Alpine, Texas
This el viejo (old adobe) sits directly across the street from the beautiful Sul Ross State University campus and just a few blocks from downtown Alpine. This is a great basecamp while exploring all that Alpine and Big Bend have to offer. Marfa and Fort Davis are short drives away with beautiful scenery in between.
This location is not suitable for children under 12.
This old adobe sits on land, once part of the W.B.Hancock Ranch which was located just East of the original townsite of Alpine, Texas. After decades of witnessing cowboy and ranch life, this quiet old adobe was on land to be annexed into the town, after Mr. Hancock gave 100 acres for the establishment of Sul Ross State College on “Hancock Hill”.
Located across the street from the beautiful campus of Sul Ross State Univ. (and the Museum of the Big Bend), this old adobe guest house is easily accessible to downtown and restaurants. Only thirty minutes from Ft. Davis, or Marfa, or Marathon, and only an hour and a half hours from the Big Bend National Park, this is a great place to stay!
The living room has a small sofa and two sitting chairs. It has a tv with an Amazon Fire stick to login into your own entertainment apps. (Netflix etc.) Remember to logout before checking out!
Guests may park in the parking lot to the south of the property and access the front porch and side patio.

The north facing porch has been converted into a second bedroom and does not have venting for ac/heating. However it is an adobe house with tile floors and the additional bedroom stays pretty close to the temperature of the main house. A fan and heater are provided for your comfort.
Please note the fireplace is for decorative purposes only.
The guest bedroom is an addition and does not have a vent. Please use the fan or heater provided to heat and cool the room.
Also beware that we have the property regularly treated for pests. However, if you leave food or crumbs out it is very likely to attract ants into the property.
Check in is easy, property is easy to find and conveniently located across from the university. Our host was friendly and welcoming. The property is very cozy, clean, and has all the appropriate amenities to stay and enjoy a day in. Will book our stay here next time we are in Alpine. Glad we came across this gem.
Property was super clean and very cozy! Excellent location that allowed for quick acces to main high way.

The location of this charming house was perfect for our adventures in Big Bend National Park, the McDonald Observatory, Marfa, and Alpine. Loved the adobe house decor and clean bathroom and kitchen. Quick and helpful responses from the house host. Would stay here again!
The property was very nice and just as advertised. Communication with the host was prompt and courteous.
The property is quaint and just perfect for two couples. Location is great!
This was our second stay at El Viejo Adobe. The location is perfect for visiting downtown, the college, Cowboys baseball and Kokernot Outdoor Theatre. The house is clean and comfortable, and we enjoy its charming, Old West Texas style and decor.
The house is very cute and comfortable. All amenities needed were onsite. House is in a great location and would rent again if in the area.
This is a beautiful house that blends antique with modern styles. Big parking space, immediately across from the Sul Ross campus. Very comfortable beds, nice western decorations, and many books on the history of the area were available. Good communication with the property manager. Highly recommended and we will return!
El Viejo Adobe just became our favorite place to stay in West Texas. The home is clean, comfortable and conveniently located to enjoy trips to Big Bend, Marfa, Ft. Davis and the McDonald Observatory. The kitchen was equipped with everything needed for four people to enjoy cooking a meal at home. And the decor is beautiful! Also, to my delight, all the light switches are labeled! April, the Property Manager, was fantastic. She was very responsive before our trip and checked to see if we were all settled in after we arrived. The information brochure was complete with all info about the house as well as the Alpine area. Thank you April!
The place was everything we needed, it was cozy, comfortable, relaxing. We enjoyed the place and location very much. We were intrigued of how welcoming and pleasant the house made us feel. overall we would come back.
We had wanted to check out Alpine (art galleries etc, well worth it) after It became our grocery/lunch spot before driving the rest of the way to Big Bend a couple of years in a row. The house was close to everything and so cozy. Very clean and well appointed. We could walk to everything!
Absolutely loved this place. Cozy, very charming and loaded with hospitality. Went to Big Bend and explored the area. it was great coming back to this little place feeling like you were in a little piece of history. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy
Wonderful adobe house within walking distance of restaurants and shops in Alpine.
Property was in a great location to attend SRSU Football Game. Accommodations were clean & comfortable. We enjoyed the outdoor patio with table. Highly recommend this property.
Close to everything, beautiful home, great kitchen!
Enjoyed the stay. House was perfect for what we needed. Can’t wait to return
We had a wonderful time staying at this beautifully decorated home! It had everything we needed and was very clean! We highly recommend staying there. Great location too, we walked to the downtown restaurants and cute boutique shops. Thank you!
Everything about staying here was perfect. Location, super clean, comfortable, easy check-in and out. Enjoyed the decor in the old adobe - lots of history here!
The house was so cute! Perfect for a quick trip to the university or downtown.
We chose Alpine as our base for four days as we explored Alpine, Marfa, Ft. Davis, and Balmorhea. The home is located across the street from Sul Ross University where we walked in the evenings. The campus is beautiful and quiet. The home was clean and comfortable and had two different porch areas to enjoy. This was a great place for our family of three to call home for a few days!
Nice
We really enjoyed our stay. There was a problem with the a/c at the house we had booked and April was right on it. She had another location and everything worked out. Didn't see the Marfa lights but did see some birds. We would highly recommend staying at either of these properties.
This was our second visit to the Big Bend region and staying in Alpine has been a great central location. Parking is great, beds comfy and April was very attentive.
