Step back in time with this one-of-a-kind Train Car Retreat in Duluth, MN—a charming, elegantly converted 1920s-30s passenger train car transformed into a cozy, historic home. Nestled just steps from Lake Superior's pristine shores, with public beach access only a few minutes' walk away, this unique stay offers an unparalleled blend of vintage allure and modern comfort.

Perfectly positioned just a half-mile stroll from Canal Park, the iconic Lift Bridge, restaurants, and attractions, this is the only train car stay in Duluth, promising a truly unforgettable experience for history buffs, couples, families, and anyone seeking a distinctive escape.

Once a passenger car rolling along Park Point's tracks, this historic train car has been lovingly restored to preserve its original character. Imagine settling into a living room adorned with authentic woodwork, vintage windows, and original train hardware, all crafted into a cozy, tiny-home-style retreat. The Sleeping Car bedroom on the main level features twin bunk beds, evoking the nostalgic charm of a bygone era, while upstairs, a private master bedroom with a custom-made king bed offers modern comfort with a nod to the train's elegant past. Local craftsman Alan Jensen has masterfully blended vintage train elements with custom furniture and local art, creating a space that feels both timeless and unique.

The Train Car Retreat isn't just a place to stay—it's a journey back in time. A fully equipped kitchen with heated floors and patio access opens to a delightful outdoor space, perfect for soaking in the sights and sounds of Duluth's working harbor. Savor your morning coffee on the patio while listening to the reveille of the nearby Army Corps of Engineers or the Coast Guard's announcements echoing across the water. Watch massive ships salute the Lift Bridge as they glide through the harbor, or embrace the occasional “Bridged” moments—lasting 5 to 25 minutes—when the bridge rises for passing vessels, offering front-row seats to the rhythm of Park Point life.

Just across the street lies the best public beach access on Park Point, with seven miles of white sand beach beckoning for exploration, alongside a playground and picnic area for family-friendly fun. The updated bathroom, complete with heated floors and a spacious walk-in shower, ensures modern comfort after a day at the beach. This tiny-home train car, with its twin bunk beds and upstairs master, maximizes space without sacrificing style, making it ideal for a cozy, memorable getaway.

This is more than a vacation home—it's a rare opportunity to live inside a piece of Duluth's history, right on the edge of Lake Superior. Whether you're a Harry Potter fan enchanted by the train's whimsical charm or a history lover captivated by its storied past, this Train Car Retreat offers a one-of-a-kind experience in one of Duluth's most coveted locations. Book now for an unforgettable escape where vintage elegance meets lakeside serenity.

Our family loved visiting the Train House, as our 4 yr old called it. Such a sweet little gem in a really neat city. Could add a few toys for the kiddos who visit, but all in all, a great stay. Thank you!

This is a very cute property, nice bathrooms and kitchen but could use some attention to details and the train car portion is very musty smelling. The mattresses are comfortable, the bedding and pillows are nice. There is limited seating in the living area so we gathered at the kitchen table.

You advertise there as a an elevator. There is no elevator on site. I would recommend placing hot pads in the kitchen. It was nice having the fire pit in the back yard. But there was no wood for a fire.

We had an amazing stay at the train car house. Conveniently located close to the beach (walk across the street) and local restaurants. No complaints on our end. We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks for having us.

The place is very cute. It's narrow as a train car would be but extra space appears to have added on so there is a large bedroom with bunk beds and an upstairs bedroom which is large and lovely. The beach was really nice and the water was warm. Duluth is a fun City to walk. There is a great walk along the shore and going downtown.

Great location across the street from the beach. Coast Guard played Reveille in the morning 8am, Taps in the evening 9pm for flag hoisting and lowering. Comfortable bed, sunny nook in Master Bedroom. Mostly a quiet location. Sunny Patio. Great walks on the beach, along the road in Park Point, on the boardwalk in Canal Park. Bring your own beach chairs and blankets. Loud horn blasts now and then from the Aerial Lift Bridge, fun visit to Maritime Museum. Duluth Rose Garden, Enger Park. Great Co-op at Denfeld.

Would not rent again. Smelled old. Floors uneven. Steps coming down from primary. Are steep and anyone tall hit their head going down to the bathroom at night. Not recommended with any one with mobility concerns. Kitchen stocked, bathroom nice and walking distance to beach access.

The Train Car is adorable inside with lovely furnishings and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Plus side is that it’s a short walk to the Lift Bridge, making Canal Park on one side and Point Place on the other super close. We walked to the Festival of Sail and drove a short distance to walk along the beach.

A lot of really great details, very on theme. Communication was great. Layout is a bit awkward but worked okay for a short stay.

It was the perfect size for the four of us to have a couple days away together. My teenagers thought the bunk beds were very comfortable and they appreciated the reading lights and plugs next to their beds!

Excellent location just across the street from Public Beach access. Clean house with great bunk beds for kids in their own bedroom. Kids enjoyed the train theme of the main section of house. Easy 10 min walk into Canal District or an easy 2 min drive. Could benefit from some landscaping and general weed control in the backyard as well as a water spigot out back to wash off sand. Overall it was an excellent stay and we’d definitely come back again.

This is an awesome house and a great place to stay in Nisswa. It’s got plenty of space. It’s clean and well maintained. Our favorite was the game room with darts and a pool table and more.

Location of the property was great, close to canal park and right across the street from beach access. The downfalls- upstairs master bedroom is really bright in the morning if you are sensitive to light when sleeping. There was also no central AC in the cabin and we were there over a couple really hot days. Just a window cooling unit in master bedroom upstairs.

It is a lovely spot on park point where you can walk across the bridge to Canal Park and very close to Park Point beach. It’s very charming with surprisingly more room than you think. We loved our comfortable stay at such a one of a kind place and highly recommend it for those visiting the Duluth area!
