Charming Burt Lake Cottage

This house is a great location for our visit to Burt Lake. Our main comment is the old mattresses, pillows and bedding. The house needs a total refresh in that department! Also, the lighting in the house is inadequate. We stayed here last summer too. Because of the location, we booked it again. It’s a sweet little cottage, but needs attention.

Being on the east side of the lake, we had amazing sunset views every night. It is very close to Hoppie's Tavern, which had awesome food. The house is not far from Indian River, where we were able to rent a boat. The house was very clean and had ample space for all of us. It appears that updates are being made on the house. The master bathroom was very small. There was no counterspace at all. We were not allowed to open windows since some were very old and could get stuck. I would have liked to open up the sunroom since we spent a great deal of time in that room. Overall, the lake front location made it an amazing trip.

Upon arriving we were surprised to find six steps leading down to the house entrance. The drive is partially hidden from the road so when driving out,visibility is poor.Then there is the bugs. The previous renters complained about ants so the exterminators arrived on our second day and we were told to leave for several hours while they sprayed. We covered as many of our belongings as possible but I think spray hit may have hit some items. Next day a different type of bug was running about.I had never seen anything like it. One was crawling on the wall in our grandsons room.Numerous cob webs on the outside of most windows.

The cottage is very charming. Loved the character. Although beautiful, the wood counters in the kitchen are not a practical choice with trying to keep them dry. Future renters should be aware they will need to bring all condiments needed. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Real plates and cutlery. All this plus air-conditioning which was helpful during the very humid weather that came through while we were there. This trip was a family gathering that brought the families of my brother and I to northern Michigan to visit and enjoy again a place where we spent a lot of our childhood summers, learning to swim, fish, hike, boat and just generally grow up in a the Midwest. Burt Lake is moderately more developed from when I used to go there, but it's still quite pristine and we enjoyed a day on the water with a boat and the lake pretty much to ourselves. Not too easy to find that anywhere.All in all a great summer vacations for anyone looking to relax near the water and relax as a family.

This Burt Lake cottage was absolutely perfect! Spacious for a small family. A modern, cottage-style kitchen complimented the rest of the home. Keeping the feel of a homey, quintessential cottage was exactly what we wanted. The kitchen was stocked and property management was engaged throughout our stay. Looking forward to our next opportunity to rent this property again.
