Saranac Lake, New York
This lean-to is a classic Adirondack lean-to - it is situated just 25' from the water's edge of Kiwassa Outlet. The unique spot offers lovely sunset and water views. The site is a mile from the main road on a driveway shared by others. There are private homes in the area - unlike wilderness camping!
Lean-to itself will sleep 4 guests but feel free to pitch a tent for more occupancy.
Private outdoor shower is on the site affording our guests hot and cold running water just steps from the lean-to. The shower is ONLY for guests of the lean-to and it is not shared.
Included in the rental price is garbage removal placed in designated bins as well as parking for two cars.
What is an Adirondack lean-to
An Adirondack lean-to is a three sided log camping structure which provides overhead shelter. It's a 'step up' from camping on the direct ground.

We loved how private it felt while being so close to the village of Saranac! My only suggestion is maybe advising people to bring a garden cart/cart with wheels, the packing and unpacking process was a little daunting with the car being parked a short walk from the lean-to.
Everything we needed was provided for us except food of course. Very pleasant host and great atmosphere to enjoy our stay. We have already booked another weekend for oct. And look forward to it
Owner provides exactly what is offered, a quiet camp experience with all required amenities. Grab a canoe and explore!
Loved our stay at Mackenzies lean to. Very convenient location. Clean property. Loved having the dock right off our site to be able to go kayaking when ever we wanted.
We truly enjoyed our stay. Camp fire, s’mores, good fishing and a great base camp to explore the Adirondacks! Thank you!!
The site itself was very nice. Beautiful scenery, right on the water, access to a dock. The lean-too, shower, and outhouse were great amenities. However, please keep in mind that this site is owned by a larger cabin company, Cochan’s Cabins. Some of the information that is specific to the Cabins is not communicated until after you book (ex: check in is only from 2pm-7pm, the dock is shared with someone who parks their boat and walks through your campsite, the canoe/kayak rentals are $45 a day, the pet deposit is not refundable, there is another cabin right next to the lean-too, and there is a noise policy apparently). We loved the site but the property manager Margie and her husband were incredibly rude to us about our noise. We did have a generator (which I guess we weren’t supposed to have but never told we couldn’t) and Bluetooth speaker going during the middle of the day and the evening but only until 10pm. They demanded we shut it off and kept the sound down. They told us it was “too much” even though there were no people around us (the site near us was empty for the weekend fortunately). You could not hear us from the road, only from our site. I think they just saw a young group of people and assumed we were partying and being obnoxious, which we were not. It was very disrespectful and really gave us a really bad impression. Personally, I feel like the site is great, but with the price and property manager, I would recommend finding a different site if you’re looking for a fun weekend with friends that won’t have someone come over to your site and say you are “too much”
Location right on water, beautiful. Heavy power boat traffic at times, no swimming at site since water too shallow and mucky. Wonderful dock for small boat launch, star gazing, with morning shade. Lean-to fits 2 sleepers and gear, no bug problem mid-August. Adjacent tent site possible. Outhouse is pleasant, hot shower wonderful. 2-minute walk from parking spot to site. Owner available and very helpful. Great week spent here.
A traditional Adk lean to that is close enough to car camp and has a sink and shower. Waterfront site with lots of handy canoe routes nearby.
Easy to access, Margie was awesome, and the space was beautiful! I thought it was a great price for the location and access to running water. It was just a drive down the road from the town, which had grocery and restaurants. 10/10 would stay again and recommend!
This place met our needs well, I had 2 teenage girls and I wanted them to have a wilderness experience but knew they would not agree to come without a hot shower. My husband and I slept in a camper on the road which is a short distance away. It's a really beautiful site but they refused to use the shower anyway because it faces a cabin that is really close by and there is no privacy wall around the shower. The sink is also impractically small. For the price, the shower house should be improved, with a privacy screen and the sink should be under a roof and larger, that is why there are 4 stars instead of 5. It was interesting to have piping hot water in such a small sink - and I used the shower but had to dress in the wet inside without being able to sit down - this is really uncomfortable. Maggie was really nice and we had a good stay and might book again in future.
