The Spy House is rich with history and has been lovingly updated by Its owner. It was built in the 1880s in the Federal style and has been adapted for modern living with an open-concept living room and kitchen.

Any cook will feel at home in the well-appointed eat-in kitchen. You can enjoy a relaxing meal around the large handmade farm table. You will find a heavy-duty gas stove, stainless steel appliances, and granite countertops.

The home features three bathrooms. The primary bathroom features a vintage clawfoot tub, the upstairs guest bathroom a shower, and the first-floor bathroom features a bespoke shower and vanity. Each of the four bedrooms has a comfortable queen-sized bed.

The house is situated on Camp Hill, which is a ten-minute walk to downtown historic Harpers Ferry and the train station. There is no downside to being so close to the action as even on the busiest of days in town, it remains quiet at the Spy House.

One of the house's former residents was suspected of being a spy for Germany, investigated and arrested by the FBI in 1945, and soon after pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit espionage; hence the name, the Spy House.

To complete your booking you must sign our Rental Agreement (which will be sent to you electronically) and provide a copy of your photo ID (e.g., valid driver’s license or passport). With those two items taken care of, you will be sent an email containing instructions for checking in the week of your stay.

For awareness, the property has exterior security cameras that may record the front and rear doors to assist with remote check-in and monitoring of the property between guests. There are no fires permitted in the wood stove pictured in the living room or anywhere outdoors on the property. The upstairs bathrooms have a step down into them.

This is an excellent home for a visit to Harpers Ferry, great location for doing anything local, hikes, history of the area... Home was very clean, had many of the kitchen things you may need to make a meal were provided... Our host was present when needed, and followed up with us... Really enjoyed our time here.

Had a great stay at Jay's Spy House. Super location and nicely modernized house in the very heart of Harper's Ferry historic district. Jay was very attentive to anything we needed, which turned out to be very little, since everything was provided. Definitely recommend at stay here if visiting HF.

The home is beautiful. It is very clean. Jay is easy to reach. It is definitely not less than a ten minute walk to historic Harpers Ferry. It is quite a haul. Not disclosed in the property's description is all the varying levels of the floors and all the steps required to travel throughout the house from room to room. This could be considered a cute quirk in an historic home. However, not good for anybody with mobility issues. Even my athletic 14 year old daughter fell into the bathroom and landed on the floor with her head in the shower. Be careful with elderly and young kids.

We had the best time at Jay's place in Harpers Ferry. The house was great, check in was easy. We had 4 kids - ages 1 - 5 and the property was really kid friendly, with a nice backyard and space for playing in the house. The bedrooms were spacious and the whole house was clean and stocked. The location was AMAZING. We could walk everywhere in town; parks, coffee shops, restaurants, historic sites, etc. Definitely recommend!

3 Collage buddies in our 60's visited Harper's Ferry for an active get-together (hiking as it turned out). WE spent 2 nights mid-week and the house was great. Way more than we needed, but would be great for longer stays too. The house is completely as described - beautifully renovated while maintaining the look and feel of a 19th century home. Nice amenities and comfortable accomodations. Pretty close to the old, lower town which made it super-convenient.Jay communicated in a very timely fashion and provided important and useful info.

The house was excellent. We give it full marks. If we noted problem areas they would have to do with being off season in a tourist town - we had fewer walking-distance dining options than expected. But we did fine driving a few miles. The weekend was a huge success.

We traveled with a couple who are good friends to celebrate my upcoming birthday. Visiting Harpers Ferry in the winter was a good decision, because it wasn't crowded yet most everything was open. Breweries and wineries and museums. . . it was a great trip! The home is beautiful and very thoughtfully restored. The owner even won a preservation award for the house and it's richly deserved! The kitchen is well stocked and everything was just comfortable. It was a great place from which to explore the area, and coming back at night was just like coming home. We'll be back! :)

Had a wonderful couple of nights here for a last minute getaway. The house is pristine, exactly as pictured, and in essentially perfect condition. The location is great for walking into town or hiking the trail, and very quiet at night. While we didn't cook, the kitchen is incredibly well-equipped w/ pans, dishes, basic spices, coffee, tea, etc. It would have been comfortable and functional for a much longer stay. The beds are comfy, the linens are great, and the whole space is a great mix of charming old construction w/ very modern/new renovation. The host is very responsive and gracious, and the check-in process was simple. Great to have dedicated parking in Harper's Ferry also. The only thing I'd highlight for anyone considering the property is that the ensuite bathroom doesn't have a door, so it's open to the bedroom. Just something to be aware of when booking. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it without reservation.

Jay is a great host. The instruction was very clear. He checked on us if everything was ok. He was extremely responsive. The house was very clean. You can tell the owner made an effort in upgrading and taking care of the details. The location is great close to everything. We especially liked the Kelly farm kitchen which was recommended by Jay. Harper’s Ferry is a hidden gem full of history and beauty. If you don’t want to stay at Quality Inn or any chain hotel 20, 30 minutes away then Jay’s house is the best choice as it’s in the center of the town. We had a wonderful time.

We enjoyed the lovely location and pleasant ambience of this home. We were four adults all from the same family who enjoy visiting historic sites. The plusses were the quiet street, spacious rooms, nicely equipped kitchen and comfortable seating. Although the master bath was roomy and airy with a lovely clawfoot tub, there was no door. However, this was inside the master bedroom, so it might not matter to most people. The town itself is picturesque with some steep streets and nicely restored buildings. Many of these sold ice cream or were restaurants, but during the week we noticed most were closed by dinner time. This was surprising, but we did find a restaurant outside of town a bit. We used it twice for dinner during our time here. Lunch was not a problem. Jay responded pretty quick and answered any question we had. In our rush to depart on time I left a very full tote bag loaded with all my cosmetics, hair products, medications and other necessities hanging in the bathroom. He has promised to get this to me when he returns from traveling for business. (We will be happy to pay for the expense in sending it back to us.) Needless to say, my mistake dampened our visit. We live in Texas. I think anyone spending time here would enjoy their stay.
