Stayed Dec 31, 1969We had a delightful week at the Dundara's house by the coast and can highly recommend it. The house was spotlessly clean, simply but comfortably furnished, and well-placed out in the countryside a short drive from old Labin. It was very spacious for our small family (2 + little boy), and would be equally good for 2 families together. Romina and her family were very friendly and helpful, and essentially we felt like we were staying at our little private villa on the Istrian coast. We were very glad we didn't stay in Rabac, which was a bit tawdry. Instead we drove each morning 10 mins down the bumpy, gravelly coast road to a semi-secret pebble cove at Duga Luka (Prtlog), with just a couple of evening outings to mediaeval Labin and nearby restaurants. Most of the afternoons we were happy simply to stay at the house and enjoy the view from the patio, laze around or play with our son in the sandpit. Shopping can be done easily at the Billa supermarket in modern Labin, but more fun is to go to the locals' covered market (fresh fish, bread, cheeses...) around the corner from it. You'll need your car here, the house is genuinely a private country retreat. Oh, and you should like cats, as we do :) Having a small child, we didn't explore much, but the area around does seem to offer plenty for nature tourism, especially for cyclists and hikers. We got what we wanted, which was to get away from it all, and just live a simple life for a week by the sea. If, like us, you want to feel like you have an Istrian rural getaway, then the Dundara house is for you.
