The Flounder Inn is a secluded Gulf-side, waterfront location with beautiful sunset views and a private dock. Charmingly rustic, this family cabin sleeps eight people comfortably. Pine wood floors, cypress walls, and high ceilings welcome visitors to this warm and inviting vacation home. An open plan with plenty of seating with all the necessities including a wood stove (firewood can be purchased locally), rounds out this unique and cozy cabin by the sea. Explore the gulf with our 3 complementary kayaks.

Flounder Inn is located on the far northwestern edge of the island of Cedar Key, Florida, on a private, peaceful lot just 2.5 miles from downtown.

Flounder Inn offers a king size bed in the master bedroom located on the main floor along with a full bath and queen size sleeper sofa. Upstairs are two guest rooms and a half bath. One room has two twin beds and the other has a queen size bed. There is also a large wire pet kennel, and dog bed, bowls and toys for your furry friend. You’ll find Dish Network TV; plenty of games and puzzles and at your front door awaits a world to enjoy. The dock located on a short canal leading to the open Gulf is perfect for kayaking (3 kayaks are available for your use), crabbing, fishing, bird-watching, and cast netting for mullet. At high tide you`ll see and hear mullet jump from the water as the osprey and cranes hunt in the canal. Ocean tides, constantly in motion, are nowhere more obvious than at Flounder Inn. From high tide to low and every stage in between, the scene is always changing. Flounder Inn has a screened porch and an open deck, overlooking the water with a western view of the open Gulf and those colorful sunsets.
The cabin itself is like a photo page torn from an old magazine. It`s a family history, a novel written over time. The characters in the story are family members and friends who, over the years, built Flounder Inn with their own hands; bringing materials from their homes in Gainesville working all weekend and then doing it all again the next weekend until completed. Flounder Inn has changed little over the years except for the obvious modern additions of central heat and air, cell-service booster, and a smart TV with Dish network satellite hook-up. Be prepared to use your own data plan, as Flounder Inn has no Wi-Fi. Who knows, you may find your group enjoying a little less `screen time` and a little more `island time`. The maritime environment surrounding Flounder Inn and Cedar Key is a treasure map of things to see, do, and learn. The water, the tides, the mud flats, museums, Indian Mounds, abundant sea life, and sand bars are all waiting for your discovery. With signed releases, there are kayaks available for your use. Launch directly from the dock using the Kaya-arm for stability.
Parking at Flounder Inn is adequate, two cars may park under the cabin, and three will fit in the yard. If you are bringing a boat, please understand, there is limited space for boat parking and maneuvering. It is not advisable to bring large boats and trailers, due to the space and configuration of the parking area.
BE ADVISED: Parking is on Flounder Inn property only; there is NO overflow parking available.
Choose Flounder Inn for your next visit to Cedar Key. Launch your boat at the city marina or at Shell Mound Park and bring it around to the Flounder Inn dock. Be aware the extreme tidal changes mean there will be times you`ll not be able to take your boat out from the dock or bring it into the dock. When the tides are right, Flounder Inn offers easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and all that it has to offer. Bring your bicycles, rent a golf cart, use the kayaks and enjoy fresh seafood, cool drinks, and live music at local restaurants. Close out the day watching the sun set over the Gulf from the open deck of Flounder Inn. You may feel as though you are floundering in your home life, so BOOK NOW and re-set at a perfect stress relief location...Flounder Inn.
*We have a pack & play available, if you would like to use it during your stay please let us know at least at the time of booking.

*If you are visiting the island to boat and/or fish we recommend you check out the NOAA charts. Cedar Key is surrounded by shallow waters and this can make boating/fishing during low and changing tides difficult or impossible depending on where you are and where you want to go. You can search NOAA chart 11408 online to check the water depth and search NOAA tide predictions at Cedar Key FL for tide information.

We had an amazing time on the property! Host was fantastic! Clean and perfect for our dog. Would definitely come back - but will avoid the negative tides during the winter! Love this side of the island!

The house had bats living in the walls. The management company was very responsive, tried to find us alternative accommodations, and refunded us our entire fee. However, they admitted that they knew about the bats and did not disclose that when we booked, and we lost an entire day of our vacation. We ended up finding a bigger, cleaner place without bats at a cheaper rate from a different management company elsewhere on the island.

Loved the house. It’s quite functional and comfortable. Not fancy but definitely fabulous. Sunsets were great. We saw a lot of birds. The pink spoonbills were out every afternoon. We will surely return.

The place was dirty, dingy, and depressing. There was a big hole in bathroom door. They said it was from the hurricane. I dont think so. The BBQ outside that we planned on cooking on was rusted out and not iusable. It was listed as two bathrooms, and there was 1 and 1/2.The one side of patio door would not lock. I could open from outside. We called McCormick (the company in charge to tell them we wont be staying there and wanted money back. They said well, its not fancy. Its a fishing cabin It did not say that anywhere in the listing. If it did, I would not have booked it. Had not intention on fishing. They said we had to contact VRBO for that. I always thought going through VRBO I was sure it would be checked out. I dont trust VRBO anymore. Really messed up our Christmas trip.

We just stayed at the most charming beachfront property in Cedar Key, and it was a dream come true! From sipping coffee on the porch while watching dolphins play to falling asleep to the soothing sound of waves, every moment was magical. The décor was cozy, the views were breathtaking, and the sunset? Absolutely unforgettable. If you're looking for a slice of coastal heaven, this is the place to be! Can't wait to come back!

We had a great stay at the Flounder Inn. The property was a nice, quiet location that met our needs and had excellent amenities, including a well-stocked kitchen and the use of complimentary kayaks. Cedar Key Museum was around the corner, and there was a multi-species parade in the cove out back of the property every evening at low tide. The property managers were available and concerned without being overbearing. Just the right blend of checking in and giving us space. A couple of recommendations: 1) consider renting a golf cart, as the property is a couple of miles from most restaurants and shops. We used Cedar Key Adventures, and they were reasonable and readily available. 2) Be aware that the tides will greatly impact your ability to get in and out of the property via kayak. You will want to time your outings nearer to high tide, to ensure enough water. 3) Check out Cedar Keyhole Artists Co-op for an eclectic selection of art by local and regional artists. 4) The short drive to the Fanning Springs and Manatee Springs State Parks, to the Chiefland farmer's flea market, and to Old Hickory bakery were worth the time.
