Lake Placid, New York
Waterfront living at its best! Our BOAT ACCESS ONLY home is a five-bedroom traditional Adirondack camp situated on over 200 feet of waterfront on the west shore of Lake Placid. Perfectly situated in a cove near Gull Rock, Camp Blackhawk enjoys all day sun and spectacular water and mountain views. Relax in a cushioned steamer chair on one of the numerous decks or take in the views from a lounger on our large dock. The boathouse is newly constructed with a pool table in the upstairs space and a large wrap-around deck with plenty of seating and outstanding, unobstructed views. The spacious dock is perfect for both sun-worshippers and shade-seekers, featuring a covered area with a picnic table. Kayaks, paddle boards, a sunfish sailboat, tubes and a canoe provide hours of entertainment. Numerous hiking trails are accessible from the property. The main house of Camp Blackhawk sleeps 12 guests comfortably. The main house features five nicely appointed bedrooms, three and a half updated bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, laundry room and two wood-burning fireplaces. It is equipped with Starlink internet access, a DVD player, Apple TV, three televisions, and Sonos speakers. The large formal dining room seats 12 and an additional teak dining table with umbrella on the front porch comfortably seats 10. The screened porch is the perfect place to escape the sun while still enjoying the fresh air. An outdoor fire pit is the ideal setting for stargazing and s'more making after a day on the lake. We rent our camp only two weeks per year and are looking for guests who want a unique experience to escape, relax and explore pristine Lake Placid. The house is boat access only and just a 10-minute trip to the marina. Access to a slip in Paradox marina is included and our 24' pontoon boat is available for guest use for an additional fee. Boating experience required.
We have rented many properties in Lake Placid but this is by far our favorite. The camp is the perfect balance of Adirondack camp charm and modern luxuries. Each room is well-appointed with plenty of natural light. The furnishings are high-quality and comfortable and are coupled with all the charming items you'd expect - puzzles, books, games. But the most spectacular part of the Camp is its position on the lake and the way in which the Camp uses every vantage point to enjoy sunrises, sunsets, lake breezes, clear water, and of course, Whiteface. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the ease of dealing with the property owner. We highly recommend Camp Blackhawk.
Our extended family (6 adults and 3 children) just spent a memorable week here at Camp Blackhawk. We knew we wanted a tranquil and unique setting that would differ from July in Atlanta. We expected this house and the set-up to accommodate our groups needs. We hoped the scenery, hiking and water activities would keep us entertained and occupied. Repeatedly all our expectations were met and exceeded. This was an absolute dream of a vacation, one we feel lucky to have found! The Pences have clearly invested heavily in this Camp and have worked to restore all aspects of this property to its original (but appropriately updated and functional) condition. The care taken to fill the rooms with Adirondack style pieces was really impressive and contributed to feeling like we were taking a step back in time. The collection of coffee table books fueled our fascination with the history of Lake Placid and The Great Camps. Again, we felt so lucky to be guests at Camp Blackhawk experiencing this taste of life. Logistically, the boat in access was seamless. Everyone we encountered was more than helpful and incredibly inviting. We felt welcome at Lake Placid from day 1! The information provided by Caroline beforehand was more than sufficient. We spent countless hours at the Boat House and on the paddle boards. Our mid-July timing allowed for great outdoor water fun and cool enough evenings and nights to continue being outside. We tried Moose Lodge and the Lake Placid Lodge via boat and enjoyed both. The gardens/flowers at Moose Lodge would be a great backdrop for pictures! We cooked meals everyday and found the kitchen to be ready for all our needs with great serving choices to make a proper presentation. Our strategy was to bring as much as possible with us and I would recommend that for other guests. We didn’t leave the house a few days except to water activities! We would 100% come back for another vacation, if we don’t find our own Camp Blackhawk first!
Camp Blackhawk is fantastic. My family has been vacationing in the Lake Placid area several times a year since the 1970s. My husband and I have carried on the tradition and visit the area (from Florida) 3 or 4 times a year. We have stayed at several camps, including camps on Lake Placid and Mirror Lake, and in our opinion, Camp Blackhawk is the best. In the interest of time, I will focus this review on 3 areas: 1) my interaction with the homeowner; 2) the house; and 3) the fabulous boathouse. First, the homeowner gets 5 stars. She was very accessible and friendly prior to the rental. All of my inquiries (and there were several) were responded to timely, and in advance of the trip, she sent me an incredibly helpful information packet containing everything I needed to know to ensure a great vacation. Much appreciated. Second, the house is beautiful and in great condition with every detail on point (gorgeous views, very comfortable beds, nice linens, plush towels, well-stocked kitchen, spacious hang out areas, a variety of games, Netflix, great dining tables both inside and outside, beautiful bathrooms, ample closet space, etc.). Many rentals (even the pricey ones) will scrimp on things like the quality of sheets, towels, and glassware. Not Camp Blackhawk. Attention to detail was paid in every aspect, while the house itself still retains a rustic and outdoorsy type of charm that is very fitting for the area. Third, the boathouse was amazing (I am running out of hyperbolic adjectives to describe our experience). There are two large sitting areas, one on each floor, and each with ample outdoor furniture. Sitting outside on the dock around sunset was perhaps the most relaxing part of the day. The homeowners allowed us to use their kayaks, paddleboards, and canoe, and we also had access to a wide variety of tubes and water skis. The water itself is pristine and refreshing. We spent a lot of time swimming and otherwise on the water. And there is even a pool table in the upstairs area of the boathouse - it is in excellent condition. This was our first time staying in a boat access-only camp and we absolutely LOVED it. It was a very peaceful experience and contributed to me being able to relax more than I have in years (and years). We are already dreaming about a return trip! Thank you, Camp Blackhawk, for a very special vacation.
