Pebble Beach, California
Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present "Serenity in the Woods"! Sleeps up to 6 guests.
A wood-pole-construction home becomes one with the sky and native pine forest in Pebble Beach®, surrounded by greenbelt in a tranquil setting, and is furnished `and available as a vacation rental.
The 3-bedroom, 3-bath cabin-like home designed by architect David Allen Smith has been featured in architectural books, Sunset Magazine, and the L.A. Times, and features floor-to-ceiling south-facing windows and skylights that face the Pebble Beach® forest and allow generous amounts of natural light to flow through the entire house.
Built in 1971, the 2,068-square-foot split-level home is designed to bring the outdoors inside, with decks off the main living area and the primary suite, the perfect spots to enjoy sunsets and starlight. The home incorporates both mid-century modernist styling and a rustic feel with its unique design featuring wood planks and poles.
The home in the exclusive gated community of Pebble Beach® is perfect for a couple or a family, with vaulted ceilings, a wood-burning fireplace, open floor plan and hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining area and living room, and cozy bedrooms with built-in storage space.
Despite the feeling of being away from it all, it’s just a few minutes by car from the best that Pebble Beach® has to offer in dining, shopping, golf and other recreational activities. It’s just 10 minutes by car to downtown Carmel, historic Pacific Grove, or popular attractions such as Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
The home offers a carport on the street level with a convenient entryway, making it easy to bring in groceries and other items. There is parking for two small vehicles in the carport and additional parking on the street.
Living Spaces
The living room features a wood-burning fireplace with gas start that is surrounded by comfortable seats, an ideal setting for conversation, board games or reading a good book.
Kitchen and Dining
The galley-style kitchen has a distinct mid-century vibe and offers a Sub-Zero refrigerator, a combination microwave-convection oven, and a four-burner gas cooktop, in addition to custom-made wooden cabinetry, solid surface countertops and a double sink with a pull-out faucet.
An adjacent dining area has seating for five around a wooden table adjacent to the wall of windows that looks out among the trees. A long built-in buffet provides ample space for a bar area or for buffet-style meals. The deck also provides additional space for entertaining or enjoying the view.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms
All the bedrooms also have expansive views of the nearby forest through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Bedroom #1 is located on the main/lower level and includes a king bed with wooden headboard, a private deck, an en suite bath with shower and built-in storage space.
Bedroom #2, also on the main level, has two extra long twin beds that can, alternatively, become a split king with foam topper as needed and an en suite full bathroom.
Bedroom #3, upstairs, has a queen bed and is next to the full hallway bath which has a combination tub/shower and pedestal sink.
Also upstairs in a lofty mezzanine area is the media room with cozy seating, small library, queen sofabed, and HDTV. This space cantilevers over the lower living room space and has low, open walls that look down on the rooms below.
A stacked washer-dryer unit is located in a closet on the upper level.
There is also an exterior entrance from the upper level that exits onto the carport area.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum.

We enjoyed this tree house like home in the Del Monte Forest with it's large deck and serene forest view just a short drive to Carmel and within the beautiful 17 mile drive boundaries. With all the large windows and tree views we felt surrounded by nature even when indoors. Enjoying the cozy fireplace at night after dinner was another pleasure.
Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great place to relax. Neighbor seemed to use trash cans and there was no space for our garbage from the weekend. We had to pack our trash and take it home to throw away. I mentioned this to management twice via text and once on a call. I was told someone would be by to make space in the outside dumpster, but no one stopped by.
The amount of windows facing the forest in back made me feel like I was staying in a tree house.
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Every year we rent a Sanctuary Vacation home in November to celebrate our Family Holiday as we live on opposite coasts. This house suited us well. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, and the setting beautiful. Proximity to everything in Carmel and Monterey just a few minutes drive. This house is a preserved 1970s mid-modern gem with a Soleri bell hanging in the foyer! Expect this house to reflect the era. The only issue is that the deck of this house is not child or pet friendly (the railing is not to code and it is well above the ground). If young children or pets are part of your entourage, you may need a different property.
The treehouse is a great place for a getaway. Beautiful setting amongst the trees. Soaring ceilings and glass. Nicely appointed. Close to Highway 1 and near the 17 mile drive. Easy access and close to all the major area attractions.
I stayed here for four nights with my wife, my sister, and a friend. So four adults in three bedrooms. Everything was great - beds, linen, appliances, and other amenities all thoughtfully provisioned. The living space is just magnificent - ceiling high windows, skylights, lighting, comfortable and spacious. This was a very relaxing place to hang out with family and friends.
Very good.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This charming home captivates you with timeless architectural features like soaring volumes and hand-crafted redwood panels. Though built more than five decades ago, the feel is contemporary and comforting. The owners offer experienced guidance about living in their home often making use of small, tastefully framed information, for instance, about internet access. Plus, VRBO is there to respond quickly to issues that need fixing (e.g. light switch not working).
Serenity in the Woods is an apt name for this property. It has the feel of an upscale cabin in the woods with a wonderful view of the surrounding trees. It is very private and quiet with enough amenities to make it very comfortable. The floor to ceiling windows make this home very bright. The location is perfect if you want to enjoy both Monterey and Carmel. My family loved this house. We had one or two issues that were rapidly addressed by the management staff. If you are looking for a quiet place in the Pebble Beach area this is a great option.
Will come again
Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed at Serenity in the Woods for the entire month of March. Everywhere you were in the house was like being outside with the comforts of inside. The entire south wall is made of glass panels as you can see from the pictures. The kitchen had everything you could want (there are many cabinets, so if you don't find something, keep looking). The oven is an unfamiliar brand (I think European), but works well. I did have to look up instructions on how to use it on the internet. The beds and furniture were comfortable. Sanctuary Vacation Rentals was prompt at responding to any requests. The location is ideal; half-way between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey, close to Highway 1, and next to Pebble Beach with easy and free access to 17 Mile Dr. There was a lot of places to visit and to hike nearby. We went to the Monterey Aquarium, visited Carmel Valley, and hiked Point Lobos and Big Sur, among other things. The place was clean. The only downside were the March rains which were unusually heavy this year.
