Shawnee, Kansas
Established May 11, 1891 by William Renner, this rustic home sits on 16 acres right off the freeway and neighboring the most visited park in Kansas, Shawnee Mission Park. The home has strong bones with recent renovations to keep its character, but upgrade many of its features. It’s a unique opportunity to stay in an environment that is still standing from when the settlers were headed west via the Santa Fe Trail.
2 bedroom, 2 bath, open floor plan with large front yard. Single story, but there are a few steps up the front deck to front door and two steps down into screened in back porch. Sits on multiple acres with a few other structures. There is a shared driveway with a small other rental (tiny home) in the vicinity. If you are interested in booking both properties please let us know. Free parking, fenced side yard and large open front yard. Pets welcomed. Free wifi, large smart tv. Perfect for families.
Private, safe, and quiet! Although at the time of booking i only needed a place to stay with my family for one night i decided to pay a little more for this cottage than for hotel rooms and my only regret is not booking this cottage for the entire weekend! It is very quiet, secluded and spacious with all the amenities from home. My family and i absolutely loved staying here and wont hesitate to book in the future for more than one day next time.
This little cottage is a gem! Weather wasn’t that great but the coziness of the house was more than what our little family needed
Great location if you like room and privacy but fairly close to town. Great for pets and kids with large yard, nice country feel no glam but nice cozy home.
Property was as described, was great for traveling with our dog. Enjoyed the secluded location, yet very near attractions. Worked really well for our family. Hosts were very responsive. Would stay here again!
As always, our stay was enjoyable and without any troubles. Thank you!
First, we would rent this place again in a heartbeat. It was very clean and tidy when we arrived. Everything is just a short drive from the property - grocery, liquor store, restaurants, target, walmart, etc etc etc. But the best part about this location is Shawnee Mission Park. Miles and miles of trails to walk and bike. Picinic areas, fishing, playgrounds, frisbee golf, and an outdoor theater are all available within this park. What we liked most about this rental was how cozy and comfortable it was. We have stayed in many VRBO's that look nice in the photographs, but were not very comfortable to live in, Be aware, as the owners indicate, that this is an old house. Old houses are kind of quirky and do not have the newly renovated feel. But we loved it and enjoyed our stay thoroughly, We will be visiting Kansas again, and this will be our first choice for a place to stay.
My husband, myself, and our 8 1/2 year old pit bull stayed at Andrew & Kelsey's home for a long weekend while we were in town for the Eagles vs Chiefs NFL game. The home was perfect for our needs. We enjoy a bit of privacy and this home afforded us the peace and quiet we desired, while being located close enough to the city that the drive wasn't bothersome at all. The inside of the house was very roomy, with a large sectional for lounging, and a very comfortable king sized bed that we all had plenty of room in. The small fenced in side yard was very convenient for quick potty sessions for our dog, and we were also able to take a couple of extended walks over to Shawnee Park next to the property for exercise and sniffs! We appreciate the owner's making this property available to us, as it was perfect for our little family. If we are ever in the area again, we plan on staying here!
We all had a wonderful time. The house was clean and the kids loved playing in the large front yard. It was close to everything we did while there. We would stay here again.
Communication was great, location was great, felt very secluded but very near all the restaurants and amenities that we wanted.
Good sized bedrooms and clean bathrooms. Spacious living area with a couch big enough for all of us. Nice to have the Kuerig machine there.
We enjoyed our stay, and the cottage is always well supplied with towels, wash cloths, comfortable bedding, and kitchen supplies like Keurig cups, coffee mugs, glasses, and dishes. It is conveniently located to our family, baseball fields, shopping, and restaurants, yet has a rural feel with being on the edge of town with lots of trees.
The property was very nice and communication with owners was great.
We stayed at this great property while visiting family in Lenexa. The location was perfect with easy access to the KC metro area. The house was well equipped and very comfortable. The hosts were wonderful to work with and super responsive. The yard has a fenced in area as well as a huge open grass space for pets to get some exercise. This will be our go to spot for future family visits to Lenexa. We couldn’t be happier!
Exactly what we needed! Four sisters in our late 50’s. We just wanted to have a weekend by ourselves. The house was exactly as listed. Very clean, very comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, great toilet paper, and quiet (except for highway noise). The highway noise was noticeable outside but you couldn’t hear it inside. Excellent communication from hosts!!! I would definitely stay there again!
A beautiful historic home tucked away but only minutes from the city. We enjoyed cozying up by the fireplace while the doggos enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels on the front porch.
The host is mindful of what you may need. It has en entire spice rack!! It's an older property, but it is clean and roomy. The beds were not the best, but we still slept well. Property is huge! We hope to return!
House was great. The property manager was not the easiest to work with.
Nice place to stay for a family! Thanks for the hospitality, just wish we could have stayed longer, hopefully next time
This place was perfect. Our family of 5 had a wonderful time staying here and we loved that we could bring our dog, who is also a service animal, without additional charges. The home was located about 20 minutes to Union Station, the WWI museum, and Crown Center. We enjoyed a Royal’s baseball game (30 minutes away), a day at the Springs Water Park, and a quick 1.5 hours to Nebraska for lunch. We were able to make it to our 31st state with our boys. The home had all of the necessities needed to cook. We ate all dinners at the home and enjoyed our lunches out and about. A couple of the lunches included Fritz and Joe’s Kansas City Barbecue. Both were very good. We had an opportunity to visit a few of the fountains that Kansas City has to offer. We were concerned about the highway located near the home and then found out construction was occurring as well. You COULD NOT hear the traffic nor the construction work that occurred one night through the night. Once you are inside it is as quiet as a cabin in the woods. Unless you have 3 boys with you like we did. There are no neighbors to bother, so that was a plus. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of sitting space to eat, watch television and to play games. If you book this home, you will not be disappointed. Close enough to visit the city, without the crowds and noise the city has to offer. Oh, and ifly was a big hit for our family. Once we finish the last 19 states (5 more years), it is possible that we willing return to KC. If we do, we know where to stay!
Lovely property, we were there only a few hours to sleep as we were traveling across country for a move. I wish we would have had more time to stay and enjoy.
