Stayed May 8, 2022This is a really nice property, but it’s got problems and I don’t feel it should have been offered in its current state. We’ve been staying in South Beach - mostly Sea Pines - for the last several years and this one was well, an expensive “bummer.” First, the pool/spa was a disaster. We selected this particular rental for its hot tub and paid an additional charge for pool heat. When we arrived Sunday night, the controller was dead, meaning there’s no way to turn the hot tub or pool lights on. We had driven several hours and wanted to enjoy our $1k/night rental’s advertised pool and hot tub but weren’t able. We spoke with the property manager Monday morning, and didn’t hear back all day until I called a second time. Now we’re 2 days in with no hot tub, no pool lights (none for entire pool area), and at this point the pool water we paid to heat started dropping in temp. That afternoon, I got a call from PM asking me for an update from the pool company. I didn’t know I was going to be responsible for interacting with pool contractors and giving updates back to the the PM. Not good. Wednesday, I have to call the property manager again and now I’m upset. I’ve got a house full of people, a cold pool my kids won’t get into, and a hot tub that has yet to work. A pool technician arrived and told us the controller had been installed incorrectly. I couldn’t believe it. Had the PM not checked to at least see that it had power?! How could that happen? We had pool heat and a working hot tub for one night: Wednesday. On Thursday the pool temp began dropping again and the hot tub couldn’t get above 97 degrees (my 2-year old gets 101 degree bath water). We checked out Friday morning and went home. The property manager, and the property itself, just weren’t ready. There were other signs like someone dropping off a propane tank for our hardpiped gas grill, a handwritten note in a closet full of half-installed electronics to leave the door open (with a 2 and 4 year old?!), a mysterious iPad mounted to the living room wall, dishwashing tablets provided for a dishwasher that doesn’t accept them, and more. Here’s what we liked: the elevator (great for my elderly mother), front porch swing, location (short walk to beach), crushed ice maker (little things matter!), and aside from a few minor gripes, the house itself is very nice with some luxury touches particularly in the master bathrooms.
