Steeped in history and maritime mystery, the house is a classic that hearkens back to the time of pilgrims and yeomen who built New England from its pristine wilderness and made America the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Could not have asked for a better space for grilling, eating, and catching up. It was wonderful!
We really enjoyed this historic home, the house is furnished in a tasteful eclectic style and is very comfortable, the access to beach is convenient and the homeowner has a really nice collection of books. It was an easy drive to Mystic Seaport and we had so much fun visiting local museums. Our host was very welcoming and accommodating.
charming historic property, ideal for large groups.
The house and property were very nice. We had ample room for everyone to eat together, and also had enough space so everyone had privacy. Lots of towels, beds were comfy and great location to town and beaches!
Once we determined a date we were done with the reunion early in the first week. I visited New Hampshire for the middle weekend and enjoyed vacation by myself for the balance of my stay.
The house was great, comfy beds, cute decor, had everything we needed - towels, blankets, utensils, enough rooms for quiet time and a huge living room for games and fun!
From our 2 month old to 80 year old family members, Yvette's magnificent and historic homestead was a wonderful setting for us. Beginning with her very engaged and helpful welcome to her thoughtful provision of kitchen, bath and beach amenities, comfortable beds, welcoming dining and living areas, and the beauty and serenity of her yard and gardens, we felt so at home. She is a host who attends to details in caring for her home and guests. A deep bow to Yvette for everything!
This home was very clean. There is a short walk to the local McDonald's. About a 10 minute ride to Saybrook inn, Stop & Shop, the railroad station, the diner, and so much more. The yard was large and included two full-size picnic tables, as well as a fire pit with hot chairs around it, and supplied firewood, the bedrooms, each had an air conditioning unit in the window and we're fairly comfortable. There were plenty of towels, dishes, pots and pans, and serving pieces if you are having a large group of people gather there. There is a charming garden room off of the living room area that was just beautiful . Although the house was not centrally air-conditioned, there are window air conditioners in each of the bedrooms. There were steep stairs going up to the second floor, ( this is an antique home after all) which would not have been suitable for people with a disability, however, a child gate was provided. The bathrooms were spacious and clean and there was plenty of hot water. A large screen TV in the Living Room and the Internet provided worked very well. I would definitely choose to stay at this lovely property again in the future.
This is a lovely house, perfect for a family event. We booked for my son's wedding weekend and were very comfortable. Love the sun room/breakfast room! Family friendly, nice yard for the children.
My family and I were in town for a wedding and this place accommodated us all perfectly. Clean, plenty of rooms, and lots of character. The private backyard was great for hanging out. We all enjoyed our time here!
We loved this house. So clean and great location.
The house is so charming and has everything you could need for a wonderful getaway. We enjoyed the fire pit and the yard. The living room and dining room were great for gathering. The beds were comfortable. Overall, a terrific place.
If you're looking for a great coastal New England weekend getaway, look no further. A group of four of us headed to Old Saybook over a gorgeous fall weekend. The Captain Nathaniel Clarke house is a cool historic house (and has a switchback stairway, too) on the equally historic Boston Post Road. Though it's a main road in town, we had no street noise. The house was spotless and had all the conveniences, including a very new washer/dryer pair. We took advantage of the firepit for our two cool fall evenings, and there was plenty of cordwood and kindling to keep it going. Along with the amenities in-house, there's a Starbucks, a good wine/liquor store, and very well-stocked natural foods market, all in walking distance. And whatever you do, DO NOT miss going to The Pursuit Of Pastry ( also, in walking distance offering sticky buns I'm still dreaming about) and if you love Italian, about a mile down Boston Post Road is Alforno--really good, reasonably priced, and absolutely packed on a Saturday night. We had a wonderful time together and this property helped make it so.
Very nice family visit.
My family and I stayed in this historic, beautiful house for 5 days and it was paradise. The house is great- It has all of the New England charm, all the amenities you could need, and very comfortable. Minutes from the beach, restaurants, shops etc. The host was responsive (within minutes) and was extremely helpful/accommodating. It really was the perfect place for us to enjoy our vacation. We are already planning to return as soon as we can. Thanks again for everything!!
I love historic properties, and this house is the quintessential New England farmhouse with wide plank wood floors and a very cozy feel. There are plenty of beds for a large group - 9 in total. The outside space is great for family gatherings. There are two large white picnic tables with umbrellas, a grill, and 8 Adirondack chairs around a fire pit. Wood is provided. There are also beach toys and chairs for the kids. Harvey's beach is right down the road, and the host provides parking passes. Go there at low tide for a unique beach experience. Hammonesset state park beach is also nearby. We really enjyed our stay and would stay again!
The house was very unique and had lots of rooms for our 2 families and our dog. Yvette was great communicating with us. The 2 nesrby beaches and beach passes provided were great. We had a lovely stay.
Loved the property. Very old home but lots of character. Worked very well of our family of 9.
What a charming house with so much character! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house - we were 3 families with young children all of whole loved the spacious backyard! Yvette was so easy to work with and made herself readily available to us throughout our entire stay. The location was perfect - we loved brining our children to Harvey’s beach especially which was so close. The house was also close to a grocery store, shopping, and a variety of dining options. The house was clean, the beds were comfortable, and lots of space for the adults to gather after the children were asleep. Thank you for a great stay, we will be back!
The house was comfortable and well equipped for our family gathering. The location is convenient to town but quiet. The owner was very accommodating and responsive.
This was the perfect backdrop to a lovely reunion.
