**History of The Awosting Club**
In the mid 1950's John Atwater Bradley, then a graduate student, attended a conference in Cragsmoor, the site of a celebrated art colony not far from what is now the Awosting Reserve and The Awosting Club. The next morning at dawn, he went out for an exploratory hike and did not return until long after dark. Bradley hiked through evergreen and hardwood forests, along bubbling streams, roaring waterfalls and shimmering mountain lakes. He discovered an incredible wilderness like none he'd ever seen, populated by whitetail deer, black bear, fox, raccoons, bobcat and coyote as well as a natural aviary of hawks, peregrine falcons, owls, eagles and pileated woodpeckers. That day he fell in love with the Shawangunk Ridge.
The Bradley family still lives on the property, and after 50 years of sharing the property with educational organizations, schools, artists, writers, explorers, camps, family and friends, are excited to invite others to fall in love with the Shawangunk Ridge as John Bradley had over 70 years ago. Bradley's daughter, Camilla, and her family are keeping the Awosting traditions alive by sprucing up the camp buildings and platforms while maintaining the trails that have been used for decades for outdoor adventures: from sleeping to eating to playing to communing with nature in all her glory.
Wow! Clean, comfortable, great views!
My husband and I cannot stop talking about how our stay in the geodome was the best vacation we ever had. Firstly, our host(s) were some of the kindest and most generous people to communicate with. They graciously let us check in early and check out late to make the most of our stay. Secondly, the property, campsites and geodomes are immaculately kept and stunning in every sense of the word. Lastly, the peace and quiet we were able to experience was unreal. Other than our host, we did not see anyone else during our time on the reserve. The hiking was breathtaking and worth every step to see both an on property waterfall and we easily accessed Gertrude's Nose.
such a special gem! would do over a thousand times. beautiful scenorie, cool dome idea.
This is a excellent change of pace from the places me and my wife were used to. It was fun to experience nature and my pup enjoyed the experience as well. Everything was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable and the woman that helped us was extremely helpful and quick to answer any and all questions. I would 100 percent book here again.
Tent was nice and clean, the host was very responsive and helpful. Everything was beautiful
This was a great experience, 10/10! Would do it again.
We had an absolute blast staying here! It was a 1.5 day/1 night stay at this beautiful geo-dome. We are from nyc, so to walk out of the car and immediately hear everything in nature was so refreshing. Our host was fabulous, she gave us much needed recommendations for hiking and waterfalls, and she was just genuinely nice! We will be back (;
My wife, dog & I had a great time away. Can’t wait to go back!
My friend and I had a wonderful stay was a beautiful experience and Scott is very awesome and so helpful and funny. thank you so much for a fantastic time!
My husband and I drove down from Syracuse and spent the night in this beautiful Geodome. We both absolutely loved our experience. Neither of us are that into real camping, but we both love nature, so this allowed us to hike and feel surrounded by the natural world without sacrificing comfort and cleanliness. The property is immaculate, comes with all the amenities you would need and is comfortable and aesthetically beautiful. Scott has a great, vibrant personality and hand-delivered a thermos of coffee and muffins for our breakfast. Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway! We will be coming back in winter, for sure!
My Wife and I had a great time! Great getaway, the Domes are an amazing experience everyone should try! Scott was very welcoming and helpful. He suggested a close by restaurant named the Hoot Owl that was fantastic!! He took us to the Dome and also provided Coffee and Muffins in the morning. Definitely will come back again.
