Great vintage house, well-maintained and thoughtfully updated, with much character, charm, and space. We were very happy and comfortable and loved the quiet, unspoiled neighborhood of Barnegat Light. But the firehouse alarm next door did go off at least a couple of times every day while we were there (August). It is very loud.
The other reviews pretty much tell the story of this house so I don't have much to add that's new. I do want to emphasize, however, how lovely and welcoming the owners are. They couldn't have been more helpful. We had a wonderful time. We came to LBI attend a family celebration in nearby Barnegat. While we were on LBI we attended an event at the arts foundation, went to the beach, ate lots of seafood, had ice cream, shopped, played skeeball. The house accommodated two couples - one with a 3 yr. old and two singles. Lots of sleeping options and lots of things you might not remember to bringing already thoughtfully provided by the owners.
This is a charming 1920's beach cottage, centrally located in Barnegat Light, walking distance to just about everything you'd need and want to do. The homeowners were friendly and responsive. The house and kitchen were well-stocked, which was really helpful to not have to pack every spice, utensil, towel, etc.! During our stay, there were two storms that flooded the entire backyard for the majority of our time there. Over time the water did dissipate, but because of the layout of the home, it was challenging for family members staying on the 2nd floor because they could not use the outside entrance, but had to go in and out of the room where our 2 kids were napping/ sleeping. The flooding also brought a lot of yard debris around the patio area/ outdoor shower, which was messy with 7 adults/ children. And, our ability to eat outside and play in the backyard was limited to only a couple of days because of the standing water. Of course, this was not something the owner's could do anything about. Considerations for those with small children: the yard does have a partial fence, but it is not enclosed. As the home is right on Central Ave, vigilance with the littles was key. Also, as a '20's cottage, the stairs up to the 2nd floor were very steep and narrow, so this was a safety issue for us the entire stay. There are no baby gates (we forgot to bring ours), nor locks on the doors to keep the kids securely off the back stairs. There's also a set of concrete stairs off the kitchen/back room down to the table outside that were also a hazard (very narrow steps). Limited electrical outlets and A/C, although we were able to keep the house cool. The FD siren only went off once on our first day, so that was a non-issue - and the kids loved the chance to check-out the fire trucks and meet the fire folks on Sunday.
We had a great trip at this charming older beach house in LBI. The location is amazing, walking distance to the beach, restaurants, ice cream, and mini golf for the kids. The backyard was a great resource, we all hung outside on the grass and ate dinner every night out outside at the large table. It was a little challenging to keep the upstairs cool, and there were no outlets in one of the bedrooms, but this was a minor concern we worked around and understand it’s an older quirky home. The house feels like a home, with beautiful artwork, books, and homey decoration.
We truly enjoyed our week at your home & loved the artwork, the kitchen & back quiet room!!
Power went out due to storm. Otherwise great
Enjoyed our stay. Nice location and the house had everything we needed. We had a very hot, humid week so it was tough to keep the bedrooms cool. Owners were friendly and accommodating.
