Mountainside Lodge is located in the heart of historic downtown Harper's Ferry, and in the middle of Harper's Ferry National Historical Park. This one-of-a-kind vacation rental is located in a 2-1/2 story brick federal-period building built in the 1830's. The house shares the building with a family-style restaurant (The Rabbit Hole) and a very popular gift and jewelry shop, The Vintage Lady. The house was originally 2 townhouses, and the center walls were removed in the 1970s to create a large open space on the 1st floor. While the house's exterior painting scheme reflects this original configuration and looks like 2 separate units, the vacation rental spans both spaces (see photo). The building was used during the civil war by both Confederate and Union Armies, primarily as an infirmary/hospital, and is a stop on the Harpers Ferry Ghost Tour.

The first floor of the house features a large open living room/dining room, a full modern kitchen, 1/2 bath, and a large porch with fantastic mountain and river views and views of Harpers Ferry gap. The inside space features hard-wood floors, exposed brick walls, an exposed beam ceiling (many of the beams are original hand-hewn), and large windows looking onto the mountains and the Potomac River. There is a Roku TV with cable, DVD player, VCR, games and toys, and a 10-seat dining table on the 1st floor. A highchair is available upon request. In addition to modern amenities, the house is decorated in fantastic period antiques.

The second floor has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a laundry room w/ full-sized washer and dryer, and offers views of the Potomac River. The master bedroom has a Queen bed and a comfortable full-size futon (comfortable for 1 adult or 2 children). The second bedroom has a Queen bed, and the 3rd bedroom has a twin/full bunk bed (twin on top; full on bottom). The configuration is ideal for two families (4 adults and up to 5 kids), 2-3 couples, or 6-7 friends! All three bedrooms have TVs and DVD players and comfy sheets, mattresses and pillows.

The building sits atop a steep hill, and there are 65 stairs leading down to the 2 parking spaces reserved for the vacation rental in the rear of the building. The front-door to the house is at street-level, so door-to-door drop-off of luggage is possible.

A warm and comfortable home located in the historic district of Harper's Ferry. Lots do: hiking, walking, touring the National Park, dining.... The home had everything you need for your stay. Well appointed kitchen, books, games, and super comfy sofas and beds. Communication was really good. We're looking forward to returning for another stay.

The home was so spacious and clean. The quality of the bedding was very nice quality, bathroom showers were updated and kitchen had everything you needed. It was nice to have a large filtered water cooler in the kitchen. The location of this home could not be beat! Right off the main strip with a wonderful restaurant, The Rabbit Hole, right underneath. It is eactly as presented in the description, if not better! The hosts were helpful and communicative. An all around great experience!

Absolutely wonderful place. Youre not only staying in an historic town but the house itself is historically decorated. We were overwhelmed how large and nice it is. I highly recommend it.

The age of the home and location are the charm of this house. We enjoyed the over all stay. However, be aware that the water flow is poor and down to a drip at times. The washer has what we guessed was mineral buildup (possibly the cause of the pressure?) That in turn, is transferred to the dryer. We also had a small snake visit us in the down stairs sitting room.

The basics - clean, comfortable beds, well supplied with necessities, and excellent location.Phone and internet service and water pressure in the showers could have been better. How we felt about the stay - Absolutely loved staying in town. The house felt warm and welcoming from the time we opened the door. Without a doubt, this house had more “personality” than anywhere I’ve ever stayed! We loved sitting on the deck and started our mornings with breakfast there. The restaurant and trains just became part of the experience rather than annoyances. Being within easy walking distance of the historic exhibits as well as walking trails was great. Jill was a wonderful host. She responded quickly to all our questions to make sure our visit went smoothly.Loved every minute of the stay and look forward to coming back.

We had such a great family vacation in Harpers Ferry! The Mountainside Lodge was a beautiful historic home that had such character and it's location allowed us to walk to everything. Our family loved the beautiful view of the mountains and train from the lovely deck of the home! (We all just love trains so it was so ideal for our family to stay here!) The Rabbit Hole restaurant was right below and had really good food and drink! Jill was a wonderful host and answered all our questions. We had a very easy time checking in and the free parking was wonderful to have. The large living room area and comfy leather couches were so nice to come back to after full days visiting the historic sites, shopping and hiking. There's a nice sized kitchen that had everything we needed. The bedrooms accommodated all 7 of us adults and the beds were very comfortable. Thank you Jill for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! We will be back!

Our short stay in Harper's Ferry was improved by the convenience of the location of this home! It was right in the middle of the historic lower town with dining and hikes steps away. The home was spacious and clean. Our son commented on the coziness of the furniture and blankets. The beds were comfortable, and plenty of towels, pillows, and other amenities like Kleenex, toilet paper and paper towels made it so we didn't have to find a shop. The deck was large and a wonderful place to eat our dinner and enjoy the music coming from the Rabbit Hole (restaurant) below. The owner was very helpful with suggestions and prompt with communications. I sleep like the dead and didn't notice it, but my husband and son heard the trains that go by at night, the train depot is right across the street. Thank you again Jill for everything!

There could be no better place to stay in Harper’s Ferry. This house from the 1800’s is fascinating in architecture and decor of that period. You could spend a day looking at the pictures and antiques. It overlooks the train station, rivers, and town with a great balcony with views of all. A very good restaurant is below and a similar bakery next door.Step out the front door and visit local shops, the historical sites, or walk the trails along the river.Truly an incredibly unique place to stay. Will be back.

This property is ideally located in the center downtown with two dedicated parking spots (essential on busy fall weekends) that were also very convenient to the house. The large living space was perfect for our family to come together for breakfasts and evening game night. Our host Jill was amazing! We got super instructions, immediate responses to any questions and she accommodated us so much related to our travel times. The charm, warmth and history of this rental is quite unique and we would definitely love to return to leaf peep later in the fall.
