This is a great house in a great location. Clean tidy rooms with plenty of space for ourselves and kit. We had a lovely stay, managing breakfast outside in the sun looking across the valley. The only minor downside was that whilst listed as having WiFi this is an additional extra. It's a shame the owner doesn't include internet in the cost of hire, as the suggested WiFi alternative is a tad flaky with limited connectivity. As a lot of places/activities refer to websites and send confirmation, directions etc on email, no WiFi and no mobile coverage becomes a minor inconvenience.
Chose this location as younger members wanted to tackle Scafell Pike. Grandparents had fun riding the Langdale bus between Dungeon Ghyll and Ambleside. Weather was reasonable so managed to do a few things we wanted to. Accommodation is basic but ideal if you just want to go off walking
generally good value for money although one bathroom for up to 6 adults is not really adequate. no complaints though.
Loved our stay! The location of the cottage was perfect: beautiful scenery, trails, sheep, coop, bakery, and pub all within close walking distance. Other trails and quaint villages are 5-30 minutes drive. The cottage has a well-equipped kitchen, easily sleeps 4 adults. The 3rd bedroom with bunk beds is on the lower level, 2 floors down from the bathroom and other bedrooms so it may/may not be ok for some children. No wifi (loved that!) TV didn't work but DVD player works great so we watched a couple movie.
We were really looking forwards to staying in a cottage with our toddler on his first proper holiday. When we arrived the place was freezing and it is not a cottage, it's a modernish terraced townhouse split over three levels. The interior and furnishings are shabby. The ground floor houses the garage and a basement room with bunk-beds and tiny slit window. It was absolutely freezing down there but our toddler was excited to stay in a bunk bed so we let him try it out. It was far too cold and he woke in the night upset and freezing cold so we had to get him up and move him into one of the single beds in the upstairs room and my wife had to stay with him to settle him. All part of the experience we thought until the landlady of this property then withheld our deposit because we had used more than three beds. In fact the landlady even accused us of having more people stay in the property! After explaining the situation to the landlady Caroline, she said she would 'split the difference'. No mention of extra charges based on the number of beds slept in was made prior, or anything at all to do with which beds we could sleep in and which we could not. I really couldn't be bothered arguing so I agreed to 'splitting the difference', and then the landlady even short changed me from that agreement by 2.50! My advice based on our experience is to find somewhere else to stay!
Great place, lovely house! Great location and the village is great too. There was 5 adults and at no point did we feel cramped at all. Haven't got a bad thing to stay about the place, we all loved it!
We had a most enjoyable stay in Chapel Stile. The house was comfortable, clean and well equipped, with easy parking and a great view. The third bedroom (with bunk beds ) is fine for children but not ideal for 2 adults. Friendly sheep came up and visited the front garden every day. The shop a few minutes away has everything we needed. Of course the setting in Great Langdale is exceptional , brilliant fell walking on the doorstep.
The property was clean, warm, and comfortable and had everything we needed. It was perfect for 3 of us. The location is wonderful, with great views and great walks from the door. There is a handy village shop open 7 days a week, plus one pub very close and another less than a mile away. No WiFi or phone signal, but this is usual in locations like this, and the digital detox did us good. It's a 10-minute drive to Ambleside for shops and restaurants, if you want them. Note that there is only 1 bathroom/toilet which might be tricky for larger groups, and no washing machine, but this cottage offers a good deal at the price. The owner is friendly and helpful.
The cottage was as described in the most beautiful setting I've ever stayed in. The views from the cottage were stunning and the walks are good - and straight from the doorstep. The village has good facilities including a well stocked little shop, which even sells basic walking equipment. You can get a good breakfast in Brambles cafe and they made up sandwiches for me and my family to take away for our walks. Wainwrights Inn is a nice cosy pub serving good food and we all enjoyed the roaring fire in the evenings. Caroline was very helpful and patient when we were planning our holiday, and even recommended local places to eat from her own experience. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and we were all very sad when it was time to go home. I would definitely recommend the property to friends and family.
Modern, spotlessly clean, superb location with parking 6 paces from back door/ off road. Ambleside, Wndemere & Bowness a relatively short drive with Grasmere a scenic route drive over the tops. Local pub & store/ cafe approx 5 mins walk from accommodation. For the more adventurous head up the Langdale Valley for low to high level walking &/ or rock climbing. Finally, the owner, Caroline is quick to respond to queries by e mail , although one may need to leave the valley base to obtain a signal.
