The place was impossible to find because iTrip had the address wrong. We were only able to find it after zooming in on the photo of the listing to find the correct house number. But that was fine compared to the rest of our experience. This property knowingly had issues with their stove and gas leaking from it due to faulty knobs and did not warn us of the issues. We used the stove at night and could not turn the gas off. We had to wait until 2am for iTrips maintenance person to arrive to locate and turn off the gas valve. The next morning we waited for someone from the gas company who confirmed that the knobs were broken, and iTrip would not issue a refund for the major inconvenient stay/experience we had due to their negligence. Our plans to stay on Cannon beach for two nights were ruined. They said we could stay because there was no longer a safety issue, but one of our requirements was a functional kitchen. Expedia was no help either, they said we needed to call them during our stay, not after. We didn’t think that iTrip would be unreasonable. Just don’t stay here, the place smells terrible, the garbage cans were full to overflowing, and the customer service is terrible!

Our stay at the Hemlock House was wonderful! It very comfortably fit two families with kids, who spent much of the time when not at the beach playing foosball, doing puzzles (the house has many puzzles and books), and playing hide and seek. The gas fireplaces are very cozy, and the adults even spent a night watching a movie on Apple TV. The kitchen is small but well stocked with tools, including crackers for crab, nice pots and pans, and sharp knives. The beach is a 5 minute walk away with easy access. It is definitely a well loved older home with minor wear issues - which with children, I appreciate not having to worry about spilled milk or a scuff on the floor. I very much appreciated that the flooring was all hard (no carpet), and my tree and weed allergies were not an issue there. I would not hesitate to return in the future.

There was a gas leak in the house. We couldn’t use the stove and oven as the gas company came and shut off the gas to the stove. None of the smoke detectors worked as the batteries were dead. I replaced the batteries.

The host was amazing and quick to answer any questions I had. Their provided reading materials and various board games provided much needed entertainment when we weren't out and about. We were especially grateful for the surplus bedding and the quality of hot water. Lastly, access to a washer/dryer, dishwasher, and the supplied detergents made the stay everything we needed it to be.The checkout process couldn't have been more simple and straight forward.

The Positives:Location: Excellent—easy walk to the beach and close to the city center. Off-street parking was a plus.Management: The rental company was very responsive before and during our stay.Amenities: New oven/range and outdoor grill. They allowed dogs, which was a major perk. The Unfortunate (Needs Improvement):Overall, the house felt like a poorly maintained rental. Our basic assessment was to touch as little as possible.Maintenance & Quality: The house needs general maintenance, including fixing the almost unusable patio sliding door. The furniture was very worn (college-kids style).Kitchen Issues: New appliances were installed without a proper retrofit, making some drawers and cabinets inaccessible. Utensils were a hodgepodge.Cleanliness: There was a strong musty smell, and a deep cleaning is needed (including windows). The decor was a mix-match of garage-sale finds.Heating: Heating sources were outdated (circa 1970 wall heaters, baseboard, electric pot belly stove) and looked undusted/unreliable.Location Note: It was not clear the house sits right on hwy 101, resulting in a fair amount of road noise.Missing Essential: A vacuum cleaner is necessary due to debris tracked in from the rain and pine needles.Summary: We would not rent here again. The excellent location and great mgmt could not fully compensate for the house's lack of general maintenance, worn furnishings, and overall lower standard.we left early.

For the price this was a great choice for large groups who can split costs. We had a group of 8 and there was ample sleeping room and we split the cost 3 ways which was equivalent to the hotels/campground cabins in the area. Many (BUT not all) of the previous issues have been resolved. House is very musty and damp with in 12 hours of last clean. There are no smoke/ cO2 dectors and there is at least 1 window with no screen. Parking lot is tree covered so downstairs gets very messy with dirt/pine needles anytime you walk inside (shoes off at the door highly recommended unless you really like sweeping) Middle level is very cozy but we managed to fit everyone the large dining table even made it reasonable when our friends stopped by to visit. Kitchen fits 1 person comfortably and cabinets are filled if you need room for a lot of groceries. (Grocery is close so if we stayed again we would just do bargain shopping in seaside which is a 15/20 min drive)Gas stove is brand new, dishwasher is newish, and washer and dryer work well. Fridge is smaller but worked fine. Grill looked brand new but only had one working element (very very dirty) we did not hang out on the deck. Its very shaded, trees were dropping sap. Beds were very basic, we had no issues (late 30s with no issues) but older friends did complain (early to mid 50s)Check out procedures were easy and minimal which was nice.

The house was not clean and that made it difficult to be at ease during our stay. It was very dusty. Several things were broken, the most obvious was a headboard hanging down from one of the beds. The furniture and building materials of the house were either very old, or made of some inexpensive material.

Place is a little bit run down, pictures are deceiving. On top of that, we had a severe issue involving a gas leak that required the gas to be shut off for half our stay - we couldn’t shower, cook or do laundry. We understand things happen but the property management handled it very poorly. I still haven’t received any type of credit or compensation back and VRBO is no help either. Save yourself the trouble and book elsewhere

Very disappointing! Property was very unkept-had to sweep out unit just to get pine needles out that got tracked in because no where to park except stone/dirt parking area - bushes and trees are consuming the building. Dead flies and cobwebs in window sills along w random screw laying on sills. Old food on built in cutting board. Don’t think windows have been washed in years! Just an overall mess! Only reason I even gave it 1 star is to be sure next families know to avoid this place! Ironic my husband got a msg asking how our stay was - and they couldn’t be bothered to even act like they cared. We had booked this for 3 nights but cut our stay short by a night to get to a clean hotel! Worst place we’ve ever stayed - and we have travelled all over the world!

I rarely ever do a review, but to be honest I was really disappointed with the house. I saved and planned for months to take this vacation and I was really hopeful that it would be as good as previous vacation rentals I've used in the past. To start off the email I was sent had the wrong house address which made it difficult to find, I had to use the pictures from the listing. My first impression was that the house looked abandoned as the outside looked like there was no upkeep. The little bit of grass there wa was knee high and everything else was overgrown. Upon entering the house there was a strong odor of mold and mildew. I actually went and bought a can of air freshener. The silverware drawer had food stuck to the tray and utensils. The stove needs work as the smell of gas did linger so the window was open most of the time. The main floor bathtub looks like it has been patched several times and the handle looked like it was moldy. Above the shower also had what appeared to be mold around the top. The towels smelled moldy like they were left to sit in the washer for days before being dried. It is a pet friendy house which was fine but the couches were covered in dog hair. The toilet handle was broken. It was tidy but really needs a deep clean There were so many things.

Our stay was relatively good. No real issues with the property. The dishwasher wasn’t working, which was communicated on the day of check in. It was a little last minute, but still understandable. We loved that we were within walking distance of the beach, and only a short 5 minute drive to downtown Cannon Beach. This felt like staying at an older relative’s house. It’s cozy, but it’s got its own quirks.

We arrived about an hour after check-in and were welcomed with a parking area full of trash courtesy of a overturned garbage can ravaged by raccoons. We were unable to enter the property due to the door lock battery being dead. Contacted the manager, she was extremely rude, told me someone was going to come out and let me it and then promptly hung up on me. She called back with an ETA for the repair crew of 5-10 minutes. After 40 minutes, we were told they would be out in a few minutes. They never called back to let us know the lock was fixed, we just had to guess when we could get in to the place. Upon entry to the house, we discovered that although the pictures online of the house were technically correct, they were grossly filtered to make the house look much brighter and cheerier that it actually is. The top floor loft is an excellent space, however dark, but it was unusable due to the horrendously uncomfortable bed which prompted my wife and I to sleep in the bed on the ground floor. The ground floor was damp and drafty. The comforter on the bed and any clothes we set out for the day were damp and cold by the evening. The downstairs bathroom seems to be an afterthought. It was a dreary, colorless room with a washer/dryer, a small shower and a cramped toilet and sink. Neither the downstairs shower nor the second floor shower had shower curtain liners, resulting in a drenched curtain, a hazardously wet floor or both. I have more to say, but I have reached my limit.

This home has a lot of potential to be cozy and welcoming, despite its age. There are a few notable upgrades like the flooring on the main level and the new decking Both were nice, but there just haven’t been enough upgrades and TLC to make it a welcoming space. Most disappointing was the very dirty windows on the main floor, the layer of dust on the lower part of the banister, and the broken deck chairs sitting beside the driveway. Overall, it just doesn’t feel clean. There were many broken lamps, many broken shades, most windows are missing screens. The cookware, tableware, pillows, and decorations are a hodgepodge of old, used leftovers. The new deck only had two plastic chairs available, no table. It was a nice spot to do yoga in the morning, but we would’ve enjoyed sitting out and eating our meals on the deck. The stove was not working, only two functional burners, making it inconvenient for cooking. We were told of the broken stove a couple hours ahead of time without any offer of refund or other form of compensation. The trees around the house are beautiful, The location is very walkable to the beach which is less populated than in town, a definite plus. And if you are beach walkers, it’s a doable walk into town. Highway 101 is right behind the house and so there is moderate road noise. We recommend changing check-in to one hour earlier and check out to one hour later. The home was not a good value for the price.Again, it has so much potential, but just isn’t there yet

There are structural issues with this property that need to be addressed. The posts that hold up the deck are not even attached to the holders. There is an open trench with pvc pipe (sewer line) right out the back door. Every closet is filled with junk so you cannot hang clothes. Front blinds are broken so you can see into windows. House is right across from the beach though. Definitely not worth the money.
