Your Hosts,

While only five of us were actually sleeping at the house, it was the gathering place for meals for fourteen and there was plenty of room. Very homey and comfortable. Will stay there again.
The house sits on the sound and every day egrets (large white seabirds) come home to nest in around the inlet out back. After a day at the beach to sit on the back porch and watch these birds come home to roost is quite the sight to behold. Very beautiful and relaxing. The home is well appointed with everything you need and very close to the beach. Short cart ride. Best house on the island.
We had a fantastic stay. The home was centrally located in Hatteras, and we took several walks through the nature park located next door. The house had everything we needed and was comfortable for our family. We would stay again!
Second time staying at this home everything excellent!! Thanks will be back!
Have been going to Hatteras for many many years and enjoyed staying at this location and would likely stay here again! Owner was exceptional and house was great!
Our week on Hatteras Island was absolutely wonderful. The house was well equipped for our six person family, which is two adults two teens and two smaller children. We had an amazing time being a short bike ride, walk or drive from from everything on the island. If you have an off-road vehicle you can obtain a permit for the week to park on the beach, which we found very convenient due to our family size. This rental was truly ideal for a nice get away by the beach, truly relaxing! Any time I come back to Hatteras this is where I would love to stay!
First time using vrbo- got lucky! Home owner was great, communicated abs answered all of our questions! Checked in on us a few times, the house is spacious, in a quiet area, close to the beach or in walking distance to local stores and restaurants. The kids used bikes in garage, went fishing, we played corn hole, and took walks by marina. I will say while in a nice quiet location. We also took the ferry to Ocracoke Island Other attractions we drove about an hour to Kill Devil Hills but was not bad! Stop on the side of road and check out the sand dunes- Lastly, everyone was friendly- we will definitely return
Clean, close to village services, plenty of room.
We typically stay in 2-3 VRBO properties per year and this was hands down one of the cleanest properties we have ever stayed in. As soon as we walked in it smelled delightfully clean! We had 2 families with 4 teenagers total and the room above the garage was the perfect mancave for our teenage boys. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need to cook up meals for 7. All the appliances are virtually brand new. The location made it easy to get to the beach, ferry, shopping, rentals basically anything you may need. Joel was the host with the most and readily available should you need any assistance. The cherry on top....the 20 white heron that roost around the pond in the backyard each night not to mention the 3 deer that wandered through one evening as well. If you want to stay in Hatteras Village, look no further. This is your place!
Herron’s Nest was perfect for us. Watching the birds fly into the trees surrounding the back yard pond at dusk is a truly unique experience. The deck was wonderful for morning coffee and evening chats. (You can hear the ocean, even if you don’t see it.) The house and kitchen were so nicely stocked. We really appreciated having the bikes, boogie boards, beach chairs, and even beach towels available for use. The house was very clean and comfortable. We were supposed to be a party of 10 and ended up being a group of six. This just gave us a little extra room that we enjoyed. The house is both tucked in from Rt 12, but central to everything. Some of us took advantage of the park trail and nice sidewalks for walking. Joel was a terrific host and we appreciated his laid back correspondence and suggestions about things in the area. Thank you for everything, Joel!
My wife and I booked our family vacation at the Heron's nest and could not have been happier. Joel was a pleasure to deal with before and during our stay. The house was perfect for our family - clean and accommodating with linens, washer/dryer and bikes to use. The loft room over the garage was perfect for our older boys. This was our first trip to OBX and we were glad to have rented in the less busy location of Hatteras. Situated on the Sound side, we enjoyed spectacular sunsets from the front yard of the house. The ocean was a quick walk (and even easier bike ride) to the boardwalk access, where we watched the sunrise and spent hours playing in the waves, hunting for shells and taking long strolls. Hatteras is an incredibly charming town with lots to offer - and the house was close to everything: food, shops, fishing, para-sailing, museums and incredible beaches. Our kids (six of them, ranging from ages 10 to 20) took full advantage of the available bikes to get around. We would definitely recommend the (free) ferry ride to Ocracoke island for a day. All in all, we had an incredible vacation and would definitely recommend staying at the Heron's Nest.
