Westport, Massachusetts
Location: Westport Point, South coast of Massachusetts, USA (20 minutes to Fall River, MA & 30 minutes to Providence, RI, one hour from Boston)
Accommodations: 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6-8)
If you want more room than a simple cottage provides - this is the place! This peaceful, 2000 square foot, three bedroom summer house with a spacious window seat and outdoor front porch over looking expansive hay fields sleeps up to seven people on 2 queen beds, 1 double bed, and 1 twin bed. It is located just a 5 min drive from Horseneck State Beach (public beach access, which stretches 5 miles along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean).
The house features a large 800 square foot living area with multiple seating areas for reading, playing games and visiting. In addition to the one full bathroom, there is an outdoor shower for use after a wonderful day at the beach. There is also a sunny, stone-walled garden for outdoor meals, reading, and relaxing. This great family house is the perfect respite from your busy world. It is available for rent for one(1) week, or for as many weeks as you are interested in throughout the summer season. Pets are not allowed and smoking is not permitted.
Our family most enjoyed starting the day with blueberry pancakes (from the local farm stand) on the front porch. Then we pack up for the beach - the energetic among us decide to jog there. We enjoy Horseneck Beach, rated best beach in New England, kids playing the surf, adults beach combing down to the harbor mouth. Snack bar for hot dogs or ice cream. Come home to wash off sand and salt in the outdoor shower before heading up the country road to Woods Creamery, the best ice cream around (Moose Tracks, our favorite!). Come back to the house, dinner on the porch, fresh fish caught that day, and watch the sunset over the field with the swallows swooping overhead. If it is Saturday night, the family heads down toward the Point for the community square dance, a tradition since the 1930's.
Westport Point is known for its local charm. No franchises are allowed in the region, but the area has many quaint shops and restaurants, and independent businesses support a local agricultural and beach community. Stop by the Westport River Winery for a tour, pick up fresh lobsters at the local fish store for dinner, go shelling on the beach, enjoy antiquing, or just relax on the porch of the house and enjoy the great summers for which Westport is known.
Fall River, Massachusetts is 20 minutes away, and is the home of hundreds of outlet stores, Battleship Cove and a working antique carousel. Newport, Rhode Island is 35 minutes by car. For a wonderful excursion, treat yourself to a day in Boston which is 60 miles north, or to Providence, Rhode Island which is 30 miles Northwest of Westport.
New Bedford is 25 minutes east. New Bedford hosts a waterfront area, a whaling museum and regular daytrip boats to take pedestrians or cyclists to Martha's Vineyard.
Westport is 60 miles from Boston, Massachusetts’s Logan Airport and 35 miles from T.F. Green Airport in Providence, Rhode Island. There is easy access to Westport from Connecticut, New York and other east coast areas.
We had a fun stay at the cottage. The location is great for going to the beaches and down to Westport point. The back porch overlooking the fields was our favorite spot. The view was so peaceful and we saw deer every night. The cottage is very rustic which we like. It didn’t have a tv but it was nice for the kids to unplug from screens for a week. My only suggestion would be to get some more comfortable beds. We ended sleeping on the futon in the living room because it was more comfortable than any of the beds. Overall we loved the cottage! Thanks for sharing!
We’ve rented this property before and love it. It’s got a great cabin vibe but with so many comfortable amenities (dishwasher, washer and dryer and WiFi). The property owners are easy to deal with and responsive. It’s in a great location on the main road near the point, but set back enough from the road to feel very private. We spent every day on the back porch in the rockers overlooking deer in the field or eating at the outdoor table. It was awesome!!
Rustic, charming house. Property is quiet, with beautiful fields, a comfortable porch and beautiful, historic homes lining the street. An absolutely gorgeous region. Wonderful location in Westport and close to Horseneck Beach, Demarest Lloyd State Park and some great restaurants (Bayside, Back Eddy). More action- playgrounds, restaurants and shops, an easy drive away in Padanaram Village. Would highly recommend for a quiet escape. A special spot.
Thanks very much for hosting us again. We had a wonderful time again this year!
Lovely meadow, porch and outdoor shower. Oven didn’t work which was just as well cuz it needed cleaning. Rangetop vent needs cleaning too. And it’s time to retire the lighter fluid in favor of a charcoal chimney.
This is a gorgeous, early 20th century farm house with old school ambience. The property is pastoral, breezy, peaceful. The covered porch is deep and inviting. Humming birds at the feeder, butterflies in the meadow, and bunnies in the garden. You get the picture. If you're looking for flat screens and central air this is not your groove. We loved it.
The property manager was very responsive and communicative. The property is well maintained, especially the gardens. This is very old home with an amazing history and lots of charm. If you are looking for relaxing place to rest and relax, away from the city hustle and bustle this is the place for you.
We had a lovely time at this beautiful property, which we used as a home base to participate in the Horseneck Half Marathon. We got lucky with the weather and so got to explore the beautiful surroundings while using this beautiful summer house as an idyllic home base. The light seemed to catch the field behind the house beautiful all times of day and the house was filled with personal charm and family history.
A wonderful place to pause the fast pace of daily life. We loved our weekend at Mary’s house. Meals on the porch were so peaceful. After the heat of the day, the evening breeze was lovely. The second night we sat and watched a young deer frolic in the back of the yard. The owners were very helpful and ready to help with any issues. We will return!
Such a lovely house! If you like old-fashioned charm, this is a wonderful rental. Lots of space and light, and everything is so cozy. Also a great location - really easy to get to the beach, town, and other area destinations. The kitchen is very well stocked if you want to cook. We loved having coffee on the back porch in the morning and enjoying the view of the meadow. And the wifi was great if you need to be connected. Would definitely rent again!
