Homer, Alaska
Caribou Meadows is in a beautifully private but accessible setting, it has new and antique furniture throughout, along with full furnishings to make your visit enjoyable and rewarding. Both the main bathroom and master bathroom have been completely retiled and remodelled with Caribou motif, while maintaining original post and beam style. The well system has been improved with a two filter system and is fresh and pure. This cabin is immediately adjacent to the owners family homestead (the Kilcher homestead). It was hand built on the site of one of Homer’s original homesteads, by a young woodsman as he was starting a family in Homer. His craftsmanship shows in the original wood structure details throughout the house. With three bedrooms, a sleeping loft to allow for larger parties, two bathrooms, and a modern kitchen, but with more than a trace of Old World and homestead styling, this is a unique and memorable vacation spot. The wildlife in the immediate area is abundant, with moose, eagles, sandhill cranes, porcupines and many others. The cabin is sited in a beautiful meadow, surrounded by forest with room to roam. From the cabin, you can see beautiful Kachemak Bay and the mountains across the way.
The cabin provides modern amenities, has ample space and is a beautiful spot for a family to stretch out and use as a base of operations to explore both near and far. This cabin sits alone on a 10 acre plot 11 miles out East End road but has ready access and is close to the amenities at Fritz Creek (mail, gas, groceries, world-class restaurant and wines and spirits). In the area and beautiful town of Homer is halibut and salmon fishing, the Pratt Museum, galleries, restaurants, groceries, horse back and ATV tours, kayaking, glacier and bear viewing, air tours and much, much more.
It is also within walking distance of a historic site of rich significance, where I grew up with my father, an early Alaskan State Senator and mother a writer, singer and poet and my siblings, in the austere 400 square foot homesteaders cabin - the Kilcher Homestead. Easy access to the Kilcher Family Homestead provides over 600 acres in which to hike through to the beach via one of only three beach access sites outside of Homer.

Beautiful property, quiet and tranquil. Loved the location and the historical significance of the property.
Nice place to stay in beautiful location. Bedrooms are upstairs, but main bath is down stairs. Everyone staying there must be able to handle stairs.
We had a wonderful time. The home is absolutely beautiful with stunning views and all the special touches that go above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be back!
This is a must stay property. A moose walked across the yard to in any particular hurry. Also a porcupine graced us with their presence. Peaceful, tranquil and utterly impressive. Come and stay. You will not regret it.
We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Caribou Meadows. The home was spacious, comfortable, well equipped, extremely private and quiet, and really felt like being in Alaska. Moose wandered through our yard on multiple mornings and evenings and Sand Hill Cranes visited us daily. It was the perfect place for our family while we spent time in Homer and the surrounding area. Would highly recommend to friends and family! Hope to come back again someday.
A beautiful place to stay outside of Homer. We saw moose walk across the lawn on two occasions which was so fun!
We had a great stay. The property was farther from the Homer Spit than we would have prefered but that was not a huge issue. We enjoyed the privacy and the wildlife.
We really enjoyed our stay at Caribou Meadows. This is a great spot if you're looking for something a little more remote yet still an easy drive into town and the spit. All the basics were provided making it move in ready and felt just like home. Great views with a nice hike down to the beach. Catkin was very responsive and quick to address any questions during our stay.
Beautiful home in tranquil location with stunning views. Nicely appointed with comfy beds. Greatly enjoyed the family of moose strolling through the backyard in the mornings! Hard to find though. At the end of the dirt road is a sign saying Private road keep out on a gate. No exactly welcoming. We had to call the owner who explained how to enter the premises. The other annoying thing is that we were expected to take our garbage to the local dump to dispose of. Not to mention we were asked to to start a load of laundry of towels and sheets. I get there are house rules, but why am I paying a fortune for cleaning when I did half the work?
Beautiful property secluded , quiet , lovely accommodation and many little extras included . Nice walking areas with wildlife ( moose ). Had a small problem finding the site but host found us and got us oriented . Need a sign and number or arrow on the main road.
Beautiful location! Everything we could possibly need was avaliable to us. We will definitely return.
This cabin was perfect for our group. The location and view really added to our experience in Homer. Catkin was available and so sweet, ready to answer all our questions and even gave us a bit of education.
The property is beautiful as is the view. It is very well equipped for a comfortable stay.
The property is just as described. Clean and beautiful, but no frills. We enjoyed the mana moose and babies playing in the yard each evening. The walk to the beach was a little more difficult than we planned on with small children, but had we been more prepared it would have been fine. Bring water and bear spray, just in case. The walk is about 1.5 miles down (and back up) after you park.
Catkin was a wonderful host. Her home was warm and charming.. She was very helpful and accommodating. We had a great visit. I highly recommend her home.
Quiet, peaceful and beautiful!
The property was nicer than described. Catkin was an excellent host and was always available when we had any questions. The wildlife viewing on the property was spectacular. We saw a moose with a calf and another bull moose. There were sandhill cranes and the views are beyond compare. We will definitely stay at this property again.
Our stay at Caribou Meadows was perfect. The house was a perfect location, a few miles outside of Homer, with a beautiful view of the mountains. The number of rooms and beds was perfect for our family of 7. The kitchen is fully stocked with all that you will need. It was nice to be able to cook a few home cooked meals after eating out so much. We would definitely stay there again. Catkin was a wonderful host and very responsive to our needs.
This cabin had great views, and plenty of room for the whole family. Catkin came by and introduced herself, and answered any questions we had about the property. Overall, a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.
This is truly a unique and beautiful Alaska property. We loved hanging out in the backyard in the endless sun and eating breakfast at the great kitchen table watching for wildlife. We had 7 adults so one couple took the futon in the sitting area upstairs. Not ideal but we made it work! Catkin was extremely helpful and responsive to our needs. Would definitely stay here again!
