Surry, Virginia
Thank you for checking out the home we lived in for 13 years. It is an 1800 square foot modular with 2 full bath and 4 bedrooms on 3/4 of an acre. We now have a queen bed in the master bedroom, 1 twins in 3 bedrooms. So we have beds for 5 people. We don't mind if you bring a few more guest and use the couch or bring your own air mattress. We actually have another bonus room for air mattresses or cots. NOTE: The hot water heater can handle about 4-5 quick, less than 5 minute showers. After that it gets chilly quickly and you have to give it close to an hour to catch up. Good luck:-)
***We do offer long term discounts for work or other needs. Please send an inquiry as we work on a case by case basis depending on your needs***
It has a master bedroom with its own bathroom and small walk in closet. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. Three other bedrooms have twin beds. Each room has closets and dressers.
It has a large front and back yard and is surrounded on 3 sides with forest. There is a fire pit you are welcome to use. We have chairs available and a limited supply of chopped wood and a limitless supply in the woods. Straight back from the house a driveway cuts through the woods, please do not cross the driveway. We live locally and are in the process of improving the property inside and out.
We welcome dogs for an extra fee. The fees are: 1 dog $20 per night, 2 or more dogs, $15 per dog per night.
The house does have a covered back porch to relax on and has a gas grill on it. The porch has a locking latch on it so you can leave your dog outside in a locked in area at night or while you're out and about. It DOES get hot even though its covered. There is a nearby spigot to give your dog fresh water. We do ask that unless your dog really sticks close by you don't let them roam free about the neighborhood for your dogs safety and consideration for our neighbors. Our closest neighbors to our right ARE fearful of dogs and we had to make sure ours were in our yard at all times. We have NEVER had fleas. Please do not bring dogs with fleas, PLEASE! Please walk them on a leash if they are prone to running off. We lost 2 dogs over the years that made it out to the road.
The house has central air and heat that will keep you very cool in the summer and nice & warm in the winter. PLEASE PLEASE do not lower the AC lower than 72 and if you're leaving for long periods of time please bump it up to 78 degrees. It will remain cool and you can bump it back down when you come back. You adjust the thermostat by holding the arrow in the direction you want to go until it blinks and then push it again the number of times needed. The fireplace/wood stove is temporarily out of commission.
WE DO HAVE WIFI NOW!!! Via a Verizon jet pack.
The kitchen amenities include full size fridge, electric full size stove and oven, large microwave, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, kitchen table, and a furnished living room with TV and DVD player. We do not have cable, satellite, at this time. We are trying to get an antenna that will give you a decent amount of local and national channels but we do not have that yet.
Williamsburg is a peaceful and FREE ferry ride across the James River. Our driveway is 1.7 miles from the ferry. You can Google Jamestown/Scotland ferry for the schedule. Basically, it runs every half hour but during peak hours it runs approximately every 20 minutes and between 8 pm and 5 am it runs every hour, at the top of the hour on the Surry side and bottom of the hour for the Jamestown side. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Museum and Settlement, Bush Gardens, Water Country USA, and tons of restaurants can be found just on the other side of the river. Virginia Beach is about an hour away as is Richmond. So, you can come stay with us and have a ton of places to visit in any direction while resting in our quiet comfortable place in the woods. About 10 minutes away is a 7-11, Dollar General, Chinese food place called Chens Asian Grill. We have an excellent seafood restaurant called Surry Seafood very close by as well.
The town of Smithfield, home of the world famous Smithfield Ham is about 20 to 25 minutes away. Smithfield has a Foodlion and coming soon, a Kroger. Smithfield is a quaint town and had several good restaurants and a brewery. The brewery is called Warfhill. Restaurants include Q Daddy's Pitmaster which is awesome barbecue. Smithfield Station which is a very good casual restaurant with great seafood and deck seating. There are a plethora of fast food joints as well.
There is a town about 30 minutes southwest called Wakefield and that town has a high concentration of antique stores.
We would appreciate your opinion as to how we can make your stay more enjoyable and comfortable. Please let us know and GOD BLESS!

The the property totally fitted the needs of our family five adults and one two-year-old there was more than enough space and the kitchen all the utensils the town is beautiful nestled in the most quiet sea side village town we enjoyed the ferry ride back and forth through Jamestown which has a beautiful scenic route,,
Nothing fancy but the privacy is worth it, we was visiting Williamsburg VA and its close private and really cool to ride the ferry.
My family and I (including our 2 dogs) had a great 2 night stay. It was peaceful and quiet and plenty of space. The owners were very accommodating and the quick free ferry ride to Williamsburg was awesome. Looking forward to future stays.
I was very happy with my stay. My father and I took a trip to VA for my nephew's wedding and my daughter ended up being a stowe away last minute. There was plenty of room to spread out. It was clean and comfortable. Thank you for a great stay!
Really great experience with a really responsive host. The property was in a great location and extremely accommodating especially for us having three dogs with us. Very clean and would recommend to anyone! Easy to get to Williamsburg and great for anyone who wants a private getaway.
Overall was a good experience and a nice country house.
The night of our arrival we were a bit thrown off by the SVU parked in the yard that we later discovered was being used for storage. As we entered the house we were greeted by very musky odor coming from the water damaged walls and ceilings in a few rooms in the house. After convincing my 9 year old that the smell was due to the house being shut up for a long period of time and agreeing to cover the bed with towels I was finally able to get to sleep after a 3 and a half hour drive. Woke up the next morning it was cold in the house so we cut the a/c before we left for the day we cut the a/c back on. When we arrived back that afternoon from a hot day at the park it was 86 in the house. I spoke with the property owner who let me know that other renter have expected this problem. He walked me through resetting the thermometer which fixed the problem temporarily until the thermometer programming cut the air off throughout the night. A/c is not cooling properly okay ..at least we have a ceiling fan so we can cool off enough to get to sleep.. nope the ceiling fan in the master bedroom didn’t work. No ceiling fan in the living room and no blinds in the windows created a complete hot box. No vents in one of the bedrooms so even if the air was working you wouldn’t feel it. Light switches do not work in several rooms. Receptacles in several rooms need to be replaced were so worn out that plugs wouldn’t stay in. Outside motion light doesn’t work which made for a very dark walk while trying to walk the dog. Pros Enjoyed the ferry ride it was a nice way to cool off after leaving the house. I am from the country so I am not above country living and went into this knowing this was an older house. I didn’t expect the Holiday Inn express but I didn’t expect the gates of hell either. If I had I would have brought a fan.
This is the perfect house for a Jamestown Williamsburg adventure. It's bigger then the pictures shown. Everyone had a place to unwind after a day out. We spend a lot of time on the back porch just watching the rain and nightlife. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your former home.
Let me preface my review to state that this is not a personal attack on Bill (the property owner). He was responsive to calls/texts, apologetic and refunded some of my costs due to an unacceptable issue we encountered. However, the reviews listed for this property are extremely misleading, there is no way an overall rating can be more than a 1 or possibly 2 stars. I rented this property according to the reviews and excellent overall rating for my 88 year old father, my sister, and myself along with my 2 small dogs. We knew this was an older house that needed updating. But according to a review left on *9/28/18 by Robert E., the issues he indicated are still present, well over a year later. There should be clear directions to the house, because it was difficult to find. There are two doors in the rear and it was confusing as to which door the keys worked on, instructions as to which door to use would have been very helpful. The house is apparently being remodeled, unfinished closets, switches that don't work, *missing outlet covers, *hole above the kitchen sink, mismatched lighting fixtures (shop light in the master bathroom and what appears to be an outside light fixture above the sink), a garden tub in the master bath which is very precarious to get in and out of plus cracked on one side, a slit in the master bath floor, *melted outlet in the master bath which is also not GFCI, *sagging and stained ceiling in the living room, extremely low toilet in the second bathroom and the vanities in each bathroom in horrible shape. It may seem like I am being harsh, but individuals are paying to stay in a home at close to the cost of a hotel room and it should not be in a state of disrepair along with the possibility of a fire hazard (i.e., melted outlets). I was very disappointed with what happened on the second day of our stay and my family and I were fortunate to find a hotel to spend the last 2 days of our vacation. Honestly, the homeowner needs to pull this house off VRBO until it is completely remodeled, this way he won't need to apologize and continue to refund money. The homeowner stated that we had Unrealistic Expectations, because the property was in the country. This still confuses me, because when you pay to stay anywhere, no matter the location, you should never experience so many issues. I hope Bill takes this review as constructive criticism because otherwise continuing to try and rent this house will be an ultimate failure.
Great location - Bill was very helpful with a small issue and very generous. We appreciated the time away. The kids enjoyed the playground out back and the short trip to the ferry -which was the highlight of every day. Can't wait to see the house with the updates that are coming!
