Both rooms come complete with: Nespresso coffee machine & tea making facilities, eco friendly toiletries by Walter Geering, dressing table with mirror & stool, Dyson hairdryer, Robert’s Radio & bathrobes.
Our stylish restaurant with its contemporary décor offers wonderful modern British and European cuisine to both residents and non residents – open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we offer an A la Carte menu.
We are also renowned locally and as far as Chester, Shrewsbury and beyond for our delicious Sunday lunches which, such is their popularity, have to be booked well in advance.

Our chic bar is the perfect place to relax. In these contemporary, yet comfortable, surroundings why not enjoy a cocktail, a meal, a coffee – read a book, enjoy the views or chat with friends or colleagues – we like to think that our bar pays homage to convivial congeniality and we hope you do too

Our magnificent function room can cater for wedding parties, birthday parties, anniversaries, in fact just about anything that you feel like having a party for! We are also licensed to hold civil ceremonies at the Sweeney.

Proving to be very very popular are our Exclusive Use Weddings – please feel free to call and enquire about this option or any other information regarding any function at the Sweeney.

Location: 2 miles from the historic market town of Oswestry, 17 miles from the medieval town of Shrewsbury and 25 miles from the famous Roman town of Chester – we are conveniently placed for all by road or rail. Manchester and Liverpool too are easily accessible by car. (Please note all distances are approximate).

Shopping and Entertainment – Both Shrewsbury and Chester are excellent for shopping and a few miles outside Chester is Cheshire Oaks – one of the country’s biggest outlet villages. Chester has its own race course and is also home to one of the UK’s best zoos.
The Sweeney is also 12 miles from Llangollen which plays host to the International Eistethfod each year.

A very warm and welcoming room, with the lights on and a radio playing music! It was such a lovely welcome. The room was spacious, light and warm. Unusual considering it is dog friendly. We often get the worst room with a dog in some hotels. Tea and coffee making facilities were very welcome after a long journey. The gentlemen on duty could not have been more friendly and helpful. Beautiful grounds. The breakfast was excellent. Absolutely lovely setting. Looking forward to staying again.

Despite staff saying to run the hot water tap in our room which had been purposely booked with a bath, there was no hot water after waiting more than 20 minutes. Was given two different rooms to shower in on the first morning as we were attending a function at the hotel. Second morning, still no hot water and was told that they knew it was a problem. We did receive a refund to compensate, but feel we should have been advised after the first complaint that it was an ongoing problem.

There is nothing bad we can say about our stay, the room was stunning with great views. The food was great, and to top it all very dog friendly. Would highly recommend.

Very clean, attentive staff, good facilities in rooms. Dining room makeover since our last stay very nice. Now with mobility issues the lack of a lift May sadly mean we won't be able to return.

The bedroom was fantastic, there was a bit of a mixup with our table for our evening meal. But it was resolved.

The location was perfect for our Hospital visit, especially as it is Dog friendly, our little Dog had to come with us. Our room was comfortable, and the staff friendly. The grounds and views from them are lovely, clearly very nice for shorts breaks in summer. Food in the Restaurant was freshly cooked, fairly basic standard, and service a bit chaotic due to limited staffing. We will certainly re-visit for our next Hospital stay,

A fantastic place to stay at this historic building. The rooms were clean and tidy and the meals were great. The hosts were very hospitable and helpful. The only observation I would make and it is not a complaint, that the building has no lift so it not favourable to and disabled people. But that has to be due to the age of the building, but overall a lovely weekend

There was an issue with the shower, however, management made every effort to remedy the problem. I found my stay there most pleasant with the staff ready to help. The location of the hotel is lovely too. I have visited there before and have always enjoyed my stay.
