The Art House is a historic mill home formerly a part of the McMenamins St. Francis Hotel in downtown Bend Oregon. Due to expansion needs of the extremely popular McMenamins location this house needed to be moved to a new location to preserve its historical importance. The current owners committed to moving the structures (recycling) and relocating so that the public could continue to enjoy these special homes. After great effort by both the McMenamins franchise and the current owners the goal was achieved by successfully relocating.
The Art house still has much of its historic charm such as old style wood fireplace, antique doors, and sinks but was upgraded with modern appliances, a professionally designed kitchen, hot tub, Flat screen TVs, etc. Continuing with the recycling theme the decks were all built from reclaimed old growth redwood. The ceilings were paneled with local Ponderosa Pine that had been killed by pine beetles. These dead trees were milled locally into custom ceiling paneling. Decorative accents were made from reclaimed barn wood creating a warm, and rustic feel. Many of the McMenamins decorations and additions have been preserved as well maintaining the super fun and funky charm McMenamins hotels are known for. For the traveler with an eclectic appreciation of historical design and simplicity this is sure to please. Broaden your palate with something a little different, something unique and memorable. What great vacations are all about.
Dogs are allowed, but there is a 2 Pet Maximum. Please no puppies, cats or other animals.
We had a little family weekend at the Art House, and it was perfect. It's just as charming as in the pictures. :)
The online description of the home was quite accurate yet we were still surprised to see all the unique features of this home. Even though it is clearly a couple of old conjoined houses, everything is nicely put together and clean. We came with a large family group and had a fantastic time there. The dining room is centrally located, but kind of narrow. The two living rooms are on opposite ends and are both quite small, but very cozy and intimate. Great deck spaces front and back with a warm, clean and inviting hot tub. The BBQ works great. The only thing we would wish for would be a bigger common room where everyone could gather and not feel cramped.
It was as presented. An older historic home. Nothing fancy but had the bedroom space we needed. Living area a little crowded for small children to.play. We had to stay inside several times due to poor air quality (forest fire smoke). Kitchen could use some better cooking utensils. Extra table cloth to use since. table very rustic. The yard was too overgrown in the back for little.kids to play and adults to setup some yard games.
Peaceful
Really enjoyed our stay, cozy and comfy getaway!
Awesome house with plenty of room to sleep everyone. Very clean and well organized.
We enjoyed out stay, again, we've stayed here many times and it's an ideal location for us lake fishermen. Quiet neighborhood, and a very clean and well maintained house. Could not be happier with our stay.
They did a great job of incorporating these 2 old homes that use to be part of a catholic school and putting them together. The house was nicely decorated and the rooms were all named from the different fathers. The property was pretty large which was nice because we had a couple of dogs.
This is a great house for a group needing lots of bedrooms. We have rented it several times and always find it charming!
We had a great time, and will likely be back.
The house was great for our gathering and while the pool was a little gross by time of check in a maintenance person was already dispatched to clean out the tub for use during our stay. Would stay again!
My two sisters and their husbands (and s grown child each) along with my 86yo mom and her youngest brother and his wife (from Kansas) and of course me and my hubby spent a mini family reunion at this incredible house snd beautiful setting! The area allowed for us all to do the activities we wanted and the house was the perfect place to gather the end of the day snd share yummy meals, good conversation and get into the hot tub before crawling into bed. Loved the character of this home!!
Loved it :)
Attracted by the unique historical story and reasonable cost for the area.
Great property for getting together with family or friends. We had 11 in our group and plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the decks and hot tub
We enjoyed our stay very much! The house was large and comfortable with plenty of room for all of us to spread out or be together. The kids loved exploring the outdoors and seeing deer up close. We enjoyed the campfire very much too. It was a great place for us to stay.
We 4 senior fly fishermen thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Art House, again. We plan on returning next year. The coffee pot didn't work (or at least we couldn't get it to work) and it was replaced the next day. What service. Clean, well appoint house with a very well maintained hot tub in a quiet neighborhood, perfect!
I can not say enough good things about our stay in three rivers. This house (two bungalows combined) was so perfect for my bachelorette weekend. We were a group of 7 and each person slept comfortably in their own bed. The two kitchens really worked to our benefit with how much food and (ahem) beverages we brought. We spent morning on the side deck, basking in the sunshine. As well as the evening relaxing in the tub. The property is beautiful and feels very private despite a road being close by due to the beautifully wooded backyard. I would 100% stay here again!
