Spring Mills, Pennsylvania
You are looking at a 170 year old church located in Spring Mills, PA about 30 minutes from State College, and within easy reach of Millheim and Lewisburg.
The space
This historic building is a former church built in 1848. Each morning light shines through the large, antique stained glass windows, as the sun rises over a spectacular view of the valley. This timber framed church is one of the oldest buildings in the area, and is a local landmark. It was was deconsecrated in 2000. I purchased the property in 2013, and began converting it into a home, and I am very pleased to be able to open the space to share with guests.
Inside the interiors are bright, open and contemporary. The church is comprised of a large open plan living/dining room and two bedrooms. Each private bedroom has a queen size bed and there is a lovely secluded sleeping area in the main space, there is a futon in the sitting area as well, so we can accommodate 8, and arrangements can easily be made for additional bed space.
There is a light filled full bathroom with shower and large clawfoot bathtub, the kitchen is fully equipped, the dining table can seat 10 (additional tables and seating are available upon request), and in the comfortable sitting area there is a large screen television with dvd player, and stereo system. I have lived in this space with my young daughter, and I consider it to be very kid friendly; the cardboard castle is usually quite popular!
The open floor plan is very flexible, and the arrangement can be modified to meet your needs.
There is a chimnea in the side yard under the shade of two lovely maple trees for fires.

A really fun place to stay and full of interesting things to look at. Definitely unique. Easy drive to the stadium. Would love to go back.
We came into town for Penn State football, it was a quick easy drive to campus. This converted church property was full of unique art, textiles, books and furniture. The decorating and out door space were just lovely and so interesting, the whole experience really got our imaginations going and our whole family loved it. It will live on in our memories forever. Thank you!
Very nice
Enjoyed staying at that place! Country-side, creative, inspiring… loved the outside fire place.
The property was exactly as listed- such a wonderfully different type of stay. There was plenty of room and the stained glass windows were gorgeous to look at while having coffee in the morning or winding down at night. We visited in June, but I'd imagine this would be amazing in the winter months with the stove and cozy atmosphere. Thanks to Mark for hosting us!
Very interesting eclectic place exactly as pictured. Grounds are beautiful. Great place when traveling with toddlers. Wide open space with kids kitchen and castle. Would benefit from a play yard or something of the dirt to put around pellet stove to prevent children from accessing stove when on. Also shower leaks to floor. If you’re looking for a 5 star experience this is nit the place for you but your looking for something different and to explore, this is it The owner is pleasant and helpful. Easy to deal with.
Very cool place with a working church bell!
This accommodated our entire staff quite well while were were in town for work. Thank you for for being great hosts!! : )
Fabulous time at the converted church and a peaceful stay. The neighbors are quite quiet. The serene setting and eclectic ambiance was a special treat.
Wonderful unique property! 30 minutes out to downtown Penn State. Owner very responsivness -with any concerns or questions. Loved the open space for our family. Worked well for us. If we could only control the weather haha.
Great weekend, great atmosphere, comfortable and warm stay. Easy access to PSU, more than enough room for all, Thank you again, GO PSU
The church rental was lovely and would recommend for families. Has all you need and more!
Rented this property primarily for the Penn State football game but stayed an extra night to enjoy all there is around there. Went bike riding and hiking nearby.
We were hardly in rental due to great weather but it was very clean and beds were comfortable. Much better than staying in a hotel! Thank you!
If you want pace and amenities of a city, this is not the place. But if you want a charming setting to unplug, excellent choice! Despite this being an old church, the upgraded bathroom was a welcomed luxury, and the modern appliances in the kitchen were also great. Made the stay perfectly comfortable. Place wasn't missing a thing for our group and purpose. Bonus: chilly nights when we stayed, so the wood burning heat was great! And, the owner is wonderfully responsive to everything. Great experience. Would go back for sure.
Great Place to stay with a family, Very quiet and Peaceful out in the beautiful Pennsylvania countryside, The Converted Church is really unique. Very Quaint decorations of MId-century Modern Art mixed with Americana antiques from 1800s & early 1900s. The Cemetery is cool. I walked around a read a lot of the head stones. The oldest one i saw was from the late 1700s. Amazing. Thank You
We had a great time! We were there for Penn State graduation and the place was perfect. A little out of the way but we loved it! Nice & quiet in the best possible way.
It was a good property lots of land and interesting but inside was old and rundown and had no ac. It got so hot in there during the day and hard to sleep at night. Bathroom was the hottest spot in the church and beds were not comfortable. Had to leave after searching for a place that allowed dogs and within our price range.
We had a amazing stay in this unique home. We loved every detail. Perfect place to stay while going back and forth to PSU. Looking forward to visiting again sometime.
We needed a place to stay for the weekend to visit PSU and really glad we found this place! The church is a cool and interesting place to stay and we really enjoyed our weekend there. It had everything we needed and it was a nice, easy drive to the college.
What a cool place, the church and all its artsy features was a great place to relax after running our girls to and from basketball games! Check in and out we’re easy, and the owner was available if we ran into issues. (Which we didn’t) The kids loved wondering around the cemetery to see the most historic date on tombstones. Now I can say when someone asks, have you ever slept in a church, yep!
