We come down every year to fish. This year hurricane Lee had the surf really rough so we didn't get to go fishing as much as hoped but we did have great weather all week.
First we couldn’t get the house because they gave us the wrong code. Then when we got in the place was dirty. Screen door is falling off the hinges and screen is torn. Back deck is old and not safe the nails are coming out. The beds are hard as rocks. The dryer didn’t work but they replaced it. We had to be moved when we noticed this place has RATS not mice RATS!!!
House is just as pictured - walking distance to stores and restaurants. The beach is roughly a 5 minute walk away. Has games and books to read on the rainy days, which came in handy for one afternoon
I'll tell you what I didn't Love. This house is infested with rats, not mice RATS. We could hear them in the attic every night and we saw several.
Our week at Avon started with a Gale and ended with a power and then internet outage. Thankfully, the house we stayed in was lovely, clean, and wonderful amenities! We were happy as the vast majority of our vacation was spent in the house - cooking meals in the kitchen, enjoying views from the upstairs seating area, playing card games, and a lot of laughing. Can't control the weather! One 57 year old mom, 2 20 somethings, and a 19 year old and we all managed to make it through the storm with fond memories. Looking forward to booking again. Hopefully weather will cooperate.
We loved the house so much room for our family of 5. Walk right to the beach. Only complaint was check in was at 4pm but house wasn't ready until 6pm. We drove all night from Connecticut so we were tired. But other then that house was great. House had plenty of dishes pots and pans. They also left dishwasher soap laundry soap. I would definitely book again.
Great home to stay in! Just a short walk to the beach which was so nice! Highly recommend!
Loved the area. All you could ask for in beaches, dining, and shops.
Everything you need a few blocks away. Not a touristy spot. Though very close to it when you want it.
This rating is more a reflection of the property management firm Hatteras Realty than it is of Offshore. That being said, the house does needs some upgrades. The good: Close walk to beach access. 4wd access ramp less than a mile drive. Nice views of sound and ocean on the top deck. The layout is great, Kids room and master room upstairs with a large living room. First floor has a full well stocked kitchen with dining table where you can hang out late without disturbing those sleeping upstairs. great layout if you have a group with you.... Large selection of games was nice. The bad: My biggest complaint doesn't have as much to do with the property as it does with Hatteras realty and way that they clean the rentals they're responsible for overseeing. The short of it, they don't clean the rentals. Window sills had what looked to be months worth of dust with dead flies/wasps on them that appeared to be there for ages. I felt sand sticking to my feet as I walked through the house, we pulled the vacuum out and took care of that ourselves.. Hatteras reality does provided clean linens but you can expect to use the same top comforter that the previous guests used which was unwashed as ours were covered in pubic hair. How am I certain they were not washed? well the dryer is likely 25-30 years old and is pretty much useless. If they did wash the house comforters it would take DAYS to dry them all. In all honesty, I'm certain that Hatteras reality housekeepers didn't even come into our rental prior to our arrival as the previous guests used linens were upstairs IN FRONT of the main entrance while ours were just left by the stairs on the ground level. They would not have been able to enter or leave the house without having to remove the previous guests linen bin. For the house its self... Offshore could use a few updates. Carpet is pretty disgusting. While I don't expect much for a full time rental, I'd say MOST of the carpet is stained covered and its ready to be replaced. Dryer is useless and you can expect even the smallest load to take all day. Again, I understand this is a rental, but I'd say the owners got their moneys worth with this 30+ year old dryer and its time for an upgrade. The beds are as bad as you would think... You can expect to have excruciating back pain if you're a side sleeper, after 2 days I drove over an hour each way up to the nearest mattress store in Nags head to buy a foam topper which helped, a little.
