## Emplacement
Le Cannet-des-Maures is unique in that it is split between the old Cannet, perched on a hilltop, and the modern, commercial village below, set around a park of hundred-year-old cedars.
This split dates back to August 8, 1903, when a presidential decree stipulated that the administrative center of the commune of Le Cannet-du-Luc was to be transferred to the railway station district, where the commune's economic activity at the time was concentrated: a center for transporting bauxite ore and raising silkworms.
Old Cannet, the ancient castrum of Caneto, is thought to have been founded in the 9th century following the ruin of Forum Voconii, a settlement on the plain along the Aurelian Way. Stroll along its old, flower-filled streets. The church of St. Michel, built in 1027, lends the village an incomparable charm, all the more so as its inhabitants cultivate the art of a warm welcome.
The village also boasts a significant natural heritage. Take a stroll in the Maures plain, with its exceptionally rich flora and fauna.
Like Yves Paccalet, the writer and hiker, you'll feel like you're strolling through an African savannah.
