Black Mountain, North Carolina
Perched on a small side summit of Shumont Mountain, this property features unparalled views of Hickory Nut Gorge all the way to Mt. Mitchell. Even the pictures we have included here don't reflect the spectacular setting. On over 15 acres, Windsong allows you to enjoy the quiet solitude of the mountains, conveniently located just 10 minutes from many activities at Chimney Rock and Lake Lure Marina as well as 35 minutes from Asheville's many cultural attractions. **We require you have a 4WD or AWD vehicle to drive to the house.**
Built in 2000 and remodeled in 2015, this spot has been a special gathering place for our family, and we know you will want to return year after year to enjoy this mountain retreat.
On the main floor, you'll enter the dining area, featuring a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and cozy seating. The fully-stocked kitchen with stainless-steel appliances opens to the dining area so you can entertain while preparing your meals. The family room, and adjacent game room, are a perfect gathering place, complete with 65" flat screen TV. Curl up by the second fireplace and enjoy modern conveniences such as Netflix, wifi and DirectTV.
With a full-wall picture window looking out over all of Hickory Nut Gorge, the ground floor master bedroom suite boasts the best views of the property. Even the master bathroom has spectacular views over the gorge.
Along the entire length of the house is a covered porch with 180 degree views of the mountains.
Upstairs, you'll find two bedrooms with a full bath including bathtub/shower combination- one bedroom with a queen bed, the other with two twin beds.
The house includes full size washer and dryer.
This is our second visit to Windsong ... six years apart ... and we've vowed to not wait as long for our next visit. The home has everything you need and is very clean. The location is great and enabled us to embark on day trips to Asheville, Black Mountain, Dupont State Park, and nearby Chimney Rock Village and Lake Lure.
The property was well-kept and beautiful. My mom and I admired the artwork throughout the cabin. The views were spectacular. We spent a lot of time on the porch staring at the majestic mountains. I cannot say enough good things about our stay!
House and setting/views are incredibly stunning. This was our second stay (first during summer) and the place was just as wonderful as our initial visit. Was great to be able to enjoy all the nearby water-related activities this time. Hope to return someday! July 4th pro tip: if you’re interested in seeing fireworks, but don’t want to head into town to view them, plenty of displays can be seen all over the mountains just by sitting on the deck at dusk.
This is a great home with a great location and a wonderful owner. Very peaceful location with panoramic mountain views. Situated so you can easily visit Asheville, Hendersonville, chimney rock, lake lure, orchards and more…..or stay home and enjoy all the amenities of the home. Simply the best. I highly recommend it.
This was our second time staying at this property and this time we stayed for a whole month. This house is truly our happy place. Perfectly maintained and the views are unbeatable. Its a bit of a windy drive up the mountain from Asheville to get there but if you don't mind that sort of drive its well worth it every time you pull up the driveway. We will definitely be back here again and again.
We had a wonderful time at our mountain home vacation! The home was more beautiful than the pictures show, and had plenty of space for my 3 boys to spread out. We all were a fan of the gas fireplace next to the kitchen. It was a quick drive to Asheville, Chimney Rock, the Biltmore, and Hendersonville. We hiked the closest trail to the home (around 10 minutes drive, but very technical hike!) as well as Chimney Rock. Lots to see, good food options in main cities with the local restaurants and breweries. We were here in March, before “season”. We hope to return in the summer for all the water activities.
My Family & I loved the Home. Truly enjoyed the property. Husband & I had coffee every morning on the lounge chairs on the rocks enjoying the peacefulness of the gorgeous Mountain View’s. Who’s there was tvs in the upstairs bedrooms for the Teenagers. Other than that, would love to stay here again!
The owner was very prompt in responding to questions before and during our stay. Windsong is a beautiful home with better views than those we experienced on the Blue Ridge Parkway! As others have said, we spent a great deal of time on the porch admiring the scenery. It was a wonderful relaxing vacation. My personal planning tips: *We were very cautious driving the curvy roads so it took us (3 women over 60) 30 minutes to get to town. *The owners provided 6 sets of towels so you may want to pack extra. *Put ice on your grocery list.
Another vote from me that the photo's on the website don't do this property justice. This is one of the nicest properties we have ever rented. The views from the porch are spectacular. The property is secluded enough to give you a sense of being isolated, but still convenient to everything you need. The furnishings were tasteful and very comfortable. Thank you for sharing you home with us!!
We were looking for a property that wasn’t too close to town that would give us private time and this fit the bill. It’s in a good location to get to various places but also isolated enough that you feel like no one is around you. House was well appointed and provided everything needed for a relaxing week with the family.
