Niles, Michigan
One of a kind historic home in Niles, MI, just minutes to Notre Dame. Built in the 1850's, this striking home has tons of vintage charm, and still retains many original features including original moulding and doors, tall ceilings, hardwood floors and tall windows flooding the space with natural light. Modern features include in-floor radiant heat on the main floor, spacious sun room, and a large patio out back that opens to a huge private backyard, perfect for enjoying great summer weather.
This home is beautiful and large, with 3,500sf of living space to call your own. The main floor features floor to ceiling windows, an extra large living room, separate dining room, large kitchen, a separate study and a sunroom all on the main floor. Upstairs includes three large bedrooms (one king and two queen beds) and a smaller fourth bedroom with a twin bed. The main upstairs bath currently has a large jacuzzi tub perfect for unwinding and easing into vacation mode, there is a second full bath upstairs and a full bath on the main floor as well.
Our home is beautiful but it is almost 170 years old and has its old house 'quirks'. The home currently has central AC in part of the main floor, and portable AC units in the upstairs bedrooms. Unless the temps get up into the 90's it is comfortable throughout, but please keep this in mind when booking. It is in great condition overall but has not been recently updated, and we are in the process of making changes and updating over time, so please do not expect new house perfection from this one of a kind vintage beauty. If you are looking for a perfectly 'done' pristine space then this might not be the best fit for you.
We are constantly making changes and adjustments and work to keep photos updated as the space evolves. If you have any questions please reach out, we welcome open communication!
Full access to the entire main floor and second floor. Access to all four bedrooms upstairs and both bathrooms (one of the bathrooms upstairs is a little tight, but is a full bath with standing shower). Currently no access to the basement (we hope to have this ready as an additional socializing and game space soon).
The kitchen is large and is fully stocked with high quality All-Clad pots & pans, Smeg coffee maker and toaster and there is also a french press (with instructions - it's amazing, you should try it!) and other cookware that should meet all of your cooking needs. We did our best to supply everything you need to cook on a regular basis, but if you have specific questions about something being available please reach out. It is not really stocked for baking but we are working on that.
We put out towels for all guests and there are always extras available.
Bedrooms feature quality bedding including The Company Store quilts and comforters (in winter) and Brooklinen pillows. There are several different firmness options so feel free to switch them up if you have a strong preference!
This is a pet friendly home (in order to continue welcoming fur family members we ask the following: Please do be mindful, don't let your dog relieve themselves in the same spot every time and kill the grass, and pick up after them when they go (as opposed to leaving everything and doing one 'pick up lap' before you leave, as it's impossible to get everything) If they get sick or have an accident in the house just clean it up, and if there are other issues, be in communication with us), there are treats, dog bags and extra spare towels just for the fur babies available as well.
There is a brand new grill on the back patio and outdoor sectional and dining furniture as well.
We had a wonderful stay here. It had everything we needed and the host was very accommodating.
Very nice historic house. Owner was excellent! Immediately responsive to questions and extremely accommodating to any of our requests. Would stay again if/when in south-western MI!
We absolutely LOVED the house. There was plenty of room for everyone and the kitchen was great to cook in. We brought our 2 dogs and they loved the big back yard and exploring a big house. We would definitely stay here again!!!
Great spot for a wedding at the Morris Estate.
It was beautiful. The house is awesome and we will look to stay there again next time we come visit.
Loved our stay at the house!!! I am usually not one to rent an older house as I like modern amenities but I am so glad I did. The charm and historic quirks really made me appreciate the home. The house was extremely clean, well taken care of, had very comfortable beds, a beautiful large backyard and a lovely sitting area outside with a fire pit that made for a relaxing evening. Would absolutely stay here again if we find ourselves in Nile’s!
The property was in a great location for access to the Norte Dame campus. The house was clean and in a nice neighborhood. Kathy was wonderful to communicate with. We might just come back to it next year for another game.
We put a premium on the responsiveness of the owner and cleanliness--both 5 stars. Also we liked that the kitchen was well stocked since we cooked a couple of times. The owner was also pet friendly. We truly enjoyed our experience there.
