**History of The Awosting Club**
In the mid 1950's John Atwater Bradley, then a graduate student, attended a conference in Cragsmoor, the site of a celebrated art colony not far from what is now the Awosting Reserve and The Awosting Club. The next morning at dawn, he went out for an exploratory hike and did not return until long after dark. Bradley hiked through evergreen and hardwood forests, along bubbling streams, roaring waterfalls and shimmering mountain lakes. He discovered an incredible wilderness like none he'd ever seen, populated by whitetail deer, black bear, fox, raccoons, bobcat and coyote as well as a natural aviary of hawks, peregrine falcons, owls, eagles and pileated woodpeckers. That day he fell in love with the Shawangunk Ridge.
The Bradley family still lives on the property, and after 50 years of sharing the property with educational organizations, schools, artists, writers, explorers, camps, family and friends, are excited to invite others to fall in love with the Shawangunk Ridge as John Bradley had over 70 years ago. Bradley's daughter, Camilla, and her family are keeping the Awosting traditions alive by sprucing up the camp buildings and platforms while maintaining the trails that have been used for decades for outdoor adventures: from sleeping to eating to playing to communing with nature in all her glory.
Host was amazing and communicative, grounds beautiful, delivered in every way shape and form.
Absolutely exceeded our expectations! This place is a true gem. Kristen greeted us at the gate and showed us to our amazing dome. She was so welcoming and accommodating. The dome was so cozy and the view was absolutely breathtaking. They have a great hiking trail on the property that led to an awesome waterfall. We will definitely be coming again!
We absolutely loved it. It was all that we thought it would be and more. We will definitely be returning. And the on site host was wonderful.
The property is gorgeous!!!! The dome is so unique, outhouse very clean. The property is beautiful. A short walk away is a waterfall and hiking trails. Kristin, our host, was so incredible. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to assist us with the trip.
If you're ready for an off the grid experience in the midst of spectacular scenery, this place can't be surpassed. It's in a drop dead gorgeous environment with plush interior and panoramic views. Be ready to accept no indoor plumbing (though a water cooler is provided along with a small refrigerator - there is electricity). This means outhouse, which is meticulously maintained but cold if staying other than summertime. The price tag seemed extravagant and we had a bit of buyer's remorse after clicking on the no-refund link, but after staying there we have no regrets about the money spent. One of the most unusual places we've ever stayed. Glamping at its finest.
We really enjoyed our stay. Already talking about the next one!
Scott is the BEST! Property is gated for added security. This was the perfect mix of luxary and nature.
This was such a great place to stay!! I had so much fun with my two boys (12 & 14). We visited and hiked around the property and also at Minnewaska State Park. We all had such a wonderful time. Great getaway place for a small family or just a couple!
My boyfriend and I came up to get away from our hectic schedules for a weekend. We had a wonderful time being surrounded by the lovely landscape and in such a unique place. We went to the town Pine Bush about 15 minutes away for food and had the best pizza at Tosco’s. Overall this VRBO was the best experience I’ve had yet!
Owners were nice, geodome was clean, spacious and quiet. Very relaxing getaway
A luxurious way to get out of the city and enjoy a little nature.
Lovely space.
This place is amazing! The geodomes are very cool. They are decorated nicely, and they are immaculate. Way better than even the photos show. Of course you are in the woods with whatever lives there, so keep that in mind. It was so cool to have the view, the deck, heat/air, a fridge, electricity, places to charge phones, etc. It was nice hearing the stream over the side of the mountain below. They even had bottled water, head lamps, flash lights, bug spray, umbrellas, hand sanitizer, towels, etc. Everything you need! Even the outhouse was clean and smelled clean. There was one other geodome nearby in the distance, which does not impact your stay or view. The caretaker Scott answered all of our questions and he is hysterical. He can take you from where you park your car right over the hill up to the domes in the ATV. Be sure you're driving a car that can navigate bumpy/gravelly roads and won't get stuck (esp. in winter). He can even make lunches and dinner for you and deliver it to the dome. This place is really awesome. Wish we had stayed longer and hopefully we can come back. Thanks!
The most amazing romantic gateway. The dome was impressive very neat and cozy. Will be going back very soon.
We had a lovely time and loved our stay! Highly recommend!
Wonderful spot; lovely dwelling; great host.
The geodome was very cute and spacious and we greatly enjoyed how nice Scott was. Grilling was difficult as we only had a mini lighter available for us, but otherwise we had pretty much everything we needed provided by.
