Starkville, Mississippi
Deerwood is a historic country estate nestled in 151 acres of gorgeous hardwood and pine forest. This idyllic and peaceful setting is perfect for a restful getaway or for lively family gatherings. Situated just 2.5 miles from downtown Starkville, Deerwood is also perfectly suited for Mississippi State University events.
This farm has been in our family since the 1960’s. My mother, an antique collector, lovingly gathered historic architectural pieces which contribute to the warm character of the home. Our family was raised here and made wonderful memories both in the house and on the stunning property.
Deerwood Farm sleeps up to 11 people in our 5 bedrooms. There are premium beds and linens - 2 king beds, 1 queen, 1 double bed, and 3 twin beds. Additionally, we have a great deal of space in our family rooms for any extra guests. We also have a couple of air mattresses available.
We invite you to enjoy our 2 lakes, 3 miles of wooded trails, grilling in the yard, and much more. Our deck and enclosed patio provide serene spaces to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. If you get a hankering for city life, simply head into downtown Starkville for shopping, live music, sporting events, and many wonderful dining options.
My group really enjoyed staying at this unique property. We are a group that travels to visit SEC football stadiums, and we stayed here for our visit to Mississippi State. First, this property has a great location - rural and remote, but relatively close to town. This allows for great privacy, but we could be to the stadium in 10 minutes. The property is huge, and I wish we had more time to explore it - truly beautiful. It is a large house - a farm house that has been built on over time. It is definitely an older property, but everything was in working order and was more than satisfactory. There is plenty of room and even though there were 10 of us, we never felt cramped. We loved the fire pit and being able to look at the stars. This property would be excellent both for larger groups like ours, but also for family reunions and events like that. My only note would be to be sure you drop a pin and/or make a note of the entrance if you're headed out at night - it can be a bit of a challenge to find in the dark. But, all in all, a great property we would absolutely visit again. If you are visiting Miss State, particularly with a large group, this property will serve you very well. Thanks for having us! -The True Blue Road Trip Crew
Everything was fantastic - all guests enjoyed your home and the privacy we all had. My Mississippi family will be calling you and my group will be planning for another future get together. Well balanced for kids and the location from the stadiums was even better than expected. Everyone enjoyed the history in pictures and books - impressive rooms. The ladies really were happy with your home and property. Highly recommended and we will be planning another visit. All you need is the right group of people. Outstanding owner communication.
Just what we were expecting. Plenty of room and no one around. Perfect.
Absolutely beautiful, very comfortable home and property with loving detail and history throughout. The owner was delightful, communicative, and responsive to our questions in preparing for our visit and stay. The fresh water lake and average provide a perfect setting to unwind, share laughs and make memories... we are already looking so forward to our next visit.
This is a beautiful setting. If you want space and the ability to enjoy nature, this is where you want to be. It was easy to communicate with the owner. The house is spacious and very well supplied. There is plenty of space for spreading out and also for gathering around a table or in a living area. If you want to venture into Starkville, it is an easy, short drive.
If you're looking for a quiet place to visit with family without a lot of distractions you can't beat Deerwood.
The host, Ellen, was very informative leading up to our stay. The experience was everything she had described and more. All the charms of country living, the antiques and the books were really special. Our group spent a lot of time on the back porch and around the firepit. The property with the trees and lake was just beautiful and we all agreed we'd stay at Deerwood again!
It was a pleasure to stay at Deerwood. It had everything we need including a wonderful deck that we unwound on almost every evening. There is plenty of room and very comfortable beds I highly recommend this home to anyone
