Cotuit, Massachusetts
Welcome to our historic home in Cotuit Village. Built by a sea captain in the 1850s and later owned by a cranberry farmer, our antique home was even once a bed & breakfast called The Salty Dog. Now you can enjoy the charm and beauty of this seaside community and experience Cape Cod living at its best as we list our house for rent for the first time.
We purchased the house in mid 2020 and have since worked to fully renovate every space into a bright and welcoming home. We have an updated kitchen with new appliances, quartz counters and a very large island that opens to a dining, family room and large side deck with gas grill. The family room has a large smart tv, baby grand piano, gas fireplace, powder room and a wall of sliders with access to the rear patio with fire pit. Just off the kitchen is the laundry room and a living room/library with stone fireplace. On the first floor you'll find the bright 1st fl master suite (Queen bed) with en-suite full bathroom and walk-in closet. Upstairs are two more comfortable and charming bedrooms (also with Queen beds) and a spacious renovated bathroom with luxurious soaking tub and separate shower. Amenities include central air, ceiling fans, a deck with gas grill, patio with fire pit, spacious outdoor shower, hammock and raised-bed vegetable garden.
The house is situated on Cotuit's Main Street where you can easily stroll down the sidewalk to watch the free summertime Cotuit Kettlers baseball games, grab your beach lunch or groceries from the Cotuit Fresh Market, borrow a book from the Library, or visit Ropes Beach and the town dock. A bit further down the road, but still less than a 5 minute drive, is iconic Loop beach with lifeguard/facilities and then the gorgeously natural Oregon Beach. Included with your rental is a beach parking pass that allows you to park at these three otherwise Resident Only beaches as well as any other Barnstable town beaches & ponds beyond Cotuit.
Despite the small town feel, when you are ready to explore you will find the convenient location to be less than a 10 minute drive to nearby Mashpee Commons for a wide assortment of great dining, shopping and entertainment. (Movie theatre and bowling for rainy day activities). Fifteen minutes in the other direction brings you to Hyannis and conveniences such as public transportation (airport/bus/train), Cape Cod hospital, and the Cape Cod mall and all the Hyannis Main street eateries and shops. We are just a short drive to historic Sandwich center and the whale watches and charm of Barnstable Village and Route 6A. At the end of the our road is the Cahoon Museum of American Art and the Cotuit Center for the Arts where you can see a show or view the latest art exhibit.
While on the Cape, we suggest planning a day to drive further out to the end of the Cape's arm to visit the artsy town of Wellfleet or experience the serene dunes and lively energy of Provincetown. Ferries to both Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are nearby in Hyannis and Falmouth. There are so many towns to visit along the Cape - each with its own unique appeal - try Falmouth or Harwich or Chatham. We are also near multiple trails for nature walks, unique local breweries, sea food restaurants and obviously an endless number of beaches to explore. We are happy to provide recommendations on where to go and where to eat during your stay.
We truly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home! The host was easy to communicate with and was very responsive both through the reservation process and prior to our arrival and checked in with us while we were there to ensure that everything was okay and that we didn’t need anything. The home is well appointed and had everything that we needed to enjoy our stay. The home is well located with easy access to the places that we wanted to visit.
Beautifully restored sea captain’s home! This home has it all, location, comfort, charming inside and out. The home owner was delightful to correspond with on our first visit to the area. We enjoyed the open concept kitchen and family room. The visiting wild turkeys in the neighborhood were memorable moments during our stay!
