I wrote a longer review on this previously but it does not look to be posting, so will keep this one shorter. Overall, the house has a ton of potential but really needs a maintenance and cleaning visit. Pros - Great location. Huge house for a big family, nice back yard. The guest house has a bedroom, pull out couch and bathroom which was perfect for an older couple who would have trouble with the stairs. Loved that we could see the bay from the front porch. Cons - It felt like half the stuff in the house was broken. Bikes have flat tires, beach chairs broken, dishwasher leaked, front rocking chairs all loose. There were not enough sheets for all the beds, nor pillows, itchy blankets. We reached out about the sheets and were not brought enough, did not hear back again. A lot of dust in upstairs rooms and in general, many dishes dirty. We are not a picky family and it almost got funny by the end of the trip when we found something else broken. The house is big, which is hard to find on the island, but the owners or management company really needs to inspect the place and make some changes for guest comfort.
We had a wonderful stay celebrating a family birthday. It was perfect for our group of 6 adults and a baby. We ended up not bringing our pup, but the yard would have been perfect. The views of the bay are beautiful. The home is a classic Chincoteague home, so it is 100 years with the quirks that entails. We found the kitchen and grill great for cooking for a bug group. We look forward to staying again.
Overall our stay was great! 20min walk to downtown area, plenary of space for 10 people, and a large backyard to hangout in. When we got there the keypad to the main door didn’t work but there was a key that we were able to use. It said linens were included however none were left for the cottage house bed, but we were able to find blankets to substitute. Overall the place was lovely!
We really enjoyed our stay in this classic home. It is a 100+ year old house, so the layout and design are of that time. If you understand that, you should enjoy the home. The location and yard are highlights. Great views of the bay from the main house. Water access across the street is nice, (no dock, just a path). The yard is large and fenced in. We ended up not bringing our dog, but the fenced yard would have been perfect. We also enjoyed the gas grill (there's also a charcoal unit if you prefer). The inside was typical for an 1901 Chincoteague home, comfortable for our rather large group. We'd definitely stay again.
The property was charming and spacious but needs proper cleaning and upgrade. The kitchen utensils were dirty and worn out. Heating system did not function properly and we found it very uncomfortable. The guest suite is fully detached from the house and was not cleaned at all. The access to the gust house was really dark and st The back of the house. We ended up not using it. The bathrooms should be upgrades. We still managed to have a good time since it was a nice cozy home with a good backyard space.
We were in town for a memorial service and stayed in Chincoteague Charm. We are regulars in the area and I’ve always wanted to rent one of the original island cottages. This property is aptly named, we found it extremely charming. It is an older property and we found it wonderfully “quirky”. The kitchen was very well appointed,. We loved finding original hardwoods, narrower stairs and painted wood floors upstairs. As is typical of older homes, you have one shared bathroom upstairs, no master bath. There is a sink in the second bedroom and a second potty downstairs in the laundry room. Though we were there in November, the weather was very mild so we were able to thoroughly enjoy the wonderful outdoor spaces! Our retrievers loved playing chase in the expansive fenced yard while we relaxed with coffee on the swing in the gazebo. There is also a very nice rocking chair front porch. We found this property clean and very accommodating. Just keep in mind, it is an older home so it can’t be compared with a “new build” and all of its modern amenities.
We can highly recommend Chincoteague Charm for a stay on the island. It's close to the downtown area, right across the street from the water, has a huge fenced backyard that our dogs absolutely loved, and is the right size for a small family vacation. The beds were comfortable, had plenty of towels, and had a well-stocked kitchen. That said, the non-stick frying pans are almost unusable and really should be replaced. The only other issue we had was that the ice maker did not work, but there are plenty of trays to use. All in all, it was a very nice place that we would not hesitate to revisit.
This house is so filthy dirty I will be reporting it to the local health department. There is black mold growing in all the vents, filters, and window sills. There are thick grimy balls of dust everywhere including on top of furniture, on ceiling fans, and on the floor and on anything at that floor level. It is an old house so the large chunks of paint torn off the walls appears to be lead based. When we arrived the house wasn’t clean from the last group because beds and linens were in corners of rooms on the floor. Mattresses had urine stains. The house smelled so bad my eyes burned and my throat was sore. Vrbo should not be advertising this place. One day, a child or elderly person is going to be staying in there and have an asthmatic attack.. Shame on the owner, and anyone responsible for permitting this house to be rented and for stealing the money of unsuspecting renters who were stuck in an uninhabitable dump of a house . I hope vrbo does better checking up on their houses in the future. I am unlikely to return to this untrustworthy website. VB Westfield NJ
Upon arrival we noticed the house needed some updating. The pictures on the listing must be from a few years ago as things were different. House was not fully cleaned as the upstairs had not been vacuumed and there was a lot of dust on the first floor. I would recommend bring your own linens as they need updating as well. Toiletries were not provided and anything that was left was clearly from the family before. When we contacted management mid week we received no response. Plenty of towels and great yard for the dog. The air conditioner is clearly controlled but an outside source as it was shut off during the day and would come back from the beach to a hot house.
Delightful older house with all the modern conveniences. The fully fenced yard was great for our dogs to run around in. House was very easy to find and close to town.
This house was just right for our adult siblings get together. There was plenty of room in the kitchen to cook as well as hang out with each other. We had a rainy week, so this was the main gathering area. We all also had our own rooms, so could spread out as needed. The big windows and white painted walls made it bright and cozy as well. We basically had what we needed for our cooking needs. The additinal cottage was bigger than expected and worked out well too. The nice, fenced back yard was great for our dog too. We were only a 10 minute drive from Assateague and we took advantage of that almost every day. There are plenty of towels, blankets , etc for everyone to be comfortable. We enjoyed our stay very much!
