Stayed Jul 25, 2025Very nice stay for our staycation in Volcano. We had family visiting and needed a place that could hold all of us. We were pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was, and the kitchen is fully stocked. It was much nicer than the ad suggested.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Beautiful house very clean and nicely appointed kitchen as well. Beautiful property for a nice family vacation. Only minor complaint was the fire place control was not operating properly. But all in all a nice place!

Stayed Mar 22, 2024My friends and I enjoyed our stay at Hale Pau'ole overall. It is a beautiful home located in a gorgeous patch of forest. The birdsongs are so peaceful and the colorful Ohia trees really highlight the beauty of the Volcano region on Big Island. The interior of the home is welcoming and nicely decorated. The kitchen is fully equipped with what you would need to suit your cooking style. It even had a crock pot and a rice cooker, which is great when you want to prepare your own meals and still be out and about during the day. My only real problem with this rental is that the landlord watches guests via the surveillance cameras. The location of the cameras is disclosed to guests and they are listed as being used for security purposes. My understanding of this was that the security cameras would be used to protect guests from home invasion or robbery. However, the morning of our first full day at Hale Pau'ole, we received notification from the local rental manager (she was very kind and we enjoyed working with her) that the property owner saw via surveillance cameras that we had brought two ducklings onto the property and that they needed to be removed. (Duck sitting plans had fallen through and the owner of the ducklings failed to notice the no pets policy). We complied and promptly resolved the issue. However, we were left wondering when and how often we were being watched? The question also arose, who has access to the footage of us? What measures are being taken to protect our privacy? I understand that the home owner has a right to protect their property. I also think that the guests should have a right to privacy. This rental would be great for a family or older couple coming to the Volcano region to see the local sights. This would also be a nice place to escape if you are looking for a quiet place to get some writing done. I am not suggesting that you shouldn't stay here. It is a nice place to stay. Just, be informed that you will be watched.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The house is right next to the volcano. Very convenient if that’s what you want to do. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed for our stay. The house was very clean and had plenty of space room for our family. The only noticeable problem we had was that the fire alarm decided to go off twice at 5:30 AM. Woke us up and we couldn’t figure out what triggered it. The house had vaulted ceiling in the living room and the alarm was right next to the ceiling line so we could stop it manually either. Also, no Verizon service but they had WiFi (satellite , so super slow but works). Other than that - great.

Stayed Dec 22, 2022Although we had a problem with our booking at the beginning of our trip (an issue that was worked out by Vacasa but not without some negotiating), the house is wonderful and gave us the space we needed to have an amazing Christmas in Hawaii! The house is clean, spacious and in a gorgeous area. We are not resort people and try to stay away from the tourist areas, so this house was perfect. It is about 40-45 minutes from beaches and Hilo, but only 5 minutes from Volcano National Park, so just be prepared to drive a bit if you’re not there to hike the volcanos. I think the only things that the house was missing were beach towels (so be prepared to either pack your own or buy some) and cooking spray or oil. Other than that it has everything!

Stayed Oct 21, 2022This is a perfect home away from home for celebrating an anniversary. The house is immaculate, roomy, and comfortable with convenient covered parking and entry for one vehicle. The house is nestled in the dense vegetation of the rain forest, providing plenty of privacy. We absolutely love it here and are sorry to be leaving. This is our fourth time staying in Volcano. We love the cooler environment and quietness of this remote village. This is the best location for adventures in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It is easy to reach destinations along the coast north and south of Hilo, as well as beach parks along the southern coast. Even the far northern part of the island is accessible on a day trip. As noted in the listing, stock up on groceries in Kona or Hilo, as shopping is limited in Volcano. With a little planning, you will have a great time here and will not be disappointed. Mahalo to our hosts. Aloha for now.
