Other than the sounds overhead from the upstairs suite this property is peaceful and serene.
The booking being occupied when we arrived. After we entered the unit, we found other people's possessions and were soon followed in by the owner of these possessions. He said he had a confirmed reservation for the property and spoke with the owners when he arrived. We spent over an hour on the phone talking to Vacasa. It turns out the tenants who were renting the main house had occupied the basement unit that we had reserved, since there is a staircase that connects them. We were told that once we enter the unit we could lock the door to the stairs that went upstairs, but we couldn't because we didn't have the key. About an hour later some people arrived to clean the unit, and they told us that the key was in the main house. So even if the upstairs tenants hadn't entered the unit that night and taken it over, they could have entered it any time during our stay. This was incredibly distressing, and is a safety issue. This situation could have easily become hostile dangerous, the tenants were outside and saw us enter the unit, and immediately followed us in and confusion ensued regarding the booking. The host refunded some of the fees, I requested one of the nights be refunded due to the safety issue and the impact on our stay. They ignored my texts ever since. I tried Expedia, since that's how I found the property, but I was told they couldn't help because I didn't contact them within 24 hours, even though I contacted Vacasa since they were the number listed on the booking.
Some items to consider including: Pitcher Ice Trays Full length mirror Iron/Ironing board Rug/mat inside to allow place to remove shoes/control tracked in debris Additional lighting on the path from parking area to lower apartment Lovely stay - expected to be able to hear the people upstairs and the Navy jets. However, I did find it surprising not to find a thermostat dedicated to the downstairs unit. Thanks--
Good location near Coupeville. Lower unit was clean but minimal and comfortable. Parking was tight Biggest issue was Navy jets at all hours with noise factor at high levels. Beach was accessible w 5 minute walk. Not direct access as we thought from websites.
We loved the property...it has a great view, bed was comfortable and books and games were available to use if needed. It was easy to get to town for groceries, shops and restaurants. Our only complaint was our parking spot. If all 4 spots were used, we would not have been able to get out. It was difficult with just one other vehicle there.
Very comfy bed in a clean basement apartment. Our 3 year old slept on the pullout single bed. We enjoyed spending Christmas in Coupeville with my best friend and her family.
Wonderful location to check. Really clean, they changed out the hot tub water while we were there and it wasn’t even out of service, nice 102 temp by evening. Overall very pleased.
This basement 1 bedroom, can be a great place to stay, if the it were cleaned properly. When we arrived, we noticed the comforter was not clean, so we pulled back the sheets. They were dirty, went to replace them, but the next set had blood stains, we continued to look, finally found a clean set. We made the bed and bought a new comforter. The blue couch pictured is awful smelling. We placed sheets on it and did not sit on it. Don’t look up, we did and were surprised to see not just 1 or 2 dead bugs in the light fixture but a dozen. The hot tub did not look safe to use, very cloudy and strong smell of bleach. We were discouraged by this unit but hope this review finds the right set of eyes to address the cleanliness of this unit. It can be so cute, if cleaned and smelled better. There are better places to stay.
Comfortable bed. Cute space. Great view and hot tub and lots of games. Nice location
The setting and view.
Peaceful property, hot tub, ocean views
The view is good!
Our first night was awful. My husband was sick. The people upstairs paced all night. You could hear everything. I had to finally go upstairs around midnight. Parking is also a little sketchy. Especially when cleaning crew pulls in and blocks you. Gravel walkway treacherous when it is raining. The unit is darling. Location beautiful. But the noise level would prevent me from ever returning. I actually would like a refund of some type.

It turns out the tenants who were renting the main house had occupied the basement unit that we had reserved, since there is a staircase that connects them. There was a significant delay while this was sorted out. We were told that once we enter the unit we could lock the door to the stairs that went upstairs, but we couldn't because we didn't have the key. About an hour later some people arrived to clean the unit, and they told us that the key was in the main house. I tried seeking help from Expedia, since that's how I found the property, but I was told they couldn't help because I didn't contact them within 24 hours. I assumed contacting Vacasa was sufficient, since they're who expedia goes through, but I was wrong. I tried contacting Vacasa again about all this and got an email saying they would forward it to their local manager. Overall the clear lack of concern for our safety and our experience overshadowed the entire experience.
Easy and peaceful. All the amenities you need and felt like no one was there. Will definitely come again
Secluded and beautiful little stay in the Octopus den! We lucked out as I believe we were the only couple renting in the property so it was a very nice stay. Had the jacuzzi to our selves and no noise above us. Recommend captain whidbey for dinner, beautiful little restaurant!
Quiet peaceful and relaxing
This property is located in a tranquil residential area not far from the charming town of Coupeville. We used this as a base for a week of exploring the island by bike and found the central location worked perfectly for a variety of biking loops, with or without a car*. Coupeville has multiple great options for lunch and dinner but you’ll also find the kitchen reasonably serviceable for self catering and the back garden is a lovely spot for a casual outdoor meal for two. Walkers will also enjoy the short, paved stroll down to the bayside beach below the house. This is a great spot for R&R. *Beware that the steepest hill you’ll find on Whidbey is the one you’ll have to climb up to the main road as you start each day. Makes for a fun finale though!
