This place is awesome. It’s an adventure to get there but staying on top of your own mountain is priceless. We hiked, floated the Shoshone, did trail horse rides on the mountain, rented a UTV for a couple of days, went into spirit cave with access from the BLM office, went to the nite rodeo, all the things.

We planned to stay two nights at this beautiful retreat on the mountain, but after driving up the “trail” the first day, our unique stay was clouded by the terrible trek to access the rental. Once you start the trek up the trail to the house, you are pretty much committed to finish. We climbed at a steady pace of 1-2 MPH as to not bottom out in the rocks and washed out areas. It took us an hour to drive 4 miles to the rental. I contacted Stacy on our trek up informing her that we were not comfortable with the condition of the road, in which she assured me that the description online was warning enough for us to know what we were getting in to (it was apparent she has taken many concerned phone calls of this nature). She also stated that a 4x4 is needed (not in the description) and that guests drive 10-15 MPH on the “road” (would be impressive to see). I captured pictures on our way down, which was easy since I had to get out of the SUV multiple times to guide my husband to the “best path”. Not sure what you’d do if the trail would be wet. Please follow the advice from me and multiple others to only rent this home if you have a high-clearance 4x4 or, better yet, an off-road vehicle made for these conditions. Otherwise, you will be frustrated trying to get refunded for canceling the remainder of your stay because you’d rather not destroy your vehicle with the trek. Thank you, Erin, for making the refund happen for us! I’d contact her directly for any issues.

First impressions: 1. The drive up is no joke. Even with higher clearance and four-wheel-drive, plan on 50 minutes coming up the mountain or going down. Highly recommend not doing this in the dark. There are many places where you have to strategize and if you don’t have a good visual on the next 20-40 feet, you could end up high centered and/or doing damage to your vehicle. On the day we returned from exploring Yellowstone, a small boulder had loosened and rolled down in the road. We had to roll it out of the way to get through.2. The property is very unkempt and looks abandoned. The weeds, grass, and small bushes are overgrown on the east side of the house where you first pull up. On the west side of the house there’s a really nice drive and patio area, but it is not inviting to look at. There are overgrown weeds and grasses in the cracks all over the driveway, some 2 feet tall. 3. Upon entering the foyer, we were assaulted by the smell of a dead rodent, which was clearly coming from the entryway closet. We messaged the property manager about this and a couple of other issues, and someone did come up the next morning. We were not here, and I’m not sure what they did because the odor is still there.4. The rest of the house was very inviting. The decor is lovely and the sleeping arrangements were comfortable. We stayed a total of six nights. It’s beautiful, secluded, and unbelievably peaceful. Because there is a grill included as one of the amenities, we came prepa

To start, the driveway to get to the unit was 4 miles of rough, rocky terrain on the side of a cliff. It was very dangerous and hazardous and it took an hour and a half to navigate. The rental had no ice, and no way to make ice. There were no supplies..soap, shampoo, etc. The water smelled like sulfur, there was no hot water in the master bath. The doors locked us out of the house and it took over 2 hours to get back in.The fireplaces did not work and the only heat was 2 floor space heaters, which took quite a while to figure out how to operate. There were no instructions. With the road requiring an hour travel each way it simply was not feasible to go back and forth to the rental

The cabin is great! Amazing views, it was clean and Erin got back to us quickly with all our questions. The road is the only downside definitely need 4x4 with high clearance.

We had really hoped to stay at this property, but the drive up the mountain was terrifying. We made it one of the three miles up the mountain in our pickup truck and decided it was safest to turn around and book a hotel instead. I’m sure the property is beautiful but we could not make it up the “road”. Please note this is not a paved road, has very large rocks that tore up our tires and make the truck bottom out, and the entire drive was a narrow path on the edge of the mountain with steep drop offs. I don’t believe this drive is suitable for any vehicle.

This is truly a unique location & as far as we could tell, the ONLY home on Spirit Mountain. If you want privacy/seclusion & amazing views, this is the place! Each of us in our family had a great week there. Our 4 year old loved all the butterflies & playing in the little teepee. Our teens, 16 & 13, loved hiking, fire pit, exploring in the side-by-side & of course - the internet. We brought a ps4 & our Amazon fire sticks. I recommend that if your kids use that stuff to stay connected. The internet, considering the remoteness of the location, worked great for everything & the Wi-Fi range was everywhere we needed it. I can’t say enough about what we called the back patio area where the firepit seating is. The view down to the town of Cody is amazing. Yes, there were a couple nights the wind was too much to enjoy a fire - but we were definitely able to on other evenings. We had brought our ‘cornhole’ board set from home & set those up to play on the patio area as well. The owner is amazing - communication was always available. The owners have ample campfire seats in the house that we were able to use. The built in seating area around the firepit is perfect. Sunrises w/coffee were amazing. Star gazing, amazing! Our kids asked what the cloudy line area was in the night sky on one of our first nights - they had not really ever seen the Milky Way! The reviews on the drive up the mountain being quite the trek are right. After the first up/down though, it gets easier. So much more!

Our group of 7 adults each gave this stay a 10/10! The views were beyond amazing and an experience unlike one we’ve ever had. They’re not kidding though when they say a 4WD is necessary. I would add a high clearance 4WD would be best but oh, so worth the 40 minute drive up the mountain. Make your grocery list and check it more than twice lol. I can attest that we all slept well and can say the master bedroom mattress was amazing! We would have loved to have had a kitchen table to gather around, but the countertop seating was sufficient. Pack warm clothes…we had sleet on July 6th!! It’s much colder up there than we expected but we were comfy in our sweats gathered around the outdoor fire pit. I have already recommended this cabin on the mountain to someone planning a trip out West Thank you for allowing our family to share your home to make memories we will never forget.
