Charming 3-bedroom house in Monticello. Just a short walk to Indiana Beach.

House was a great location if you are visiting Indiana Beach. Literally a 3 min drive right around the corner from the main entrance. Less than 10 mins away from groceries and fast food to south. Owner was pleasant, but communication was not great. Messages through VRBO took over an hour or over night to get a response. I tried calling the owner twice and the call was declined immediately both times. Owner called back 3-4 hours later only because I mentioned the dishwasher was full when I arrived. Seemed quick to end the call, never asked about my stay and assumed everything went well. Check in was simple. Check out was simple. Wifi was good. The water in the house STINKS, likely well water. An adult was taking a shower downstairs and I could smell the water in the upstairs bedroom. You could smell it all across the living room and kitchen too. Everytime you would use a sink or wash your hands it would stink. They had a water leak several days before our stay, but they did a good job of cleaning it up and making temporary repairs so we could stay. The damage didn't really affect our stay. The 4 boys (11-14yrs old) stayed comfortably in the room with 2 twin beds and a full size hide-a-bed. Plenty of TVs around the house.

The house did not look like the pictures on the listing, and there were some major problems going on here. First of all the homeowner messaged me the evening before our trip and said there has been some damage done to the house and it was only cosmetic issues. When we got there, we found that the whole ceiling in the dining room and half of the ceiling in the living room was completely ripped out and gutted with some sheer covers on the ceiling that did nothing. There was plywood on the walls in the dining room, and that was also covered by a sheer sheet. No light in the dining room because there was no ceiling. There was a major water damage in this house and it should not have been rented out in these conditions. The house was not very clean, there was hair in the bathrooms on the sink and in the bathtub. The light in one bedroom did not work, and the closet doors in the bedrooms were off the tracks. The carpet upstairs was ripped out and only temporary carpet tiles were replaced. The old broken toilet was left outside on the front porch, not very attractive.
