You need to be careful with the marble floor, slippery with wet feet, and strongly advised to take care of carpets, furniture , etc. , around the pool with wet bathing suits. Ladies are also kindly advised not to use bath towels to wipe their make-up
We had 11 people at the house at it was perfect.
Casa de la Gobernador de Cuba is a lavish historic mansion set within the heart of historic Jerez. The home has good proximity to local points of interest, shopping, restaurants, etc. It makes a great base for learning about the city and region. But it also stands on it's own as a marvelously preserved and maintained historic resource. The grandeur, atmosphere and historic ambiance of the residence can't be overstated. These aspects aren't easily captured in photos. It has a resonant style and scale of a bygone era. It's very evocative. The home holds an impressive collection of art and antiques. Tapestries, paintings, sculpture & artifacts abound. Our family of six spent a week here. It was terrific. An elderly relative with limited mobility was happy with her main floor accommodations. The owner was highly attentive, making sure that she was comfortable. Rooms are spacious and elegant. The dipping pool was used frequently, as was the dumbwaiter. The residence was constructed to ventilate quite well, even during warm July days in Andalucia. Jerez gets a pleasant ocean breeze on many days. Carlos, the House Manager, was able to answer the questions that inevitably arise when one is occupying another's residence. And he did our laundry, which was appreciated. The owner was prompt and informative when asked for suggestions regarding regional dining options, etc. Our stay was very pleasant and memorable.
Firstly it was a privilege to stay in one of the traditional Palais’ of Jerez. Unfortunately the house hasn’t been updated or modernised in some time which is a shame considering the potential it has.All appliances need updating ,the fridge in the outside kitchen did not work and has not for some time. AC is badly needed throughout the house particularly in the temperatures Jerez often reaches. All the shutters were closed in an attempt to stop the heat getting in which results in a dark musty environment. The foliage around the pool and outside garden are unkept and with filled with insects … ants are everywhere, even in areas where there’s no food. There also seems to be confusion surrounding its listing as an ENTIRE house to let. Carlos the housekeeper is mentioned in the description but we assumed he’d have his own entrance , this however is not the case.In effect you are sharing the dwelling.Carlos I must say however is a lovely helpful man , we just didn’t expect to be seeing him coming and going throughout our stay as we value our privacy. On the plus side , the WiFi is good and the house is charming if a bit faded.
interesting home, filled with antiques. It was a bit musty, but should be noted that we stayed during an heatwave, with lots of humidity. perhaps in the cooler months this would feel more cosy, unfortunately for us, it was hard to enjoy as the temperatures were so warm inside and outside. there were lots of bugs - again, likely due to the weather. The housekkeper, Carlos was lovely. He helps with laundry and parking cars in the garage. Very kind. Jose Maria was very responsive via whats app as well. becasue of the heat, we didnt really use the space as intended, whcih was meant to be a gathering place for our large group. Instead we preferered to be outside in the breeze. if you are a fan of antique homes, you will enjoy this beautiful & historic home very much.
Exactly as listed. Excellent location, super host. Had Carlos cook paella for us twice it was so good! Can't wait to make another visit. Thanks Jose!
Loved every minute of our stay, excellent location, beautiful palace
A dreamlike location in a palatial residence bursting with character, on which the owner has evidently lavished a lifetime's artistic and architectural tastes steeped in Andalusian history and culture.
From the moment we walked into the property we fell in love. music playing in the background, the sound of the fountain running into the swimming pool and Jose & Carlos to greet us. After a welcome tour of the house filled with beautiful furniture, wall hangings and ornaments , we sat and had our first ( of many) sherries and Jose talked about places of interest to visit and recommendations for tapas. WiFi was excellent. Hot water plentiful, showers good, and it was cosy and warm . We found the kitchen to work well for preparing meals and when we needed extra oven space we used the outside kitchens oven and brought the food up in the dumb waiter. All good fun! Jerez itself was alive with Christmas Cheer and filled with charming streets and alleys to explore . We had a supermarket literally across the road for all basic items which was very handy. The market was excellent for fresh fish, meat and vegetables and all the stall holders were really friendly coping with our poor Spanish ! sign language worked wonders ! For those fitness fanatics , there was a decent gym by the market too which allowed some of our party to join for the duration of the holiday. The indoor pool is small but deep so good for swimming a few lengths, not for the faint hearted as it was a bit cold. We enjoyed it though. I can imagine in the summer time , using the outdoor space too it would be amazing. Carlos was lovely , on hand if we needed anything, very very discreet. All in all 10/10
Lovely villa. Great location. Helpful owner.
We spend 6 days in Jerez as part of a family celebration. The villa certainly didnt disappoint and Jose met us and gave us some great information on the Villa and also things to do in the surrounding area. The villa is very close within the Old town, so made it easy to access some lovely restaurants and also the shopping districts. It was also perfect loaction to visit Cadiz and surrounding areas.
