Cottage with private beach!

Fantastic little beach cottage right on the bay. Very clean and well organized with all the dishes, utensils and equipment we needed for when we wanted to cook at home. Lots of space for the 2 of us and i can see how a family with kids would be just as comfortable. We did have a little hiccup with the lock box code though it was rectified quickly. Great, safe neighbourhood and friendly neighbours. Loved our time here.

After a very long international flight, the White Whale was such a wonderful respite.. Outstanding communications with owner from start to finish..We will be back..We love the retro vibe of this part of Buckroe Beach

Just an outstanding property! 10/10. First off the location simply cannot be beat. You’re right on a private beach and it’s so relaxing and beautiful. The house is so stocked with thoughtful touches - forget your nightly tea? No worries, they have a selection! Forgot to pack dishwasher pods? They have some! Second the beds were comfortable and the house is deceptively large inside. Third, the neighbors are just super friendly nice people. You really feel welcomed. This is a true find and we plan to come back! Excellent stay.

We absolutely love this place. It's the perfect little gem for anyone who loves the beach. It's peaceful, the people are so friendly, and the actual house is nice and cozy. The house itself is perfect for our family of 4 and comes with all your standard appliances and home amenities. The beach access is cleared and flat for easy traveling (and a super short walk), and the actual beach is beautiful. We can't wait to go back!

The home was lovely and the neighbors were superb! So friendly. Loved watching all the wildlife, especially the crabs and birds. So nice to have a private beach and not have to worry about the public setting. Highly recommend!

Beach cottage with excellent location - private, comfortable, even comes with dolphins, crabs, and air shows daily. The strawberry moon was awesome - photo doesn’t do it justice.

What a fabulous location right on beautiful Chesapeake Bay. Bird watchers delight!

The house was exactly as described. The kids loved the beach and there was a pod of dolphins that visited regularly. It was a little off the beaten path but that was what made it relaxing. It's about 30-40 minutes to Williamsburg and VA Beach but there is plenty to do in Hampton Itself. If we come back to the area, it will be the first place we check if it's available.

The White Whale is in the perfect spot overlooking the Chesapeake Bay with a great beach for walking, sunning, digging, or just relaxing. It's a bit removed from the public park and beach so you have a lot of privacy, but with just a short walk - you can be at the park complete with playground and other amenities.The house has many places for relaxation and gathering - a deck overlooking the water (great sunrises), a front sunroom, plus three comfortable bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a wonderful great room for being together. The home is fully equipped with everything you might need including washer/dryer. There are also lots of extras for the kids to play with indoor and outdoor and a number of family games. Plus lots of off-street parking.The owner was very responsive, and easy to work with.The White Whale was the perfect place for a springtime getaway!

This place was ideal for our sister getaway. Having a private beach right outside the door was our favorite part. We had everything we needed and then some. The neighbors were friendly and helpful. They suggested that we eat at Fuller’s and we’re thankful that they did. Delicious! We also loved walking the beach at Grandview Nature Preserve. We hope to stay here again.

We found the property perfect for a grandparent, grandchild get away. Even though the weather was cool, with jackets the grandchildren enjoyed playing in the sand. The owner even provided two sets of buckets, shovels and sand toys. The house had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Also, it is located close enough to go to the zoo in Norfolk. We loved that we could walk right out the back deck to the water. We would consider going again.

The white Whale was everything promised. If was an idea location and lovely just to sit on the deck and listen to the noise of the water. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.

Property clean and as advertised. Location perfect with lovely neighbours. Please note, this is not a comment about the owners, this is about the property manager. The details stated we would receive access instructions 24 to 72 hours prior to our reservation. Having heard nothing 24 hours prior to our stay I posted a message on the VRBO message system. On the day of our departure from Washington to drive to property we still had heard nothing (Note the manager had been provided with 2 contact phone numbers for us). I then sent a text message to the contact number provided which was not responded to. I rang the number provided with no success and heard message stating that “Inbox was full and messages would not be received”. Consequently we set off from Washington with no certainty that our booking was secure and great doubts that we would be able to access the property. Just a bit worrying! Fortunately, we were able to contact VRBO, who were fantastic. They were able to obtain access instructions and set our minds at rest regarding the booking. Given our experience we expected contact from the manager to check all was ok and maybe an apology. Alas, nothing. My recommendation to the property owners (assuming they read this) would be to find an alternative manager to ensure your excellent property and prospective clients are given the attention and service they deserve.

We loved our stay at the white whale! Upon arrival, our first evening sunset provided cotton candy skies with a rainbow and lightening shows. Sunrises very were much enjoyed as well as early morning swims! Seashell hunting was plentiful. The private beach was immaculate. The waters were great for my 4-year-old grandson to learn how to boogie board and ride the waves, while we were not too far from VA Beach and my teenage daughters were able to venture off and experience the larger waves. Kayaking with dolphins was a huge success as the dolphins breached all the way out of the water, an amazing sight and so close. Fort Monroe was a great historical place to visit, so many stories to be told there. It only rained one day so we took advantage and paid a visit to the Air and Space Museum in Hampton. We tried to visit Cape Henry and the lighthouse, but they closed it down for the day when we arrived because of the high heat temperatures, so be sure to go earlier in the day. The carousel in Hampton was also a great landmark to visit. We dined at some great restaurants.....Surf Riders, Fullers Raw Bar and The Deadrise all provided excellent meals and service. The house was larger than expected and provided everything we needed, tons of towels and blankets, great water pressure, comfortable beds and great views from the house and the deck! It was so nice to just walk back to the house for a quick snack or lunch when spending the day on the beach! We will visit again!

The cottage is right on the beach in the Buckroe neighborhood of Hampton. The city has seen better days--restaurant options were limited but there were grocery stores nearby. The cottage had not been well cleaned before our arrival, and the house was in need of some basic maintenance, but overall, it was a good value for the beachfront location.
