Kennebunkport, Maine
Under new ownership. Full interior re-design and re-decoration will be complete by summer 2024. Current photos do not include re-design.
This charming cozy historic century home built in 1921, was originally a boat builder’s home and is 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and located in a quiet upscale residential area a half mile from Kennebunkport's Dock Square. Within walking distance to Colony Beach (you can hear the ocean at night when you prop open the windows), Walker’s Point, the Marinas and downtown Dock Square, where there’s a great selection of quaint restaurants and shops. The house boost some wonderful historic features such as a wood burning fireplace, all original wood floors and a 2nd (back) stairwell to 2nd floor. There’s also a restored claw foot tub in one bathroom and all bedrooms and bathrooms have big windows with lots of natural light. The house was recently updated with central heat and AC. The backyard has a pathway leading to a pretty tidal cove where you can sit around the firepit in Adirondack chairs and catch some amazing sunsets. (There is also a new deck off the kitchen overlooking a large outdoor yard.)
The first floor has a 2 living rooms, one with a cozy fireplace and the other with a TV. There is a kitchen that opens up onto the deck and a separate dining area. The laundry is located on the first floor.
The second floor has all 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. The first bedroom has a king size bed, the second two twin beds, the third a full bed and the fourth a queen bed. Additionally, there are two new bikes, a rollaway cot, highchair, 4 beach chairs, beach bags and towels and 2 yoga mats.
The house was exactly what we were looking for for a family trip to celebrate my dads 70th. We had 6 adults and one 1.5 year old and we could not have been happier with the house. The layout worked perfectly with one bedroom towards the back of the house with a large closet that fit a pack and play with room to spare - they also had a pack and play available but I had brought our own and both actually fit in the closet. In two bedrooms we had only one adult in each room but they could have accommodated an additional adult or children in a pack and play. Given the layout you could easily close doors downstairs to help with noise while kids upstairs are sleeping, which we found really helpful. The house was a nice walk to town - 15 minutes max - with only a short portion of the walk not on a sidewalk. Check in process was super smooth and the host was very responsive to my notes prior to our visit. The house had all the amenities we needed for cooking. There is not a huge backyard, but we got out for activities during the day so we didn’t really care about that - it does have a nice porch for hanging outside. We were a short and easy drive from Goose Rocks Beach and bought a day parking pass for the one nice day we had at the beach. Yes, the house is older, but we all found it very charming, comfortable and clean. I highly recommend this property!
This home was perfect for our family trip. So much space for our everyone and lots of thoughtful touches. The home has been updated and seems as though they are continuing to update. We loved everything and would definitely return. Charlotte was so sweet and extremely accommodating!
Really enjoyed our stay here as a group of friends. The property was clean when we arrived, specifically the bed linens were very crisp and clean. Always nice to have a really clean and comfortable bed! The house is old and historic feeling. The location is in a really quiet part of Kport. A few items in the house were broken, but these did not have any impact on our stay. One of the two items we noticed was broken on arrival was the desk drawer which was missing a roller and thus couldn't sit in the channels to slide in and out of the desk in the living room. The other item was the towel bar to the right of the sink in the bath with the claw foot rub. The bar was loose on one end and a towel could not be hung from it. These did not have an impact on our stay but we felt the manager may want to know. Check in and check out were very easy! We really liked having the fireplace and being able to have a fire.
very comfortable
This is a great location, walking distance to the Colony Hotel, the Nonantum, and Dock Square. It's very spacious and well maintained for the most part. Beautiful wood floors; substantial furniture; charming original architectural touches. The wallpaper is beautiful. Washer and dryer on the premises that work very well. Same for the dishwasher. Plenty of parking out front, although a little trick to back directly out onto South Main Street, because the house is located on a curve and a hill, and that makes the view tricky. The area is wooded and so tends to be a little dark, and there is little if any overhead lighting in the house, which can make it a bit gloomy. The porch could be charming, but it tended to be wet and buggy during out stay, and I think could have used a cleaning (although I did not check closely). The kitchen is an odd layout, but we managed fine. As with most rental homes, it was not the best equipped in terms of pots/pans/trays/bowls, but again, we managed and had some delightful meals together. Most disappointing is that when we arrived, there was an air conditioner in only one of the four bedrooms. We only used 2 bedrooms, but we had to contact the propery manager who did respond, and told my friends that there was an extra ac unit in one of the bedroom closets. After cleaning the dusty, dirty unit, my friends had to install it themselves on one of the hottest days of the summer. That was a big snafu for us, especially the part about installing it ourselves. Sorry, folks - legends to the contrary, Maine is hot in August, and ac is not optional. Another issue is the lack of a grill. There really isn't a convenient place to put one, as the property isn't level. Down the hill in the back and out into a clearing that overlooks a marsh/pond, there is a charming seating area with a charcoal fire pit, but not a grill. While charming, it was too hot and buggy for us to enjoy while we were there. It's probably lovely in the fall! Finally, while I am being nit-picky, there are 2 bathrooms, but both are upstairs. The claw foot tub is the front bath is charming, but there is not really anything substantial to hold onto to get in and out, and there are no shelves for soap, shampoo, etc. The shower curtain is not overly effective at keeping water in the shower, which is too bad for those beautiful wood floors! These are more comments than complaints. The house overall is lovely and we had a great stay!
House was clean and comfortable for our group of 7. The location is fantastic. Walk to ocean, restaurants and shops. Charlotte was a great host. Good communication and quick to respond when we had a small issue. Great stay.
We had a great time at this very cool, characterful older Maine house. The bedrooms were great, and living rooms/ dining room was perfect for relaxing and family meals. Unfortunately their wifi was awesome so I didn't have an excuse not to check in with work (lol). Hosts were very responsive to a few minor issues that popped up and a pleasure to work with. Overall we had an amazing week here!
Easy access to all the restaurants in Dock square and all the area beaches. Had a great stay!
Nice size home in a prime location easy to walk to town, but also easy to avoid traffic. House was clean and comfortable.
