The Neighborhood:

One of the oldest neighborhoods in Louisville, Butchertown was established in the early 1800's when German and Irish immigrants settled in east Downtown Louisville along the original Beargrass Creek. While many professions were featured, many of the residents were butchers or somehow worked to support the butchering community. Over the years, Butchertown has seen its fair share of colorful historical events that include the major flood of 1937 and Bloody Monday riots of August 1855. Once a community that included both residential and industrial aspects, Butchertown had a sharp decline in its residential population after the 1937 flood. Now, however, the diverse community is seeing a rebirth and is a quickly growing segment of the downtown development. People are relocating to the area and renovating previously neglected grand buildings that date back over 100 years. Shopping, dining, nightlife, and art have found a strong foothold in the community as well.

Also, a great deal of literature on Butchertown and it's history can be found in local bookstores. The annual Butchertown Art Fair and Home Tour in the Spring and the well-known Oktoberfest in the Fall are staples of Louisville's event calendar.

My only complaint is parking. There is a couple businesses in the area that get a lot of traffic on the weekends and I had no place to park when i returned one evening. Other than that we loved it and had a great time there.

An extremely good value for 6 people. Clean and well kept. All three bedrooms are good sized with king beds. Upstairs bathroom is good sized, well stocked. The full bathroom downstairs is smaller, but adequate. Room arrangement is different than the photos. The downstairs bedroom is now where the front room/music parlor was. Parking was always available right in front of the house, though it’s a busy street and one needs to be careful exiting on the driver side. The hosts were very responsive to inquiries and bookings, communication was detailed about check in, check out, etc.Unfortunately, there are some things take into consideration when deciding to book here.3rd bathroom is right off the living room, small and crudely built. Built under the stairs, Can’t stand up straight in some of it, getting into the tub/shower is challenging. The shower is over a freestanding bathtub, with cable ties holding up the shower head to the shower curtain rod. Noise was a serious issue. There is a concrete/gravel yard around the corner up the street on Frankfurt Ave, on-ramp to highway 64 just past the house. On Thursday, the gigantic, loud gravel/cement trucks drove right in front of the house all night long. Less noisy in the back bedroom. Less truck traffic on Friday, and even less on Saturday and Sunday. Not sure if this is an ongoing problem, or short term due to construction projects.

I loved this property so much. I love old houses and this one delivered. It had just enough modern updates while keeping the original old house charm. It was clean and the location was perfect. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Louisville.

The accommodations were adequate but could be updated. The layout was definitely unique as it appeared that the owners made changes over the years throughout the house. The extra room that the house gave us allowed us to socialize and relax more easily. Bottom line, we enjoyed our stay and it served its purpose.

Good location and parking was easy. Only complaint is downstairs bed was not comfortable and made noise any time you moved in bed. Overall it was a good experience.
