring the farm and feeding the goats and chickens. They love the handcrafted goat soaps. Lisa was very responsive and extremely friendly. Highly highly recommend this amazing get away!!
My family had a wonderful time at the farm. Lisa and Mark were excellent hosts and really made us feel welcome. The communication beforehand was excellent, and they greeted us with wine and cookies upon our arrival. Our children were thrilled to feed the goats every morning, which Lisa was kind enough to facilitate on several occasions. The farm is beautiful...it is really quite impressive what Lisa and Mark have created there! Thank you!
Our stay went seamlessly. Our host was gracious. Perfect for a retreat and to tour Willamette.
A perfect place for a peaceful getaway with friends. Also a great location for wine tasting! cant wait to visit again. Thank you so much!
