This property is pretty good but communication with the owner was delayed at first until VRBO was contacted. Owner was informed of burned out light bulbs and stained rugs - only response was to want pictures of the burned out bulbs. Kitchen was missing important items like dish towels, dishrags, trivets, and hot pads. In addition cutlery was minimal. We choose to stay in this sort of property because we want to be able to cook meals but this seemed only half prepared.
We chose that property because it was near our daughter and granddaughter. The house needs some TLC. Many things needed to be fixed. We provided a list to the maintenance number listed. Definitely needs more than the one kitchen towel that was provided. There was not a single pot holder in the kitchen. With all the rain on Sunday the ceiling in the bathroom started leaking. Overall the house was comfortable and located near our daughter.
Very nice and updated interior
The property was very clean, easy to find and easy to get into. It was open and airy and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was nicely stocked and everything worked (stove, coffee maker, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave). We enjoyed our short stay and highly recommend it for anyone needing to visit the area. IT was a great value.
We really enjoyed our stay and the location is very close to most everything in Durham. In a working class neighborhood I’m sure a lot of them are renters but the accommodations are great just like the pics. We have family in town and we were able to get where we needed and had an excellent place to come to at the end of the day. Neighbors were friendly. Lawn care is lacking but all in all I would stay here again. Great value.
We stayed here to visit friends and had a great experience! The house was a good location for a lot of activities in Durham. The house was clean and comfortable and the neighborhood was quiet. Would definitely stay here again!
Very clean, smelled great, and comfortable. All the little touches and finishes were excellent like coffee, tea, shower gel.
Attractive, well appointed bungalow at a location that served us well. Very clean. Excellent bedding. A bit odd that there is no dining room or kitchen table for group meals, but we made do with the kitchen bar and would have enjoyed the nice outdoor space more had there been cushions on the metal chairs. Our stay was negatively influenced by the fact that the air conditioner did not work. The house was shut up and a sweltering 85F when we arrived. When we called for help, we were connected to an agency in California and after being put on hold for a while, were told where to find the thermostat---duh! And then told the AC must be working since no one else had reported it broken. And then told they would work on fixing the issue. After a misrably hot night (thank God for the ceiling fans!) I called the agency in the morning only to be told again where the thermostat was located! Finally was told they would work on getting local help and would be in touch, yet to this day have never heard anything! Fortunately the weather turned cooler for the remainder of our stay and we survived with the windows open (even though some had no screens). I suppose by now the AC has been fixed, though I'm sure the guests arriving the day we left had more of the same trouble. The big takeaway for us was that this was not the VRBO experience we have come to expect, where the local owners go above and beyond expectations to make our stays comfortable, and add their own personal charm to our stays. Our communications and meetings with many owners at previous stays stand out as a big part of why VRBO is so neat. Here the owner was totally absent, and the managing agency was corporate and not at all in touch with what was happening at ground level. Going a bit further I would say the house felt like it had been converted into a vacation rental and that no one would ever actually live there...in the way a hotel room is not a home. Are we seeing the future of the vacation rental business here---houses bought up by corporations and turned into hotel rooms managed by distant agencies, with no personal touch? Sad! Having PJ the owner's face associated with this bungalow felt like false advertisement. All that said, I wouldn't discourage you from giving this place a try, just cross your fingers the AC (and everything else!) works while you're there!
