Cowboy Cabin is a 1940s rustic cabin full of charm located in a peaceful area outside Red River, NM in Bitter Creek. If you want to avoid crowds and chill in the mountains, you won't find a more relaxing place.

OUTDOORS: The real treat of staying in the cabin is the sights and sounds you'll enjoy from the large covered deck or firepit surrounded by tall pine and aspen trees. You'll also be steps away from Michael Martin Murphey’s Rocking 3M Amphitheater; so close that you can hear the music while sitting on the deck! (But otherwise, you might not see a soul!) Be sure to bring your ROVs, as there is plenty of room for your ROV Trailer.

INSIDE: The older cabin is cozy but has just enough space to host 4 guests comfortably in 2 bedrooms. This kitchen has all the essentials, such as major appliances, pots, pans, dishes, bakeware, and utensils. If the weather doesn't allow porch-rocking, there is a satellite TV, books to read, games to play, and a fireplace to gather around. Other things you can count on: bedding, towels, gas heater, dressers, closets, and plenty of seating for four. This cabin is pet friendly so bring Fido on your trip, too! Ask the office about the non-refundable pet fee.

SPECIAL NOTICES

TINY BATHROOM! The cabin is very small, with a tiny bathroom. Access to the toilet and/or shower may be difficult if you are a larger-sized person.

PARKING: There is enough parking space for 2 regular-sized vehicles.

WINTER DRIVING: The house is accessible year-round, but roads can be snowy in the winter. We strongly encourage people visiting from December through March to have a four-wheel-drive vehicle with decent clearance (SUV, truck, etc.). Smaller vehicles without four-wheel-drive may do okay with tire chains or if snow has been light that season.

All reservations are subject to our rental terms and conditions and cancellations/refund policy. In the event of a cancelation, merchant service charges are non-refundable. If you have any questions, please reach out prior to your stay.

This is a non-smoking property. Guests must bring trash to town, wash all dishes, and close and secure all doors and windows as part of the check out procedure.

We had the most wonderful time. We stayed 3 nights. On the second night, we got a couple inches of snow. It made it so magical for our 6 and 9 year old. We were able to have a snowball fight and build a snowman. We skied for 2 days. The drive in was down a dirt road but it just added to the majestic of our stay. We highly recommend Cowboy cabin and plan to stay here again!

Nostalgic, comfortable and quaint. Very peaceful out at the end of Bitter Creek. Chipmunks were friendly.

Cowboy Cabin is a classic Red River rustic cabin. Know what this means going into your stay and you won’t be disappointed with this gem! These cabins, many built in the 1940s and 50s, reflect their time, and are exactly what we think of when we think about a getaway to a non-corporate mountain town like Red River. Other reviews focus on the bathroom, which, while small, was functional and actually surprisingly large for similar cabins we’ve stayed in. Beds were comfortable, kitchen was clean and well stocked with the basics, and the living room was comfortable. If you want a hotel experience, there are options in town. If you want a real mountain cabin, look no further. The reason to stay here is the location. Close enough to town for convenience, but away from everything in a very peaceful group of cabins. The wraparound porch allows for great enjoyment of the gorgeous setting. We even found some well-kept but little documented hiking trails nearby. The road up is rocky, but take it slow and watch for sharp rocks and you should be fine. We’ll definitely be back!

The cabin had everything we needed for our family of four for a short stay. It was convenient enough to Red River for skiing and dinners, but felt remote enough for quiet walks up the canyon. It should be noted that Bitter Creek road may require all wheel drive and AT tires during inclement weather.
